About Mrs. Lox

Paved with Good Intentions

January 13th, 2011 @ 1:07 pm by Mrs. Lox

Let’s get real here. I’ve yapped a little about how I’m going to DIY some details for our big day. And so far, I’ve shown you my flower balls. (Seriously, could no one come up with a better name?) But that is not the only craft in progress here at Chez Lox. Nor is it the only craft on my list. So today I decided to take inventory of what I intend to do. And for some reason, every time I take inventory of something, it means a spreadsheet. Don’t ask; it’s a sickness. Just wait until we talk about dress shopping…

Paved with Good Intentions : wedding baltimore diy resources Lox1 lox1

It looks so sweet and innocent here…

It’s deceptive. That spreadsheet makes it look so sweet and innocent. Harmless even. And yet, for a person who readily admits to being un-crafty, that is an imposing list indeed. In case you can’t see it (or don’t feel like clicking through) here is my lovely list of projects, in no particular order:

  1. Tissue-Paper Pomanders
  2. Flower Balls
  3. Mini Paper Lanterns
  4. Large Tissue Poms
  5. Program Fans
  6. Escort Cards
  7. Cake-Table Banner
  8. Sweetheart-Table Decorations
  9. Water bottles
  10. OOT Bags
  11. Children’s Activities
  12. Fauxtobooth
  13. Fauxtobooth Sign
  14. Guestbook Paper
  15. Guestbook Sign
  16. STD Envelopes
  17. Bar Sign
  18. Gazebo Decorations
  19. Flowers for Mothers

That’s the first time I’ve numbered it like that. Oooof.

Anyway, now you have an inventory of my intentions. Here’s hoping you stick around to see how I make out at the finish line!

What DIY projects did you take on? Did you finish what you set out to do, or are you scrapping some as the big day approaches?

I finally had to do a spreadsheet for the “day of schedule” and I wanted to poke my eyes out! I can’t imagine doing a spreadsheet for everything. It hurts my brain to even think about it! :-)

You sound just like me! :)

I wanted to DIY soo many things and while I didn’t technically DIY them…I had a few items made by Etsy artists for my wedding.

One of them is the caketopper (as I mentioned in your other post). Another item I had done by an Etsy artist are beaded cabochon pins for the MOB, MOG and Groom’s G-ma. :) Also had some beaded tulips made to go w. my bouquet (and one added to my MOH sis’s bouquet).

I made my STDs from scratch - loose CS fm. Michaels, rubber stamp, paper punch, etc.

Also going to make my own invitations and TYs.

(Why I didn’t do semi-homemade…I don’t know.)

Anyway…I would like to also work on doing
-escort cards
-centerpieces (with some flowers and that will be the help of the florist), otherwise, I purchased the centerpiece items myself.
-perhaps do table # luminaries
-work on getting pics. together to display of my FI and I for cocktail hr/reception
-be involved in how my lil cake and cupcakes come out (even if I’m not baking them myself)
-hope I can put it together (may not happen)
is to have tux t-shirts made for my FH and his 3 GM’s…for part of the reception (as they are sooo not the dress up type of guys..haha.)

Some ideas that didn’t make it…
-making a cardbox *tho FMIL decided to go ahead and make a treasure chest cardbox herself for our wedding (she’s also our officiant) :)
-figuring out a signature mat for guestbook *tho FMIL also took that upon herself to get for us.

-I initially wanted to have votive escort cards…but not sure that’s going to happen :(

There are so many other ideas that I wanted too….b/c after seeing them on WB and other blogs I was inlove w. them but $ was one reason why some of these ideas aren’t/may not happen….:(

(oops..sorry for the rant…)
Anyway..
Have fun with your DIYing though! :) Tho it’s work, it is fun to personalize your wedding..isn’t it!? :)

Your flower balls comment made me LOL at work. Yes, I am five years old. ;) You can do it, Lox! We’ve tried to break our list down into manageable pieces (I would sometimes hyperventilate when I saw the master list) and delegate, delegate, delegate.

There is no other way to do it! Though I am also a compulsive organizer and spreadsheeter, even post-wedding.

I personally prefer “flower balls” over pomanders, solely for the giggle factor ;)

OMG, now that it’s on the bee you have to do it. Sorry to tell you :) I feel SO GUILTY about half the things I said I’d do. Where the hell were my 1,000 paper cranes I tell ya? Very good motivation posting it here!

Cant pick a date (message)  165 posts, Blushing bee

Good Luck!

I have all kinds of ideas for DIYs but have nothing concrete (although I picked my date I have not picked my venue) so everything is on hold.

Plus I have a severe lack of storage at home.
