About Miss Oatmeal

A Surprise for Me

January 17th, 2011 @ 10:10 am by Miss Oatmeal

We’re talking honeymoon, people.

Mr. Oatmeal and I decided early on in our engagement that he would be responsible for planning our honeymoon. We figured that he didn’t have much in the way of an opinion about all the wedding details I love and talk about so much with you ladies, so we gave him something he could really get excited about. Talk about win-win-win: I get to go crazy planning this wedding to be everything I ever wanted and go on a honeymoon I didn’t have to plan a single thing for, and Mr. Oatmeal gets to do the one thing he actually cares about. Well, besides marrying Miss Oatmeal.

So you’re probably wondering where we’re going! Well, so am I. I actually want to be surprised about this. There are very few things I like not knowing, and this happens to be one of them. I’m fairly certain that we’re going to an all-inclusive resort and that it will be some place tropical = my hair will be a huge, frizzy mess the entire time. I’ll deal.

We leave the Monday after our wedding, leaving us Sunday to relax with our families, open gifts, take day-after shots (!), etc. We’re flying out of Fresno (thus avoiding having to drive to L.A. or San Francisco—YESSSSS), and we’ll be gone for seven nights. That is all I know.

So, could it be Jamaica?

Or somewhere in the Caribbean?

What about Fiji?

Or, will we stay closer to home and travel to Mexico?

I’m so glad we decided to let Mr. Oatmeal plan everything. He’s pretty much going to tell MOH and Mama Oatmeal, who will help me pack for the trip. But until we board that flight on the morning of May 16, 2011…I couldn’t be happier to be completely clueless about just this one thing.

Were you brave enough to leave the honeymoon up to your other half? Or am I just completely crazy?

Wow lucky you, I’m sure it will be a wonderful surprise!!
My FI actually planned only one vacation for us (the first weekend trip) and he found a great deal in a great hotel - so when needed he did step up.
Unfortunately since then I’ve been the planner, and even when he does participate or do something, he’s always asking for my opinion so he could never plan the honeymoon completely by himself!

I think that is awesome! Unfortunately, I am huge, crazy control-freak so I don’t think I could total relinquish all control of the honeymoon planning. I’m excited to find out where you end up going!

I’m too much of a control freak as well to let DH do that.

Oh no, no, no. I could not hand over any project completely, even if it is to dear sweet boy. We’ve planned all of our trips together (or mostly me). I’ve got a head for details and research whereas he’s more of broad strokes kinda guy. I may or may not also be particular… ;)

That’s wonderful!! FI will be planning the honeymoon, but I don’t think I could take it if he left me completely in the dark! I am NOT good with surprises.

Thats what we did for our honeymoon, my DH planned it all, and I found out when we were at the airport. It was wonderful, and really took a lot of stress off of me the week of the wedding!

I think it is an awesome idea! I have a similar situation, but my parents are planning the whole thing, leaving both me and FI in the dark. I love that I don’t have to worry about it! I may get more anxious about it as the day approaches, but how often do you get to go on a surprise trip?

Ooooooh, a surprise honeymoon sounds AMAZING! We had a similar idea when we first started planning but I am WAY too Type A to let that go, haha, I had to jump in and help!

That’s our plan. I told him I’d like to go someplace new, I’d like to lay on the beach alot, but I wasn’t opposed to an educational thing (he talked about touring Scotland, which would be amazing) and that I wanted to be able to take beautiful pictures. The rest is up to him. I’m not scared, either. He would be booking everything, anyway since he’s using his frequent flier miles, hotel points and credit card :D

that’s awesome! You must be soo psyched! Ok, unfortunately…I could never do that; I’m WAAAYYY too Type-A…need to plan everything myself to make sure it goes the way I want! HA! And so…I pretty much told my lovely fiance that we could compromise on anything else for the wedding except for the honeymoon…i wanted to go on the honeymoon of a lifetime to the place of my dreams…French Polynesia (moorea and bora bora)!! Needless to say, i’ve been planning it for over a year, and longer than we’ve been engaged for! I booked it for us way back in august and still can’t believe we’re going!!! Soooo psyched! Can’t wait to hear where you end up! :)

I love the idea of a surprise honeymoon! I’m not sure if my sweetie would be able to plan it or not. He’s very capable but he’s never really planned anything for us. He’s more of a we’re going to visit this place this weekend and we’ll find a hotel and places to eat and things to do when we get there kind of a guy.

hahaha I like your way of thinking! I totally handed the reins over to him!! One less thing for me to worry about! The meticulous accountant side of him has come out and he is diligantly planning (way more than I would have done!!)

While I’m very much a control freak, I think I might want to be surprised by this, as well. I’ll give him a few tips (beachy and resort-ish) and leave all the little details up to him!!!
