I say "wicked" and "y’all" in the same sentence and I like to drink sweet tea with my lobster. Mr. Lion and I are both former Floridians now living in Atlanta, which fortunately is still SEC country...Go Gators! We both love baseball, coffee, traveling, cooking, and playing Words with Friends with each other on our iPhones all day long. I’m very passionate about the things and the people I love, and I tend to plan things with all of my heart...our wedding, of course, is no different! Oh, and also Mr. Lion is a first generation American of Cuban descent. I may look more like Lucy than Ricky, but I’m doing my best to incorporate some Latin elements into our vintage-garden-Southern wedding!

Lioness Invitations: The Secret

January 13th, 2011 @ 2:18 pm by Mrs. Lioness

Mrs. Hamster recently explained the importance of numbering your response cards. Apparently it’s quite common for guests to send in their RSVP and simply forget to put their name on it. I’m sure we will have our fair share of RSVP errors, so if there’s something we can do on our end to minimize the number of mishaps, I’m all for it! I am definitely in favor of a little extra work to save my sanity in the long run. Basically, I’m just trying to prevent this kind of a situation:

The solution:

invisible ink. As Mrs. Cherry Blossom, Mrs. Socks, and Mrs. Sewing have previously discussed, this stuff is brilliant! I found a set of two invisible ink pens on eBay for $2.00. Each pen has a marker tip on one end and a little black light on the other. We simply assigned each household a number on our guest list spreadsheet, then wrote the corresponding number on the back of each response card. Invisible to the naked eye, yet very helpful to those with the right tools:

Has anyone stumbled upon any other fun tricks to help make the RSVP process a little easier?

Would you want to sell one of your ink pens? I am looking for one also to # our RSVP cards.

Thanks,

He he, I want to do this and write silly things on the cards to see if anyone would notice. Maybe I’ll offer a prize for finding the message.

I printed each guest’s name on the RSVP card with a place to check whether they are attending or not next to each name. I also did this so that people with children hopefully get the hint that their kids are not invited (I’m going the child-free route!).

i did the same as KLAWRAN - it was easy for people to just check a box to say if they were going to be there or not and so far i haven’t got any write ins

for people who got a +1 we wrote “i will be bringing a guest” with a check box for yes or no.

Another really easy solution that doesn’t require the use of invisble ink or any extra lists/paperwork is just writing the guest’s name as the return address on the RSVP card they are sending back addressed to you. You know the second you open your mailbox who is replying to you.

If you’re paying a calligrapher by the word or inviting several hundred guests, maybe it’s not feasible, but everyone I know who has gotten married in the last year has done this (either through stamps, stickers or their own handwriting) and have had no confusion whatsoever.

For a less-fancy and more cheap option, you can just use pencil. If you write lightly on the back corner of the RSVP card it is hardly noticeable. I did this with my invites and it came in handy. Some people forgot to write their names on the cards and we could easily figure out who they were.

I did the same as chelseamorning. Lightly in pencil up next to the stamp and no one noticed. My dad thought I was crazy and didn’t get why I spent all the extra time and effort when people would surely remember to write in their names. Well… the FIRST card that came back had no name, and it was from HIS best friend! I may have done an I-told-you-so dance :-)

I ordered one of those pens a few months ago and can’t wait to use it, for $2 it is an easy and fun solution.
