Mrs. Moonbeam's Picture
Mrs. Moonbeam, Los Angeles/San Antonio Age and Occupation: 26, Intern Architect Fiance's Age and Occupation: 26, Studio Analyst, aspiring Screenwriter Engagement Date: May 20, 2009 Wedding Date: November 2009 Venue: Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church (LaCoste, TX) and Mary Gray Events Center (Castroville, TX) About Me: I was born and raised in Texas, but after college I moved to Seattle for a couple of years and loved it. Then I followed my beau out here to LA and we're getting settled in. I've been making things since I can remember. I was raised by crafters. I love to sew, draw, paint, build, cook, bake (anything with a tangible end result is fair game). In that same spirit, I've been hosting since I was old enough to cook and set a fancy table. I kind of take after my grandmother, who believes that your morning OJ always tastes better out of the good crystal.

After the Fact

January 20th, 2011 @ 6:53 pm by Mrs. Moonbeam

So, we all know how I felt about our wedding photography, and I’m not going to rehash all of that, but I did still have to make our parents photo books for Christmas (I used MyPublisher and the parents loved them), which meant I had to get some pictures done right. I found Peter Steinhoff on a photography forum and contacted him to see if he could work some magic. He did what he could to reduce some of the noise, remove the red lines and worked on correcting the color.

I’m not going to show the original photo, because, quite frankly I feel that would be a bit mean, so I’ve shown a small portion of the following (from top to bottom) original, edited by John & Whitney Canales and edited by Peter Steinhoff.

The original is super dark, grainy and has that damn red line. Their edit is black and white because they wouldn’t give me color edits, even after I expressed my unhappiness with all the black and white photos. The edit from Peter is clearer, sufficiently lightened and the color is true. The line has also been removed.

Edited by John & Whitney Canales. The line is still there, it’s just white and the picture is super grainy.

Edited by Peter Steinhoff, no it’s not perfect, but in my opinion it’s a miracle considering the starting point.

Because of the cost associated with editing, I only got the pictures of the bridal party walking down the aisle, I did my best to edit the other photos on my own. I got these photos back after I recapped this portion of the wedding so they didn’t get to make their blogging debut until today.

No, it’s not the ideal way to get wedding photos, which is why I would certainly recommend finding a reputable and experienced photographer in the first place. Please, learn from my mistakes, but know that if you find yourself in the same situation, there is hope. Miracles can’t happen, but pictures can get to a place that makes you happy.

If you’d like to contact Peter, he can be reached at pst@telia.com.

All images taken by John & Whitney Canales, editors are noted.

Hi, I am a photographer and photoshop editor and i get many clents with the same problem and sometimes we can not save many photos because they are out of focus.
Please future brides find a professional photographer as Mrs. Moonbeam says its very expensive to retouch a photo and would never be the same, remember a professional photographer can give you up to 2,000 of documentary of the day, if you need retouching in 1 photo it can cost from $25 and up..YES! just 1 photo.

Its your wedding, its a fantastic unique day, a professional vendor of photo and video will deliver a perfect product and you will be happy.

Meet with your photo and video person, ask questions make sure he/she will be the one working in your wedding. I recomend small studios because you might end with a new photographer on your wedding day and that photographer can be anybody with a camera.

Good Luck to everybody!

Yes the editing was totally worth it! Glad that you have been able to find this solution, and will definitely take your advice!
I do believe that spending big bucks does not ensure quality - but going the cheapest route possible often doesn’t either.
I think that we’ll spend the big bucks on the photos, and then try to go cheap with the video. In both cases we’ll do our homework, try to find the right people, and cross our fingers!

Wow! He did a really great job improving your photos (especially considering what he had to work with). I think these edited photos are some that you can be proud of, they really do look so much better now.

Peter did a wonderful job improving the photos, and I am so sorry you had to go through this in the first place. I hope your advice helps others - Mr. H and I balked at the price of our photographer (and he was even on the less-expensive end when we booked him!), but it was so, so worth it in the end.

Wow, Moonbeam, Peter did a great job. That’s such good news. I was so bummed when I read about your photos.

If you’re not in a rush and need anymore photo editing (for free), let me know.
