Where Are the Footed Bowls?!

January 14th, 2011 @ 3:21 pm by Mrs. Panther

Being stranded at home all week from 5″ of snow (the New Englander in me is HORRIFIED), I’ve been tackling a lot of wedding tasks. I’ve been collecting centerpiece containers for months, and I’d like to kind of finish that up and put it aside. But why, why, WHY can’t I find the footed bowls that I want?!

To be more specific, this is what I’m looking for:

Silver or mercury glass would be acceptable. I’m not too picky. They just have to be low and wide. You know, like a, um, PT Cruiser or something. I actually identified the exact bowl I want—apparently, it’s by Martha Stewart and it originally cost $90. Yeah, no. I can’t afford to spend that much. Not even close.

It’s that big, low one in the middle. It doesn’t look so complicated, does it? But I can. Not. Find. It. Or anything like it. I’ve found lots of vintage silver footed compotes, but they’re all too shallow. I’ve found footed fruit bowls, but they’re all too deep. It needs to be 8″-10″ wide and no more than 7″ tall. If this exact thing has a name, I don’t know what it is and I don’t know how to find it!

I should probably just move on and buy some more vases, but darn it, I can’t. I love those beautiful pedestals. Help me, hive! Have you seen these? WHERE?!

i spoke with one florist a while back who had something similar to that except they were made of plastic (silver plastic) so they were much cheaper (if you’re ok with them being plastic)

9.5 wide by 7 tall, $21 glass, but you could easily spray paint them to look like metal. Valspar Metal paint.

8 tall by 6 wide, $7 silver plated

Try Jamali Garden, it’s a florist supply shop in NYC. They have urns, I believe that’s the name of what you’re looking for. They have one that is almost your exact specs, excepts it’s 8 inches tall. But you can look around, because they have more than one silver urn to choose from.

Ooooh, thanks so much, guys!!
@heather25: Those three stores have failed me. :( I need to keep checking, though!
@napabridekelsey: I’ve gotta get out there! I have to admit, most of my searching has been online. Thanks!
@jj, @kaytieluv: Iiiiinteresting. I wonder if you can tell!
@mcnetn3: Hmm, I wonder if my Krylon Looking Glass spray paint would work!
@Stumptown Lady: So much stuff on there! I need to search harder … I’ve been browsing it half-heartedly for months.
@vaness13181: I love Jamali Garden’s site! I didn’t know there was a brick and mortar store, though! That’s awesome.

I think they’re called urns too…

Here’s what I found…
http://www.wholesaleflowersandsupplies.com/store/p/813-Silver-Plated-Urn.html

It’s an inch taller, but it’s only $28.30

Silver Plated Urn

10″ diameter

@ENIGHILATOR: Ooh, that one is cool! I always thought urns had handles, but I guess not! Thanks :)

Did you not want handles? I am just asking because some of the pics you posted are definitely urns with handles (the top pic for sure and maybe the third). I am only asking to be on the lookout online for you :)

Not sure if your city has this store, but I’ve seen those at Old Tyme Pottery! They also have a lot of other great vases and centerpiece decor!

LADIES, I’VE GOT THIS! :)

First, pick up some inexpensive glass footed bowls…

…and then do this to the inside:

Total cost each? Maybe $13.

@vaness13181: Ooh, you think? I guess it doesn’t matter, especially if they don’t show — what I’m more concerned about is whether they’re too tall or deep. It seems like a lot of the urns are shaped more like champagne coolers, you know what I mean?
@xoxo0904: I’ve never heard of that! I just looked and we do have one about 40 minutes away — I’ll have to check it out! Thanks!
@ENIGHILATOR: Oooh, I like! Thank you!
