About Mrs. Jam

You’re Invited to Our FIESTA!

January 14th, 2011 @ 1:20 pm by Mrs. Jam

Now that our save the dates are out and we’re officially, officially in wedding gear, we decided to grab the scanner gun and start the registry with a bang!

You're Invited to Our FIESTA! : wedding chicago registry 080 Yeah…it was Sunday morning. Enough said.

You may be surprised that we decided to not register for this:

You're Invited to Our FIESTA! : wedding chicago registry Kitchen Source

Truth be told, we did register for it at first, because isn’t it something that should be on the registry? I’ve seen photos of brides actually hugging the KitchenAid box at their bridal showers, and I wanted to be that happy with one, too.

Then I remembered that I hate cooking. And if I had one, it would most likely sit on the counter looking cute but collecting dust. We would probably use it a few times a year, and for a cool $300-ish, there are other things we would much rather have.

Like FIESTAWARE!!!

You're Invited to Our FIESTA! : wedding chicago registry Fiestaw Source

GAH, it’s just jaw-droppingly beautiful, isn’t it? Mr. Jam and I love Fiestaware by default, because when you open my parents’ kitchen cabinets, they look a little something like this:

You're Invited to Our FIESTA! : wedding chicago registry Dsc0046 Source

…only they have MORE. My mom has even been known to make masses of phone calls when she finds a great deal or when a new color is released. What can I say? The lady is passionate about colorful dinnerware.

Mr. Jam and I desperately want to be that excited about it, too.

We decided to register at Kohl’s and Bergner’s, because it’s near the majority of our guests and they are known for having oodles of deals on just about everything, plus they offer tons of bonus perks like coupons and cash back to the couple. So even if our Fiestaware goes unfulfilled, we’ll be able to take our coupons in and get it all for a swingin’ deal.

But after that bit of excitement, we were at a loss, which was sad because there we were with a scanner in hand and a registry full of dishes. Since we’ve been living together for a few years already, we already have a lot of the household stuff taken care of and it’s stuff that works. And stuff that we like. Stuff, stuff, stuff.

Wall=hit.

Now I’m curious to know what the couples who already have it all register for? Newer versions of stuff you already have? Random stuff you added for the sake of having a full registry? Did you have problems with your registry running out quickly? Egads, this is harder (and a lot less fun) than we were expecting. Help!

My fiancee are in the same boat. We’re planning on moving across the country in a couple years so we’re toying with an online registry in which your guests can donate to your house fund. I also like the idea of honeymoon registries. There are a ton of different ones, but see which one offers the best plan. …Also, I live about 20 minutes away from your venue. I was so excited to see a local wedding on here.

I’m basically replacing older stuff that is mis-matched from college/graduate school… nicer pots/pans, nicer dishes/glasses, nicer towels/rugs etc. And some new cool stuff too like a sake set, fun chop sticks, new gagets to try etc. I also did not go for the KitchenAid either though - I cook a lot but still don’t think I’d use it more than a few times a year… Why would I get it out to make cookies or something, when it’s just easier to do in a regular bowl. Plus, we live in a city and DO NOT have the space…

We’re registering for Fiestaware, too! I don’t know if you have a food processor already, but I always saw it as one of those things (like the KitchenAid mixer) that you register for and never use. That is, until I got a mini one for an engagement gift. It is a GODSEND. GET ONE.

we are replacing some things that are still mismatched and leftover hand me downs, but that’s still not a full registry, so we are also doing a honeymoon registry…from my investigation thus far, it seems like Honeyfund is the best because there is no service fee, just FYI =)

My kitchen is also ALL Fiestaware. I love it so much because it is bright, heavy duty and it’s manufactured by the Homer Laughlin Co. in WEST VIRGINIA! In Newell, WV where the factory resides, they have a Fiestaware seconds outlet where you can get the fiestaware REALLY cheap just because it may have a small unnoticeable imperfection.

I bought my townhome last Spring and have been living on my own for about 4 years so I have everything that I need by now. Even the things I dont have but want…wont fit in my townhome! Hence…www.ourwishingwell.com. Our guests will be able to donate their gift toward categories we choose like “honeymoon activities, new bedding/bedroom decor (since mine is currently greys and pinks), money to save for a house in the future” etc. Basically, we are hoping its a “classier” way of saying cash preferred.

We have more stuff than we have room for. We only registered for a new set of dishes and nicer wine glasses and sliverware. Plus a couple big ticket items (vacuum or espresso machine), plus some towels, and extra set of sheets for our room and the guest room. Everything else will be home upgrade based, like new door knobs, faucets, gardening stuff, gift certificates to Lowes.

I love all of the Fiestaware colors! We registered at Kohl’s, too, and were able to get awesome deals with their registry completion program. We made our purchases during a big sale and then I signed up for a charge card on the day we did the completion to get an extra 30% off.

I love all my Fiestaware! And Bergners, they have great coupons!
We’re going to upgrade some of the stuff we have (ie: crappy garage sale finds) but we’re looking into either a honeymoon registry or a registry for vintage stuff we like.

@mcnetn3 i totally agree. We moved in together in February and due to my bad habit for antiquing and a love for mid-century, are almost set in the kitchen department. We didn’t register yet but have a list on the fridge for when we think of something that we would need/love to have. Example: a new toaster oven and coffee pot (to replace the hand-me-downs from our parents), outdoor furniture, towels, new pots and pans, mailbox (ours is in sad condition), heating lamp for our deck (that the future hubby plans to build), a smoker, a beautiful aluminum garbage can for the kitchen we would never buy, sheets, water purifier… By word of mouth via our moms we are going to let people know that our photographer does gift cards and people know that we love home depot & Lowes. FYI: I heard that Home Depot DOES have registries, but they aren’t available online like some stores. People can go to any Home Depot and they will print out your list and help them out. We are thinking about Target & HomeDepot — but haven’t decided yet.

We live together and have lots of stuff too, so we registered for replacement things (most of our stuff isn’t that nice since we’re just about to graduate college) and added things we’ve always wanted. Also more sheets, towels, etc. Our biggest items were probably dishes and silverware, which we had but it was all mismatched. Serveware and some new appliances helped us fill our our registry, but we still don’t have a ton of stuff available for people to choose from.

We just decided not to register. However, it’s a little different for us seeing as were not lucky enough to find each other on the first try.

My ex and I however, were in a similar situation to yours. We went ahead and registered for some things we wanted but just never got, and for new versions of old things that had either come from parents, friends, or old relationships.

ah how i love fiestaware - you should add sheet sets (including pillowcases) to your registry b/c you can’t have too many sets of sheets. also a new set of towels would be good. i’m excited to get all the mismatched, different sized, threadbare out of my bathroom.

the good thing about doing something like fiestaware is that someone can buy only two plates or two place settings or one place setting or whatever. it is a good budget friendly gift, make sure you add serving bowls and a pitcher or something too :)
