Bowls and Bubbies

January 21st, 2011 @ 7:00 pm by Mrs. Panther

It’s been a crazy week, hive, but I just wanted to pop in and share a little bit of exciting news. Well, it’s exciting to me, anyway.

First of all, remember my desperate search for the perfect mercury glass or silver footed bowl? So many of you commented with great suggestions and links to amazing bowls! I found some really awesome options, and I also kept Googling. While searching for “mercury glass bowl,” I came up with this result many times:

It was exactly what I wanted, but it came as part of a Teleflora holiday arrangement for $60.

The bowl wasn’t available by itself. Or so I thought! Dun dun dunnnnnn. Turns out my florist saw these and also thought the mercury glass bowls would be perfect for wedding centerpieces. And as a Teleflora retailer, he was able to buy a bunch of them! So he’s hanging onto them for my wedding, and we’re good to go! So. Pumped.

And in other news, Mr. Panther and I finally gave in to our temptation to ask my aunt if her adorable little son (my cousin) could be our ring bearer. And she said yes!

Personal photo

Isn’t he the cutest?! Wondering why we’ve been waffling for so long? Well, he’s two. So he’ll only be two and a half at the wedding. Generally, I don’t trust any kids with important responsibilities, and he’s not even really technically a kid yet. He’s a baby! But then we got to hang out with him over Christmas, and gosh darnit, he’s just so cute. I’m really usually not a baby person, but I love him to death. We couldn’t resist! His nickname is Bubbies—hence the post title. I bet you Real Housewives of New Jersey fans thought this post would be about boobs! Sorry—maybe next time. So anyway, little Bubbies will be wearing a little tux and pretending to carry our rings down the aisle. That is, if he cooperates. And now, I get to search for ring bearer pillows!

I really didn’t expect to have one, so I haven’t done any looking at all. However, I have come across this one while stalking EmersonMade, of course.

I love it, but I’m not sure that we need to spend $68 on something that a) will not actually hold our rings, and b) will be carried around by a toddler. Guess I’ll continue the search!

We also need to find a tiny tuxedo that will be comfortable and cute for a little boy in summertime. I love this, but I think the vest is probably a bit much:

Has anyone else had a very young ring bearer or flower girl? Got any tips for keeping the youngster in line?

There was just a thread about this on the boards! You can see my ridiculously cute 2.5 year old cousin/ring bearer on page 2. :) http://boards.weddingbee.com/topic/is-almost-3-too-young

My cousin did a fabulous job. I had him walk down with my 4 year old flower girl cousin, who he knows well. (although apparently she sped up and got ahead of him coming down the aisle. whoops!) :)

He did wander into the aisle during the ceremony, but he was totally quiet, and made for cute pictures. I didn’t even realize he was in the aisle til I saw the pictures!

Do you have anyone who could walk down with him? At least you know he’ll still be totally cute even if he “messes up” or doesn’t make it down the aisle. I’d definitely give him a cheap, non breakable pillow. We gave ours dummy rings and a pillow to carry, and he dangled it at his side the whole walk down, haha. We still used a fancy ring bowl to show off the rings during our getting ready shots.

And all the Jews thought it was going to be about grandmas!

@mightywombat: Haha, I’m not Jewish, but I also thought grandmas! I’m from nyc so it’s a word I almost hear more often than grandmas. :)

My ring bearer turned 2 the week after our wedding. He stole the show and I’d “hire” him again in a heartbeat! Such cute photos.

We were going to give him fake rings then just decided at the last minute to tie the real ones on tight. His mom handed them off as he approached the aisle and told him to take them to the pastor.

He dumped the flower girls flowers and played in them during the ceremony - oops! I don’t think many people noticed but you might plan something appropriate to keep his hands busy once the ceremony begins.

Ack! He is so cute! Our ring bearer is going to be 3.5, but he did the job at his mom’s wedding at just barely two and was fantastic. Maybe have his mom on hand to coax him down the aisle? Congrats on finding the perfect bowls!

Even though by the time we get married, our RB will have just turned 4, he is still a handful, and a ham!
So we have started taking him to church with us on Sundays- which works out well since his family is also Catholic- and after the mass, having him walk down the isle to us. Of course we don’t do this EVERY weekend, but at least once a month so he gets used to the idea. Because the isle is SO long, we want to make sure he doesn’t get scared by all of the people and refuse to walk down.
If your wedding is in a church, I suggest letting him practice it a few times. I also agree with other comments that have been made suggesting you have something to keep him occupied during the ceremony. (We are going to have a few episodes of “Dino Dan” on our portable DVD player with headphones so he will be occupied).
Best of luck!

Eek! My ringbearer is going to be only a year and a half! Same with one of our flower girls. Her sister will be a little over 3 so hopefully the little one will follow her big sis!

Our ringbearer will only be 15 months at our wedding and he just started walking last week! He is the son of our really close friends and we wanted him to be a part of our day. Since he is so young, we decided whatever he does will be fine with us.

My flower girl will only be 14 months! EEK! Hopefully she is walking by then. One way or the other my sister in law will help get her down the aisle. She’s my niece so we really wanted her to be a part of our day.

Yay on getting your bowls! RB is too cute! My nephies were 2ish at my SIL’s wedding and one threw the pillow and himself on the floor. It was super cute, but I’m totally biased. Make sure to have a back up plan for someone to grab him if he gets gun-shy.

You mean that your florist just happened to have ordered the exact mercury vases you had been obsessing about online? That cannot be a coincidence, that is fate :-) Sometimes in wedding planning things just happen to fall together like that, it’s incredible

bribery works great to get little ones down the aisle and well behaved through out the ceremony. a promised toy car, or his favorite character toy. also have the parent receive them at the end of the aisle and sit near the front in the ceremony to keep them out of trouble…

i’m having my 3 yr old nephew as my ring bearer.. my sister is my moh, so i plan on having his dad remind him to be good and go to mommy at the front! though i’m toying with the idea of having his younger brother (he’ll be a 14 months by the time the wedding comes) go with him

oh yeah - our ringbearers will be just barely 3 and 4, one flower girl will just have turned 4, and a flower girl who will only be 18 months! the baby is my MOH’s daughter so I really wanted her name in the program, etc. but I already told my MOH if she doesn’t make it down the aisle I really don’t care. but I am hoping that having her mom in the wedding party will help coax her to walk down…we’ll see I suppose! haha

I’m making my ringbearer’s pillows using 2 pieces of fabric and some stichery witchery! I ordered large flowers off Etsy for $4 a piece and that’ll be it! Our ringbearer’s will both be 2 at the time of our wedding (one just turned 2 yesterday!).

I know you found your bowls but I was wandering about on etsy and found French Quarter Mercantile and couldn’t help but think of you!

My sister’s ringboys were 3 and 5, but the groom had shown them their “prizes” at the rehearsal dinner. Those big 5″ ranbow-colored lollipops (still wrapped in plastic). The groom had them stashed at the altar and when the boys began their walk, he took them out and the boys walked to him (slowly, they had practiced that part) but without wandering into the crowd or getting distracted by the cameras.

Once they were down, they got their treats and were sat in the second row - eah with an iPod touch set up with their favorite games and the volume turned off. Therr uncle (one of the only immediate family not in the bridal party) was in charge and sat between them. They were really well behaved.

For a two year old, just be sure you plan a nap for them. The day starts early and gets tiring very quickly - I can recall a two year old that passed out fifteen minutes before he was supposed to walk and had to be carried by his father for a 1pm ceremony a few years ago.
