About Miss Oatmeal

Ring-a-Ding-Ding

January 18th, 2011 @ 2:04 pm by Miss Oatmeal

I have received a few requests to see the little piece of loveliness that has made its home on my left hand, so now I’m delivering.

Mr. Oatmeal and I went ring shopping just once at the beginning of 2010. We went to three different jewelers in town and I tried on oodles and oodles of gorgeous rings. He knew I’d be pretty picky about what I wanted, so this was just what worked best for us. I had it narrowed down to two different settings, and they couldn’t have been more different! The decision was left up to him and he knew that I’d be ecstatic with either. He, of course, chose the center diamond himself and did a lovely job!

The ring he proposed with (if we’re being honest, here) was the one I really had my heart set on. And here it is. :)

Isn’t it lovely? Here are a few things that I adore about it:

  • It’s yellow gold. I love how it looks on my skin tone, but I mostly love how rare it is to have yellow gold as a new bride these days.
  • It’s timeless. My ring reminds me of something that my dad could have proposed with in 1979. It isn’t the least bit trendy and I know I’ll love and appreciate it forever.
  • The side diamonds. The side diamonds are tension setting, so that when you look at it from the side, they’re just floating.
  • It sparkles. Obvious, I know. But because of the way the diamonds are set, the light reflects under the diamonds to make them sparkle just that much more.

Excuse the lint on the ring in one picture…it’s desperate for a cleaning.

And there you have it. Is there anything unconventional about your ring that you absolutely adore? And did you have a say in which ring it would be, or did you leave it completely up to your other half?

If by say, you mean left images of rings sorted by cut on your computer in a folder marked wedding… then yes. ;). I really had no clue he knew about it.

Oooh, I absolutely love your ring! I’m a huge fan of yellow gold, and the diamonds are stunning! My ring is yellow gold too. :)

I told my then FI that I wanted a yellow gold ring with a sapphire. We ended up looking at rings together, since he has much more traditional tastes than I do, and he wanted to make sure I got something that I’d love. We ended up going the custom route, and I picked out my top 5 favorite settings. Then he kicked me out of the process, and surprised me a few months later with my gorgeous ring: a sapphire flanked by a diamond on each side in a yellow gold setting. He did an amazing job. :)

Gorgeous ring! I love the setting of my ring….it’s fairly unique and all the small stones add that extra sparkle.

I love that my ring has an antique feeling to it. We had talked about rings ahead of time and I sent him a few ideas. He put them all together in one ring. Love it!

Ah! Those tension settings are crazy! I can’t believe everything stays put. That is totally hip.

As a yellow gold ring girl also, I totally get you! No body has yellow gold anymore! And it looks so nice!

@photographernico: HA! I like your tactics.

@BrooklynBride10: I want to see pictures of that…it sounds so dreamy!

@Miss Bacon: Oh good, so glad you couldn’t see the lint!

@Miss Giraffe: Tell me about it…I’m constantly nervous. But I get it checked/cleaned WAY more than would be considered normal.

Lint, what lint?! We went ring shopping a few months before we got engaged and I told him the type of ring I wanted and he completely custom made a ring based off it. It’s perfect!

Gorgeous!! totally love the yellow gold. mine looks just like urs but white gold and with its matching 5 round stones band.
I had picked the setting design with my fiancee, with the size of the center stone n everything! I dont think they had any say in this lol, but he just wanted to make sure i got what i’ve been dreaming of.

Congrats
