Mrs. Tartlet's Picture
Mrs. Tartlet, Rochester, MI Age and Occupation: Age & Occupation: 27, Post-Doctoral Research Fellow Fiance's Age and Occupation: 28, Medical Student Engagement Date: May 2, 2009 Wedding Date: May 2011 Venue: The Royal Park Hotel About Me: I'm an exuberant gal from the Midwest with a penchant for Neuroscience and anything sparkly. I'm not afraid to poke fun at myself, and I'm a believer that given the right pair of shoes, a girl can conquer the world. While an interest in the sciences threw Mr. Tartlet and me together (again, and again, until it finally stuck), we share a love for many things---food, video games, car dancing, food, bad puns, travel, did I mention food?---that ultimately led us to where we are now, less than five months from becoming Mr. and Mrs. We're planning a laid-back, romantic, garden-inspired affair with organic and quirky touches that reflect our love for the unexpected!

The Bucket List

January 13th, 2011 @ 12:34 pm by Mrs. Tartlet

Ever have that hamster-on-a-wheel sensation where you feel like you’re going nowhere fast? Sometimes our lives read like an endless string of deadlines, all too often filled with items we have to do (rather than things we want to). As a means of putting our lives in a “bigger picture” perspective, Mr. Tartlet and I started compiling a list to answer a very important question:

There are the big items (get married, become homeowners, start a family), but no less important are the small things (like making pasta from scratch). To give you a better idea of what I’m yammering on about, here’s a sampling of items on our bucket list that range from our wildest dreams to things we could cross off tomorrow:

  1. Visit the Pyramids of Giza
  2. Fly in a jet fighter (I think I’ll have to leave this one to Mr. Tartlet; I’d likely puke)
  3. Visit Alaska and see the northern lights
  4. Kiss on the Eiffel Tower
  5. Eat gelato while sitting at the Trevi Fountain in Rome
  6. Skype
  7. Learn to ride a horse properly
  8. Eat at Masaharu Morimoto’s restaurant in Philadelphia
  9. Learn to bake a souffle
  10. Visit where our parents grew up (Taiwan and Vietnam)
  11. Own a bunny rabbit and name it Pig

Not everything will get crossed off our extensive bucket list, but we’re in agreement that the biggest adventure will be embracing our lives together to the fullest like Carl and Ellie from the movie UP:

Or like this real-life couple:

Danny & Annie from StoryCorps on Vimeo.

The wedding is just one chapter in our lives together, and I can’t wait to see what’s in store for us down the road!

What’s on your bucket list?

I completely agree. You and I must have the same exact thought process because this post felt like I could’ve written it. :)

this is so cute! After watching the movie “up” with my honey for the first time, we decided to make our own “adventure book” We clipped out pictures of our “dream home” our “honeymoon” (before we were engaged,) our future “critters” the mr. wants a bloodhound! So as we get these items were taking pictures and putting them in our book. So far the engagement Is our first to come true…I can’t wait to fill out the rest of our book together.

Danny and Annie has to be one of my favorite thing in the entire world. I’m such a sucker for anything having to do with old people. I sob so much for that and Up. Best of luck with all your adventures!

One of mine, in addition to going to live in Africa, is to drive a Zamboni. Weird, but I don’t care. I want to drive a freaking Zamboni.

@Miss Prairie Dog: YES! I didn’t expect anyone to peg the inspiration behind that item. :) Love that movie!
@crystalirene: That’s such a sweet project! I may have to borrow this idea from you.
@TheFutureMcBride: That’s what these lists are for. ;) I think it would be pretty awesome if I knew someone who had driven a Zamboni.
@Miss French Toast: …I just added that to our list. Good grief, now I’m starving! :D

Still dying to check out (i.e. afford) Morimoto’s restaurant in Napa. Excellent list. Lots of travels are on mine! We did #1 and 5 on our honeymoon, and it was well worth it.

If make pasta from scratch is really on your list - this recipe (http://smittenkitchen.com/2008/02/seven-yolk-pasta-dough/) for both flavor and explanation is awesome!

We created a list like this, too! Ours were little silly things, but lots of things we want to try out as a couple. We’ve never taken a big trip together, so going to Europe is a big one on our list.

@Miss Tartlet: Oh, there’s other crazy things, but that one’s been on the longest. Like I saw Woodstock driving one over his birdbath with Snoopy watching when I was 6 or so.

Oh god, too many things. I think everything we do will never be able to top living and working in Tokyo together but hopefully we can one-up it one day. P.S. Your bucket list items are SUPER cute!
