I’ve known for years who was going to be in my bridal party. How to ask these fine ladies to join me on my wedding day? Now, that’s a whole different story. I had to resist the urge to just blurt it out on the phone hours after getting a ring on my finger, since I knew I wanted them each to get something a little special to hold on to. First I wanted to send little photo books that chronicled our friendships, but I realized that I’d never be able to get any pictures of Lainey (MOH Bacon) and me from our freshman homecoming or from our senior prom before I went home for the holidays, so it was back to the drawing board.

After some quick brainstorming, I tried going down the “check out how bad your dress could be” route by Photoshopping their faces on the most hideous bridesmaids’ dresses I could find online, but somehow that didn’t fit the vibe I was going for…

Then I stumbled on these fantastic paper-doll cards at OnceWed, and they had to be mine. (You might also recognize these from Miss Tartlet.)

This was my first DIY project of what I hope will be many for this wedding, and it was more of a doozy than I thought it was going to be. I have four bridesmaids, so that’s four paper-doll chains of four dolls each, plus 16 little red dresses and 16 itty-bitty little hairdos. It took me two hours of sitting on the floor rescuing bits of paper from the kitties and a few hand cramps from the not-so-crafty scissors, but I made them and I love them!

Thankfully, each of my lovely ladies said yes! I cannot wait till we are celebrating at my bachelorette party and getting our hair done before it’s time for the white dress. These four women are easily among the most important people in my life, and I am honored that they are going to be supporting me over the next year and standing beside me on my big day.
