Mrs. Lox, Baltimore Age and Occupation: 33, Government Worker Fiance's Age and Occupation: 35. IT Consultant Engagement Date: May 8, 2010 Wedding Date: May 2011 Venue: Vandiver Inn About Me: I’m an East Coast gal born and bred and a suburban brat turned city rat for the last year. Now Mr. Lox and I enjoy walking all kinds of places, having the coolest things around in our backyard, and especially our garage parking. I love gadgets, toys, Ben & Jerry’s Chubby Hubby ice cream, monkeys, and our insane cats. I’m a blonde by birth and a redhead by choice. I’m that girl in the cubicle farm with all the cool toys and the file cabinet covered in magnetic poetry. I still use smiley faces in my emails, whether people like it or not. This is not the first rodeo for Mr. Lox nor me. And together, we are planning an intimate afternoon wedding on a budget we can afford by ourselves.
About Mrs. Lox

You Bought *What*?

January 17th, 2011 @ 3:17 pm by Mrs. Lox

Sometimes the tiniest wedding purchases make me unreasonably happy. Now, with every paycheck I’m attempting to buy something for the wedding. This way the purchases are stretched out and the pain of spending money seems less painful. There is a method to my madness. However, my next purchase was so small that I just made it willy nilly when the mood struck me. On a whim, even. I mean, it cost me under four dollars for the item and shipping (which was inexplicably from Hong Kong!).

So what is this tiny purchase full of joy? What four-dollar item has made me unreasonably happy? Let’s see if you can guess from these pictures…

Nothing to see here, right? Just a crazy lady holding up a plain old envelope…

Gotcha! Turns out it’s hard to take a picture of the result when shining a black light. My pithy message is “Does this work?” I know—I’m so witty.

OK, OK. My inner five-year-old got the better of me on this one. But seriously, how cool is invisible ink?

Now, I can hear you all out there. Miss Lox, what on earth does invisible ink have to do with your wedding? Well, I’m so glad you asked. This is going to be my RSVP-herding solution. Come invitation time, I am going to number each RSVP card with this invisible ink. And then, if a card comes back without a name filled in? I’m going to shine my super special light on it, and the invisible ink will give the culprit away! And the best part for this occasionally anal-retentive bride is that I don’t have to mar whatever beautiful RSVP cards I have ordered with numbers! They’ll be on there, but they’ll be invisible! Hooray for me!

Did you buy any weird items that were actually wedding specific? How did you herd incomplete RSVP cards?

All pictures courtesy of me. Think you could do better?

Wow! My inner geek loves this idea! It sounds like something out of those kid detective books I read when I was little. What a clever idea!
I haven’t gotten to the invite/rsvp stage, but the nameless responses is something I’ve worried about. This will definitely be one of those things I toy with doing when we get to that point. Thanks for sharing! :-)

Where did you get it? I’ve been looking on ebay but haven’t found any that inexpensive.

Miss Lioness just wrote about invisible ink too. Worked well for her.

I love the idea of the invisible ink.
Alltough i ended up doing my rsvp’s with preprintet names of all the guests (all guests pr.invitation on one rsvp).
Took a LOT of time and a few bad words but i feel it’ll be worth it in the end. We’re having a small intimate wedding with just our closest family and friends and didn’t want to get stuck with a few +1 guests to many. So now our guest will know excactly who is invited since all their names are already printed on and there is no room to write and extra name on them, to top it off, i know excactly who’s coming and who’s not.

I really wanted to do something like this but I ran out of time. Luckily for the rsvps that we’ve gotten back so far, only one person forgot to write their name - but they’d put a big ol’ return address stamp on the back of the envelope so I knew who they were!

That is an AWESOME idea!! I have a toy/pen of Doctor Who’s sonic screwdriver that has a UV ink nib, and the light at the end reveals it. Now I can actually say that it’s useful, instead of just being a collector’s “toy” that amuses pretty much no one but me. :)

I got them from DealXtreme too and it was such a great surprise! Since they came quite a few weeks after ordering them, I wasn’t remembering them anymore, so when they did show up, I was so excited!!
