Mrs. Lox's Picture
Mrs. Lox, Baltimore Age and Occupation: 33, Government Worker Fiance's Age and Occupation: 35. IT Consultant Engagement Date: May 8, 2010 Wedding Date: May 2011 Venue: Vandiver Inn About Me: I’m an East Coast gal born and bred and a suburban brat turned city rat for the last year. Now Mr. Lox and I enjoy walking all kinds of places, having the coolest things around in our backyard, and especially our garage parking. I love gadgets, toys, Ben & Jerry’s Chubby Hubby ice cream, monkeys, and our insane cats. I’m a blonde by birth and a redhead by choice. I’m that girl in the cubicle farm with all the cool toys and the file cabinet covered in magnetic poetry. I still use smiley faces in my emails, whether people like it or not. This is not the first rodeo for Mr. Lox nor me. And together, we are planning an intimate afternoon wedding on a budget we can afford by ourselves.
About Mrs. Lox

Just Call Me Imelda

January 14th, 2011 @ 9:09 am by Mrs. Lox

I love shoes. I could try to be coy about it, but that’s just not my nature. So there it is. Shoes. I love them.

Just Call Me Imelda : wedding baltimore shoes Lox1 lox1

Oh how I love my closet. If only it were always this neat!

I present to you Exhibit A. This is a picture of my closet right after I moved in with Mr. E last year. Please take a moment to revel with me in the joy of a perfectly appointed closet. I know, this is a little weird. But I love my closet almost as much as I love shoes.

Right, shoes! Back on topic then. Look at the bottom of the closet underneath all the clothes. Please to be noting the giant stacks of shoeboxes over to the left. Please also direct your attention to the shoes on the floor on the right (and closer to the wall, on the two-tiered rack) that are not in boxes. Yes, I love shoes that much. My nickname maybe should have been Ms. Imelda. Oh well, that ship already sailed. Back to the point…this picture was taken about seven pairs of shoes ago, so imagine seven more on the left side there. It’s like that.

Naturally, one of the first parts of my wedding ensemble that caught my attention were the shoes! I had some requirements. They had to be fun, with bonus points awarded for sparkles. They had to be super flatty flat flat flats since Mr. Lox and I are the same height and for some reason I am hyper-sensitive about looking taller than him in pictures. (Seriously, only in pictures. I don’t even care the rest of the time. I’m a freak.) And they had to be comfortable because I wanted to wear my super fun, possibly sparkly, comfy flats all night.

Now enter my personal shopper. Before we go further, don’t hate on me. I’m a plus-sized gal who gets overwhelmed when shopping and usually ends up in tears unless I’m buying shoes. (See, now it all makes sense…) So when I need to shop for, you know, stuff to actually cover the rest of me, I turn to my lovely personal shopper at Nordstrom. (It’s a free service. You just pay for clothes! And no, they are not paying me to write this.) She was helping me pick out the clothes for my engagement pictures, when I saw them. The clouds parted, and the sun shone down on my perfect sparkly flats. I couldn’t leave them behind.

Oh hello, my lovelies! (source)

Just look at their sparkly gold, super fun perfection! And flat? Oh yes…the sole is the absolute minimum thickness that a shoe sole can be, and there is no hint of heel on these babies. They are perfect. And they are so so very me.

So there ends my tale of how and why I bought my shoes before my dress. Also I had this idea in my head that I had to have the right shoes on to get measured for my dress. Yes, now I know that is ridiculous unless you are doing a special hallow-to-hem measurement. I can, in fact, be taught.

What was your very first wedding-day purchase?

My first wedding purchase were shoes as well! I found them online about a month before he proposed (no, I didn’t know he was going to pop the question) but the next time I was at work after he asked, I bought those suckers! It was nice to have them while dress shopping. And I love them. And I love shoes, but I especially love them.

oh honey - I hear you on the shoes. I have a shoe wall. and I live in Manhattan. FI thinks I am crazy for using that much closet space for shoes (oh and mine? are all in clear container store boxes. OCD + shoe lover = a scary combination…)

My sister and I share your love for shoes. Her husband affectionately calls it “adding another member to the family” when she comes home with a pair. ;) Love the flats you chose!

I’ve been looking for wedding shoes since he proposed! We’re also the same height, and while he doesn’t care about me being in heels, I do! I’ve been gravitating mostly to flat embellished sandals (not a huge fan of flats), but none of them are as cute to me as 4″ peep toe heels…

We are so alike on the closet, shoes and height thing. Needless to say, I’m wearing flats too!

I think our first “purchase” was the venue, does that count? Oh, and I bought my dress a year early, too. When you know, you know ;)

They are so so beautiful - and look super comfy as well… I am going to do the contrary, will wait to have my dress before purchasing the shoes (but perhaps this is only because I have not yet found THE ones…)
