Favor Fave

January 21st, 2011 @ 10:37 am by Ms. Sloth

Mr. S and I never intended on giving favors to our guests.

First of all, I find that most people never even take the favors. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve seen favors left behind on the table after the guests leave a wedding. Secondly, with all of the time, energy and money we’re spending on other wedding-related tasks, we just didn’t have it in us to take on another project. We figured that we’d just make a donation in lieu of favors and that was that.

Well, we still plan on making a donation, but guess what? We’ve changed our minds (surprise, surprise) and will be giving out favors, too!

But here’s the thing: they’re super cheap, and super easy. Cheap as in a mere fifty cents per favor. And easy as in all we need to do once we get them is put them on a table.

Check it out, guys: wildflower seed packets!

I ordered these at American Meadows and I’m stoked. All our guests will have to do is take these packets home and sprinkle them, and then, in a few months, they’ll have this:

Pretty pretty flowers! I think it’s perfect for our wedding because we’re getting married in a garden, and they’re perfect for us because we’re cheap and lazy! And if our guests decide to leave them behind, well, we’ll just keep the rest and I’ll plant wildflowers wherever I go for the next year or so.

Are you planning on giving out favors at your wedding? What kind of favors will you give?

This is what I am giving as favors too! I am personalizing the seed packet and putting some cutsie saying on them.

Those seed packets are so pretty. I’m sure your guests will want to take them home, but the idea of carrying around the leftovers and scattering them wherever you go made me think of Miss Rumphius. Way to make the world more beautiful with your favors, Miss Sloth!

I’m thinking of stealing Ms. Hippo’s idea of having a donut making snack machine at the end of the reception with glassline personalized bags. If these don’t work, NO. FAVORS.FOR.YOU!! I like your idea too. It really ties in with your wedding.

Lovely idea, I’m sure your guests will love it! I don’t have a garden I could use them in, but I was thinking that I’d love to build a nice day around that - e.g. organize a picnic in a park or forest and then plant them for fun somewhere! Would be fun to go back to the same spot a year later and see them grow like in your pic :-)

We’re doing the traditional “eat this” favor. lol However, my future mother in law figured out a cute way to display our “eat this” favor. We are wrapping pieces of decorative paper (lime green with white polka dots) into cones. Inside the cones will be a tuelle circle which holds our favors of chocolates. On the outside of the cone will be a ribbon looped around with a sprig of our flowers in the middle.

LOVE this idea! Simple yet very clever for the location of your wedding. Who doesn’t love fresh flowers in their yard?

Love this idea. A friend of mine did something similar last spring and I was able to see their favor growing all summer in my garden.

We are doing seed packets too! I found a template online, and used Illustrator to design them to match our invitations. We bought bulk Texas bluebonnets and New England wildflowers to mix together, to represent our two backgrounds coming together

Nice! We’re staying with the donation idea, since I can’t bear spending money on things 50% of people won’t touch or will leave behind.

Title! Title! LOL! Very cool favors, too :)

P.S. I once saw Flava Flav, he was behind me at LAX security for Southwest Airlines. He was awesome!

Lovely idea. I said something about probably skipping favors to my FMIL, and I swear her jaw dropped open and she started insisting I had to have favors, that SHE would take care of the favors if I didn’t. She seems to really have a thing for favors. At least she is inclined to have them be useful favors. (She started looking at luggage tags.)

My only issue with wildflowers would be considering where they’d grow. About half of the guest list will be coming from across the country where the climate is very different. Southern California wildflowers are not the same as Maryland/Pennsylvania ones. Suppose could do a mix, though, of half eastern and half western ones. They’re usually labeled nicely to indicate where they grow best.

Love it! I am still in favor hell! I hate the idea of spending the money on something that no one uses. I might have to look into these.
