Mrs. Brooch, Arlington, VA Age and Occupation: 25, Writer/Editor Fiance's Age and Occupation: 29, Front Desk Manager Engagement Date: October 3, 2009 Wedding Date: April 2011 Venue: Oxon Hill Manor About Me: I’m an indecisive girlie-girl with a motor mouth, can-do attitude, and knack for making others laugh. I dream of becoming a best selling novelist like Elizabeth Gilbert or Julie Powell (a girl can dream, right?), and love long road trips, a beautiful countryside, music, blogs, books, and all things vintage/thrift/antique/or homemade. I’m a Virgo, i.e. overly sensitive, emotional, and critical, and there’s no such thing as short and sweet in my world. I want to say and do it all. Mr. Brooch grounds me. I point where to go and he figures out the way. He’s a pragmatic fancy-pants who enjoys video games and movies. About Mrs. Brooch

Down to the Wire Details

January 21st, 2011 @ 2:46 pm by Mrs. Brooch

There are quite a few things I really wanted to buy early on in our planning. OK, no…there were A LOT of things I really wanted to buy. I wanted EVERYTHING: the photo booth, the chiavari chairs, the fabulous photographer, the organized planner, and all the details we see on the mainstream blogs each and every day; the Mr. and Mrs. signs, the aisle decor, the vintage furniture, wedding signs, and so much more. As we inch our way closer to the big day, however, we’re finding all these things aren’t in the budget. As a result, we’re left asking ourselves: What’s really important to us? What can we still afford to buy?

Jones Soda and Izze drinks made it on that list, if you can believe it! I’ll admit Mr. B thinks I’m a bit nuts for wanting soda most of his family has never heard of, but come on…think of the photos!

My original plan had been to buy enough for the whole guest list, so we can let everyone have an Izze or Jones soda. Remember all of the ones Mrs. Candy Corn had?

But alas, that would be more than our budget can bear and instead, we’re getting just one twelve pack of personalized Jones soda—probably for the wedding party ($30) and one six pack of Izze—probably for the junior bridal party (>$10). Sure, it’s not what I had in mind, but it’s a small detail that our photographer will hopefully catch on camera, make me happy, and not break our bank.

Napkins. Isn’t it funny what becomes oh-so-important in the months leading up to one’s wedding? Napkins? Really? Yes ma’am! I’ve ALWAYS wanted personalized napkins. I absolutely DIE every time I see a wedding picture of a napkin with a cute phrase or monogram on it. I LOVED Mrs. Cupcake’s Gocco Napkins, too. Remember them?

I’ve always had it in mind that ours would say something funny or catchy. Something that might describe the essence of our day or maybe our personalities. Well, we finally figured out what that phrase will be! Hopefully you don’t think it’s corny!

It comes from one of our favorite movies of ALL time. Seriously, Mr. B and I used to watch this movie over and over back in college. We’d always sing the words to all the different songs in it when nobody was around, too.

“Let’s GOOOO! Time’s a wastin’!”

Any guessers?

Yep. The story of the man in black, Mr. Johnny Cash.

It’s cute. It’s Southern. It’s love-inspired. And it’s what we’re going with! I would have loved to come up with something more clever, but I think this is perfectly fitting for us, honestly.

Parasols. I couldn’t resist. I had to have parasols. I know you guys saw Mrs. Hot Wings’: Hottie’s Strike a Pose, right? Did you read how her parasols doubled as bridal party props and ceremony decorations? She’s mentioned a number of times how glad she was she had those and I have to admit, I’m glad she did, too! The eye candy was SCRUMPTIOUS, don’t you think?

Ours won’t have fancy designs, but hopefully they will still do the trick! I plan on making one—the one and only green one we ordered—say “Thank You” using Mrs. Spring Roll’s tutorial! Yet another small detail that I think will make all the difference in the world!

What details matter the most to you? What details must you absolutely have?

If I were you I would reconsider singling anyone out for special drinks. If there are other kids than those in the junior wedding party, that’s a recipe for disaster. Even if not, what would you do if a guest saw your soda, thought she had missed it at the bar and said “Ooh! That looks good! Where are they?”

@therascalqueen: Well there are only going to be 5 kids total at our wedding, and one six pack will take care of them. As for the Jones Soda, maybe we could have it in the limo on the way to the venue or during portraits? That way other guests won’t be tempted… You make a great point! I will keep that in mind and think of a way around!

I LOVE your napkins! I might have to steal the line! My grandpa (who passed when my dad was just a boy) liked Johnny Cash and always went to see him when he came to town (in a little hick town in South Dakota)… I even have a few pictures of my grandpa and Mr. Cash back stage at some concerts!
LOVE, Love, love those napkins! It could be a small way to make an important person part of my day!

@Connie: YAY!!! I’m SOOO excited you love them and may do the same thing! I was kinda worried what people would think. We LOVE that movie AND Mr. Cash, so they’re perfect for us! Sounds like they’d be a perfect ode to your grandpa too! How cool to have pictures of them!!

Love the details! I was so in the same boat, and I think I might still be pining after chivari chairs. Somehow we’ll survive, right?

If you want personalized Jones soda but for less you can actually DIY it yourself. I found a tutorial on WeddingBee:
http://diy.weddingbee.com/topic/jones-soda-bottles

Then you just buy regular ol’ Jones soda and stick your labels over top!

I agree with you Miss Broach, I was trying for all the same things! I actually hand panted our parasols and made my own chair signs. But our splurge will be on the chiavari chairs :) I ish we could share items and cut the cost!

Those are some really great ideas. I love the Jones soda. And the napkins are adorable. DIY is the best though, if you are trying to save money. And it makes it much more special and unique. It reminds me of this movie I just saw called White Wedding. A woman plans this big expensive wedding with a flamboyant wedding planner and everything. But in the end, she brings her family together to create a beautiful wedding in her mother’s home. http://whiteweddingmovie.com/

Nice napkins! I’m in a bit of a DIY rut, so I think stamping some napkins might be my next project, then I’ll move on to something more.
Love the stripey straws (but personally, hate pop, so no sodas here!) and hope to use them in our wedding!
