Finding My Inner Sexy Minx

January 18th, 2011 @ 5:37 pm by Mrs. Waffle

Finding My Inner Sexy Minx : wedding austin photography 1 1

There are many words I can think of to describe myself…loud, smart, funny, cute, crafty. However, I can’t seem to find my “sexy.” Waffle has said, on occasion, that I’m a sexy minx, but I think he’s a bit biased.

Why am I concerned about this?

Well, folks, I’m doing a boudoir photo shoot this weekend. My friend Wendy is a professional makeup artist and, along with a fabulous photographer, runs a company called Silver Screen Pinups. They are currently running a Valentine’s special where you get free hair and makeup, one hour of shoot time and 3 retouched photos. If I didn’t know Wendy, I would not even venture into this. My plan is to send one photo to Waffle for Valentine’s Day while he is in LA and save the other 2 for a wedding gift.

In any case, I get to have two costume changes in this deal and I have no idea what to wear or how to rock it without looking like a complete goof. For those of you who watch “30 Rock,” just picture Liz Lemon doing a sexy photo shoot and you’ll understand. AWKWARD. EEK! According to Wendy, who is also a burlesque dancer, I will be just fine and I will actually have fun. Ummm, OK. I’ve had many a professional photo done of me before for headshots, performances and what have you, so it’s not the thought of being photographed or being in my skivvies. It’s the idea of batting my bedroom eyes for the photographer and looking ridiculous instead of ravishing. At the same time, I have a degree in acting, so I should be able to do this, right?

Ugh. Maybe I should smuggle some martinis in my purse…just in case.

Have any of you done boudoir photos? If you have, do you have any tips for finding your inner sexy minx?

Just stay relaxed and chilled, you will always looke sexier if you feel comfortable, and if you try too hard it will always look forced and turn out looking strange, mine did anyway lol!godd luck and remember to have fun!x

I can’t say I’ve done a boudoir shoot, but a sexy little slip is good “entry level” lingerie. It’s just a nightie, so it’s easy to be comfortable and not feel too weird.

I had a shoot done as a Christmas gift for my husband. I felt just as awkward but the photographer made it easy to have fun. She “directed” me, which was nicer than it sounds. The guidance helped tons.

Just keep reminding yourself that you’re “funny” and “cute.” Both of those are sexy in their own way. Oh and I DID have a couple of glasses of champagne beforehand. That definitely helped me loosen up. :)

I did one and was SUPER nervous. What actually helped was having my best friend by myside to help (she had done one before). Plus, my photographer (obvs a woman) was amazing and made me super comfortable. She had been doing this for years and knew exactly what to say and do to make me feel comfortable. When you think about it, it’s kind of like posing in a bathing suit with heels, right? lol.

@Kelli P.: Oh yes! Champagne helps!!!

And music! I brought a mix CD of my favorite strong girl music, lots of Christina Aguilera, and Britney!

I would think with your acting experience maybe if you did 2 different characters (maybe sexy student or teacher and dominatrix) you could “act” like those characters and just have fun with it. You don’t have to go all out… just get a sexy outfit for each and some accessories (lollipop and whip for the above examples). I have the same problem but it seems easier if you are pretending to be an alter-ego, sexy person. :) Good Luck! I am sure he will love it or at the very least it will be a funny joke if you do look ridiculous!

This is so me. Cinnamon Buns calls me curvaceous, and really seems like he means it, but I’m all “Dude. They’re a As. A is not curvaceous” and then he tells me I’m wrong. :)

The martini isn’t such a bad idea - it’ll help you from overthinking everything. ;-)

Who are you doing them with?

I did a session with Palos Studio in September and Erin was AMAZING at making me feel comfortable and relaxed. She also provided a little pink champagne for relaxation. ;)

Just relax, drink a little bubbly, and think about his face when he sees them. And YES, start with more conservative and your least favourite outfit, because you’ll get more comfortable as the session progresses!

Alcohol. Liquid Courage! I had a glass of wine beforehand, and my photog had shots ready. Try not to feel too critical of yourself, and see if you can just let go and have fun. Normally boudoir photgs are used to getting ladies loosened up, so you should be fine! Cannot wait to see the photos!!

Yup. Champagne. I brought a small bottle of champagne with me. And knowing your photog definitely helps. It helped me, anyway. Do what you’re comfortable in - I wore some cute lacy boyshorts and a Cowboys jersey to help ease me in. Megan got some really cute and fun pictures first. That helped loosen me up so I could find my inner sex kitten. Cuz, um, yeah…that’s not natural for me at all!!

You’ll do great! Just remember that the photographer is a professional and will make sure that you look sexified instead of silly :)

Waffles, I did one recently. It was a little awkward to get going but I wanted to tell you 1. music and 2. my favorite outfit— loose shirt of Mr. Waffles + cowboy boots + some nice underwear. Those were my favorite shots!

Good luck sweetheart!

From a female photog- a lot of the time, women feel uncomfortable because they aren’t sure “how to look sexy” for their men…

Well ladies… there is hope yet!! They love you, so they think you are a sexypants no matter what!

Be yourself, even if you wouldn’t consider yourself sexy!

For some clothing ideas- work some of his personal articles in if possible!! Maybe his button down and a pair of cute panties? Maybe its one of his hats, or for a sillier sexy side, his boxers with hearts ;)

Just remember- he loves you and thinks you will always be the sexiest!!

Good luck!

Ack! Good luck! Part of me thinks a boudoir shoot would be fun and the other part of me thinks that I, like you, am just a goof. I don’t even know if the hubs would appreciate them!

This could not have come at a better time! Before relaxing in front of the computer, I was actually preparing my outfits for my shoot! HAHA! I’m very nervous about them, but I found a photog that’s looking to build her portfolio, so i guess we’re in the same boat- novices and a little uncomfortable. :/

Hi there! I completely agree with Faith. Tying in personal articles of his is a great way to remind both of you who you’re doing this for and that he is already in love with you and thinks you are uber sexy! A little drink before and maybe even during the shoot won’t hurt to lighten your mood. During my boudoir shoots, we even like to include the wine in some of the shots. Most of all, don’t let yourself feel embarrassed. There’s no need to be! Also note, while it may be tempting to bring along a friend for moral support it will likely just make you more self conscious to have an audience of any sort aside from your photographer. It’s best to go it alone and do all you can to feel your best the day of. Professional hair and make-up is awesome. Lastly, you already mentioned your photog is wonderful so trust her to do what she does best. I assure you many of the women in her portfolio likely felt just as you are and just look how fantastic their shoots went. Your photographer will guide you through it all. I bet you do indeed have fun!

I recently did this and I too was thinking what the heck do I wear for this and how do I bring out my sexy side for a photographer, but let me tell you it was a BLAST and I would 100% do it again. I had some champagne though the first though clicks of the camera and it helped me feel a little more comfortable. I brought all kinds of stuff from casual tees- since I am the kind of girl who hangs out in soffes and tees more than bedroom negligee- to sexy bras and panties. I wore several different outfits and my photographer actually was super helpful with ideas as well on the spot, for example my scarf became a top at one point. Just have fun with it but be you! If you think about it your fi thinks your are sexy for who you are, not for trying to be a play boy chick. I just sorted though my pictures and honestly, I thought my favorites would be the ones where I was trying to look like a little sex kitten, but the ones I liked the most were the ones that looked like me. You can look incredibly sexy hanging out in a bra and tank and little bed time shorts. Check out different boudoir shoots and you will see that tons of people do the ones where you don’t look like you are the centerfold of a magazine, but looks more like your fiance taking a peek into your room when you are ready for bed- or something personal like that.
