Alternate blog title: Is 5 months enough time to learn to walk in heels?
Yep, I want to talk about shoes for a little while. I’ve avoided mentioning them the whole time I’ve been blogging, mainly because I hadn’t purchased a pair yet and had a few strict rules in mind for said purchase. Those rules included:
- They had to be affordable—the cheaper the better.
- They had to be a heel that wasn’t sky high.
- They had to be at least marginally comfortable: enough to make it through a long Catholic ceremony and time spent standing for photographs.
- They had to be grey, silver, or ivory and preferably with a peep-toe.
If you’re wondering why I had to give myself guidelines for something as simple as buying a pair of shoes for the wedding, you’re well within reason. Truth is, I’m not a big heel wearer.
I’m around 5’7 and I’ve never been big a big fan of them. And to make matters worse, after spending years of wearing sensible flats while teaching primary school kids, I’m even worse at wearing them now. I last around thirty minutes before I’m stuffed and end up kicking them off under the table and wishing I’d brought my thongs with me. (My thongs = your flip flops. Just clarifying!) As beautiful and drool-worthy as most wedding shoes these days are, I simply couldn’t justify spending hundreds of dollars on heels I’d end up feeling uncomfortable in—especially on such a loooong day.
That meant it was time to go shoe shopping on a budget. And that, while it can be frustrating at times, is something I can do. And I did do ~ hooray!

My shoes didn’t come in this box, but they live here for now. Ooh, the suspense!

Slingbacks with a fairly sensible heel? I’m intrigued!

Here they are! My shoes are silver peep-toes that have just a tiny bit of sparkle in them ala Edward Cullen’s dazzling sunlit chest.

Here’s a token foot shot of the shoes—I’m not a big fan of feet, so I’ll spare you and leave you with just this one. Believe it or not, they’re surprisingly comfortable.

And the best part is? They cost me $25 on sale at TARGET. 100% happy indeed! (All personal photos.)
You read that right: I bought my wedding shoes at Target, and I love them. They were wayyy below my budget (of around $50 if I was lucky) and they’re fabulous. Can’t ask for anything more than that!
How much did you budget for your wedding shoes?
