Dinner was behind us and impromptu dancing had begun in the middle of the yard. People were demanding that Mr. G and I have a first dance so we looked at our iPod playlist and chose “Crazy Little Thing Called Love” by Elvis. It was a really awkward song to dance to and I wish we would’ve put a lot more thought into that spur-of-the-moment decision. We don’t have pictures either, except for this very blurry one taken by a guest.
The big hit of the night was “Lucky” by Jason Mraz and Colbie Caillat. Go figure!
Our last wedding business of the night was dessert. Our caterers brought out our cupcake tower and I suddenly had a great desire for sweets.

I had visions of grandeur that the week of the wedding: my friends and I would hunker down and bake fabulous cupcakes, cookies, pies, and small cakes for the wedding. That surely did not happen; we were too busy having fun all over L.A. So the day before the wedding, I went to a local grocery store’s bakery and picked up a whole bunch of baked goods. Classy, I know, but it worked out great. Everyone loved the variety of our spread and I proceeded to cut everything up for the taking.
After dessert, we had another impromptu event—my bouquet had been lying around all evening and there happened to be a lot of single ladies. We did a bouquet toss but the bouquet flew right over everyone’s heads! Bride fail! (We don’t have pictures of this either, sad panda!)
Because it was cold, my mom had pulled jackets and shawls for guests from the house. All those shawl posts on the ’bee are no joke because it would’ve been smart to have those out. The guests were cold and the evening was definitely winding down.
People started to say their goodbyes until there were only a few die-hards left. There was no sparkler send off for us! We decided to head to the local neighborhood bar (after I changed into jeans and a sweatshirt—after party dress fail!) and with that, our backyard wedding ended.
The caterers did a great job of wrapping up the food and somebody somewhere removed the linens from the tables and folded up the chairs. From the bar, Mr. G and I went to our hotel room for the night, ’cuz how weird would that have been to go back to my parents’ house, right? The next morning Mr. G and I proceeded to pick up hundreds of faux petals that had scattered all over the lawn and waited for the rental company to pick up everything. Tres chic!
It was a pretty anti-climatic ending to a fantastic night. I have to admit I’m suffering from Post Wedding Depression! But there it is, our $7,000, 40 person backyard wedding in all its simplicity, beauty, and fails.
It has truly been a pleasure sharing the Glasses wedding with you, hive. I have treasured every moment of Beedom, from your comments to the friendships I have made. I hope that my experience helps somebody out there as much as you have all helped me!
I have to admit that I’ll probably be around a lot. This definitely isn’t goodbye because I am hopelessly addicted to you. I’ll probably pop up all the time.
So you guys. What is up? What has everybody been up to? What is the hot gossip? Tell me everything. What is everyone listening to? What are the cool jams? You girls keep me so young, I love you so much!
So I will leave you with a “ja mata ne!”/”see you later!” and a kampai/cheers!
You can find me over at Kristin In America although to be honest I’m not sure what I’ll be doing with my blog because I’m really not that interesting.
Love you guys!
