I am an aspiring foodie with a weak spot for the unusual and I love semi-reality food television. My other loves easily include laughing as a form of exercise, a book that I can't put down, summer baseball games, espresso with whipped cream, couch potato days and nights with the ridiculous Mr. Bacon, and our two kitties, Lincoln and Sawyer. We're planning a faux-destination wedding for 150 of our closest friends and family in the city we've both adopted as home that has a modern, yet whimsical twist and as many personal touches as we can manage.

Pour Some Sugar On Me

January 17th, 2011 @ 12:29 pm by Mrs. Bacon

Oh yes, this post is about delectable dessert goodness! Specifically, it’s about my newfound love of sweets tables. If you’ve been flipping through wedding magazines and blogs with the same fervor as I have, then you could not have missed this fabulous addition to modern weddings. Here’s the concept: Take your standard wedding cake, switch out that small round table with a robust rectangle, add tasty pastries and candy within a color scheme, and voila! Instant sweets table.

Adding apothecary jars and footed platters adds height and dimension. I love the way this setup really focuses on the color palette in each dessert—talk about eye candy!

I love this bridal shower! It’s sparked my love of wedding-day balloons, but that’s another post…

I just love this! Even though there’s no cake, I love that it’s totally DIY, which means that I could totally put one together on my own without breaking the bank.

So it’s time to start brainstorming for what exactly is going on the red, white, and gray themed Bacon table (maybe some chocolate-covered bacon?!?). I can tell you these things for sure: a fantabulous cake, Red Vines, and those oh-so-yummy French macarons. I can’t help it—I had a macaron for the first time last fall and I simply can’t get enough! If I’m feeling crafty, I might even bake my own. Hmm, let’s not get ahead of ourselves here, huh? If I go down that route, Maid of Honor Bacon will surely fill everyone in on my previous (unsuccessful) Christmas-cookie debacle and maybe warn guests away from my delectable table. Good thing I have until Sepetember to figure this out!

Would you try all the things at a sweets table, or would you rather have a goody bag to take some pieces home?

Our venue actually provides a candy bar for our event and it is included in the price! That was a HUGE selling point for me, believe it or not.

Yay candy bars!

We’re totally rocking the Sweets table. . . but just because Dadzilla demanded it. Oh boy. I don’t even think I’m going to decorate it though. Hmmm…

I would try a 2-3 sweets that were tempting me most and package up a few to take with me.

LOVE these pics SO much!

While I’m excited about our dessert bar, it’s one place where I’m not (planning to) go crazy. So many weddings I’ve been to… everyone is stuffed by the time the cake is cut, forget about piling on additional sweets. *I* love dessert in all forms and will eat as much as possible from our own dessert buffet. Yummy post!

I had big plans for the dessert table. I loooooooved that balloon picture. In the end I ran out of time to DIY it. A few frames with the names of each dessert, and pies, cakes, and cookies from Food 4 Less. Oh lawd. Hot mess! I hope yours turns out just how you like, make sure to allow for plenty of time to put it all together ;)

Speaking of Bacon desserts…there is a donut shop in Portland, Oregon called: Voodoo Donuts and they have a Nacon Maple Donut. Wouldn’t it be awesome if they were able to ship you some!?

Their website is:
