Miss Oatmeal's Picture
Miss Oatmeal, Fresno, CA Age and Occupation: 25, Medical Device Sales Representative Fiance's Age and Occupation: 28, Police Officer/Captain in the US Army Engagement Date: February 16, 2010 Wedding Date: May 2011 Venue: Private Residence, Fresno About Me: I am a toast-loving, list-making, occasionally crazy California girl getting dangerously close to marrying her crime-fighting, patient, man's man fiancé. I’ve never left our hometown of Clovis, CA, I love Anthropologie so much it almost hurts, appreciate promptness, love that our 4lb. Chihuahua, Murphy, smells like Fritos, am irritated by windshield wipers that move too fast for the amount of rain, love me some cold weather, have an unhealthy obsession with boots, and wholeheartedly think that my family is everything. Mr. Oatmeal is, oddly enough, my brother's best friend. He's also the best thing that's ever happened to me, and together we are planning a vintage chic, backyard, spring wedding with a few nontraditional touches while trying to keep up with our crazy lives.
About Miss Oatmeal

A Collection

January 21st, 2011 @ 4:29 pm by Miss Oatmeal

Want to know the difference between Mr. Oatmeal and me? He has absolutely no idea why I feel it’s necessary to collect a crazy amount of Mason jars/milk glass vases/bottles for our wedding. But here’s the cool thing about it: I’ll get to make some of these little treasures a part of our home. I might be more excited about that than I am about using them in our wedding.

Here’s a peek at what I’ve collected so far, although I’m sure that’s a lie since I’ve definitely bought more since these pictures were taken.

Yikes, I know. But let’s be honest here: after looking at these pictures, I’m convinced that I don’t have nearly enough. Sixteen or seventeen tables? Plus a ton of other areas to spruce up?

So what’s that you see spelled out in the sweetest, most widely used mug in the history of weddings? (Just ask Miss French Toast!) S W E E T S. We’re putting those on our darling dessert bar! Too bad the individual letters don’t mean a thing to us. However, I will drink coffee out of them with a smile on my face for years to come.

Well, my next task is to separate all these little gems by table number and store them in boxes until May. But before I do that, I’ll need to set up a mock table. ***Adding to the to-do list riiiiight now.***

And this is me attempting to do calligraphy on our save the dates. Attempting is the key word there.

{All personal photos}

Do you like antique shopping enough to take on a task like this? Or did you get lucky and inherit your wedding decor from a friend. Or…do you totally hate Mason jars?

PS: A HUGE THANK YOU to all the Oatmeal friends and family who have helped out in the search for these bottles. You make my life easier!

Mmm…I’m eyeing that delicious looking Fenton cake stand in the center of it all. I’m terribly fond of those blue mason jars you’ve collected! Can’t wait to see your mock-up. :)

Sweet collection! My fiance keeps saying that milk glass is taking over our house, lol. Every time I come home with a new piece he asks, “Are you sure that’s for the wedding?” with a big smirk on his face.

Oh how I remember the days of collecting (almost) those exact same items! By the end those babies took up our entire storage room, and threatened to spill out into the rest of the house too! AND now I’m selling ‘em off (or incorporating ‘em into our house) much like you’re planning… If you wanna trek to LA you could inherit A LOT of milk glass! Lol.
:)

we go to flea markets, thrift stores, antique malls and garage sales on the regular. being serious lovers of all things old, it’s definitely a part of our life/home style so it made perfect sense for our wedding style to be the same. we’re getting to use a lot of treasures we already owned, but we still have added a bunch of aqua mason jars and soda crates to our ever growing collection. love your posts so far, miss oatmeal, i think we have a very similar aesthetic. :)

I also am doing the random eclectic glasses route. I find it much more personal and I love the hunt! Everytime I bring home a new jar I get so excited that I’m one step closer to being finished!

Love collecting/shopping for vases. We’re decorating our reception tables in clear and milk glass vases. I’ve had a blast grabbing a few here and there at thrift stores. My family has even gotten in on the fun! I’ve been putting them in plastic totes for now… it’ll be fun to unwrap them all closer to the big day.

We’re also collecting blue glass mason jars, vases, and clear glass jars. We’ve had fun looking through antique stores for them, and we’ve also used them to decorate our kitchen for now. There’s a long shelf of molding along the ceiling that they fit perfectly on, and I love looking at them because I’m always reminded of the wedding!

love it! I am lucky enough that my florist has HUNDREDS of blue mason jars and mercury glass vases, so I don’t have to collect, which is a blessing given that I live in a Manhattan apartment! I might buy a couple though, so that I can keep part of our wedding day decor in the house after the big day…
