Hoarders: Wedding Decor Addition

January 18th, 2011 @ 11:04 am by Mrs. Prairie Dog

As per my stripe/floral plan, and our color scheme/feel, I needed a way to incorporate the color black, without it coming off as heavy or too dark or uber-modern.

After a few months of collecting, I had to clean up my under-staircase storage (which I affectionately call “Harry Potter’s bedroom”) to accommodate this amalgam of wrought iron:

AKA the start of our centerpieces. Since they are each different, we’ll also be getting about a dozen of these IKEA lanterns to create a little more continuity:

Interspersed between the wrought iron decor, the flowers will look something like this:

…only plus a little more pink and maybe some blue hydrangeas. And it will all be on banquet tables swathed in this color tablecloth:

Plus a cake table and (and maybe head table?) with a tablecloth or runner like this:

Whew! What do you think? I haven’t really seen a lot of wrought iron used in centerpieces, so I’m hoping it looks okay!

Ooh, I love it! Are you going to spraypaint the candleholders white? I think it would give it even more of the feeling of what you’re going for! Gorgeous.

My venue includes wrought iron candelabras that are like one of the ones in your picture. I think we’re going to do them on alternating tables with tall floral centerpieces on the others. I’ve seen pictures from my venue and they look great!

So far I’m loving everything about your wedding - I think the strong nature of the iron will be beautiful with the romantic softness of your flowers and tablecloths. Just beautiful!

@Jaime: I’m renting them from a local event company!

@Jonea: one of my friends calls hers “the room of requirement” because you can find anything in there- LOL

@iwantweddingchampagne: of course! let’s see…I know that both Hobby Lobby and Michael’s have some wrought iron stuff currently, but a few pieces are a little older and are from Pier 1 and Home Goods. hope that helps!

A Prairie Dog Companion VIII: Reception Details | Weddingbee

[...] the thick of wedding planning, I had this idea. An idea that involved blues and your-grandma’s-favorite-floral tablecloths and mismatched black wrought iron. Also: big, rectangular tables. And round tables too. And all sorts of other stuff that made sense [...]
