Only In My Dreams

January 17th, 2011 @ 9:41 am by Mrs. Lox

Well, at seven months out it finally happened. I had a wedding dream. I still remember it clearly.

I kind of thought all the talk about wedding dreams and nightmares and stuff was silly talk about something that would never happen to me. I am a level-headed, relaxed kind of bride, after all. (Now really…hush you. I’m relaxed, dammit.) Anyway, whatever. I didn’t expect to have wedding dreams, especially not bad ones. But last night I did.

For what it’s worth, the wedding in my dream was gorgeous. It was at our venue and the weather was gorgeous and all was perfect. I even remember my walk down the aisle, which was awesome. I was grinning, Mr. Lox was thrilled. It was storybook stuff. So why was this a bad dream, you ask?

Because the music was all wrong. Mr. Lox and I are picking nontraditional music that has meaning for us. In the dream I was waiting to hear our special selections, but all the music was super conventional. Very classical, and very not what we had wanted for our wedding. Now, even in the dream there was nothing wrong with that. It was beautiful. But I was so disappointed that the selections we had put so much time and thought into were not being played.

After the wedding I said something to the DJ and the venue owner, and they were horrified. They insisted we should have another wedding to get it right. And then everything fell apart. The weather went downhill. The guests couldn’t be rounded up. I just couldn’t find anything. And I was frustrated and angry, and all I wanted was a perfect wedding with our perfect music. Then I woke up.

Luckily I wasn’t stressed when I woke up. I was just kind of amazed. My thoughts were more like, “Huh. I just had a wedding dream. Didn’t really think that would happen. Oh well.” I guess the real kicker is that if I had this dream at seven months out, I should be having some crazy dreams when the wedding really gets close. Ha!

Did you have wedding dreams? When was your first one? What was it about?

My dream is the wedding is starting, the bridal march is being played, and I am in pajamas and my hair is wet. I go downstairs looking for a dress, but there are lots of dresses and no where is the one I was planning on wearing. Then I wake up, puzzled that I am scared about wearing pajamas at the wedding when it is 6 months away..

Must be a metaphor about not having everything totally planned or something..

I have dreams all the time and I’m still 11 months out! Mostly I dream about not being able to make a decision and it is clear why - my head is swirling full of dj, photography and flower info right now and we need to start booking people. I’m hoping the dreams will slow down soon!

Just yesterday my FI said the wedding kept him up during the night. He must be having the bad dreams because I haven’t had any… yet.

Lol that’s funny!! I think it’s a good sign you weren’t freaking out once you were awake :-)
I honestly know I dream a lot about the wedding but you know how dreams are… Can’t really remember them!

Before the wedding, I had nightmares about it being time to walk down the aisle and I didn’t have a dress or shoes and hadn’t even showered. If you check my old threads, you will see that I actually almost didn’t have a dress though, so this is kind of understandable.

Now after the wedding, I have nightmares that we decided to ‘redo’ the wedding and I don’t fit into my wedding dress anymore, hadn’t hired a hair or makeup stylist and just wasn’t ready in general. In the dream I am furiously running around totally stressed out begging people to do my hair and wondering how I’m going to stuff into my dress. It’s been 7 months and I have this nightmare every few nights, I have no idea why. I’ve only gained 2 lbs since the wedding, if you count it since that’s what I weighed up to 2 months before the wedding.

I had my first one a week ago. I had sat down with my mom that day and she was asking about the wedding planning and brought up ideas I hadn’t gotten around to pallning yet/hadn’t thought of. I went to bed that night and dreamed I woke up and it was the day before the wedding. Nothing was ready. Not the venue, not the food, the music, the projects I had planned, not even my dress was ready!

Guess that’s what happens when someone brings to you attention the multitude of things still left on the to-do list.

Oh, you best get your wedding music right then! I think your brain is trying to tell you something!

Haha, Glasses!

In my worst wedding dream my brother and I were driving around a 1 hour to wedding, handing out invitations to guests at their homes. I had wet hair and my man of honor just called to say he couldn’t come b/c he had to work.

Banish those fears, Lox! All will be well!
