Mrs. Lox, Baltimore Age and Occupation: 33, Government Worker Fiance's Age and Occupation: 35. IT Consultant Engagement Date: May 8, 2010 Wedding Date: May 2011 Venue: Vandiver Inn About Me: I’m an East Coast gal born and bred and a suburban brat turned city rat for the last year. Now Mr. Lox and I enjoy walking all kinds of places, having the coolest things around in our backyard, and especially our garage parking. I love gadgets, toys, Ben & Jerry’s Chubby Hubby ice cream, monkeys, and our insane cats. I’m a blonde by birth and a redhead by choice. I’m that girl in the cubicle farm with all the cool toys and the file cabinet covered in magnetic poetry. I still use smiley faces in my emails, whether people like it or not. This is not the first rodeo for Mr. Lox nor me. And together, we are planning an intimate afternoon wedding on a budget we can afford by ourselves.

Bridal Shop Tour 2010: I Said Yes!

January 24th, 2011 @ 3:44 pm by Mrs. Lox

OK, so you all know where this is going, so let’s cut to the chase. After Mrs. M and I had all of our fun and games, it was time to bring in the big guns. That’s right—I’m talking about my mother.

Wait a minute. I have to take care of something before we continue…

Much better. Now where we we?

Right. Momma Lox and I picked a date, and it was time to take her back to the top picks. I called three of the places to make appointments (you’d never guess which three, believe me), but one place said the entire shop was closed because there was a show of some sort going on somewhere. I didn’t like the place much anyway (see, it was the last stop…you wouldn’t have thought that, right?), so I took it as a sign from the wedding-dress gods and I crossed that dress off my list.

And then there were three:

As soon as my mother saw the dress I eventually chose, I knew it was all over. However, it was the second one I showed her, and we still had to go look at the third. And in my mind, I was sure I was going out today to buy that third dress. So while I stood in the third dress (which was in a different shop than the second), I started to get upset. I understood what Mom was telling me, but I really wanted that third dress.

Momma Lox watched me starting to consider melting down. She said she wished the dresses were in the same shop so we could try them on one right after the other. That’s when it hit me! It was a stroke of genius. I am just that good. When I’m not melting down, at least.

Momma Lox had a picture of me in the other dress on her iPhone. I made her quickly take one of me in the third dress and then flip between them. One finger swipe was all it took. I stuck my tongue out at my mother and told her I hated her. She feigned innocence and asked what we were going to do. I told her we were driving back to the other shop and buying her favorite dress. She was like a little kid on Christmas morning. She was that excited I’d taken her advice. She told people about this for easily a month after it was over. She even showed pictures to my hairdresser before I could.

I know, I know…so what did I pick, right? Right. I’ve held off long enough.

So tell me—did I make the right choice?

I already knew this was the one you picked; I saw your post on the full figured boards awhile back but didnt want to ruin it for anyone else!
I LOVE THIS DRESS ON YOU!

In fact, since we have the same shape, this is one of the dresses I am trying on next month at my bridal fitting.

You look gorgeous!

@allee2388: Ha! I thought I’d flown under the radar with that one. Thanks for keeping my secret. ;)

@misslego: If you want, message me and I’l gleefully tell you what *all* the stops were.

@mg1363: Right? It seems so obvious now. But I was crazy attached to that lace detailing in the skirt. It blinded me. ;)

I tried on my 2 finalists at the same store and STILL had a hard time picking because I couldn’t see them directly next to each other. Then, like you, I realized we’d been snapping pics on my iPhone, so we swiped back and forth and back and forth until it was ridiculously clear that we’d found the right one. Love technology swooping in to save the day!

@Jonea: While the neckline and the ruching play into it, the key for me is that it hits at my natural waist. The vast majority of wedding dresses have dropped waists and therefore look like #3 did. Hitting where my waist actually is makes a *huge* difference!

@JillBill: Makes you wonder what we did before all this technology, doesn’t it? ;)

@everyone else - Thank you! :)

@Miss Lox:

This is exactly what I love, the natural waist dress is very under-done. I went to a Bridal fashion show this weekend and everydress was a drop waist, not flattering on me AT ALL…. But glad most people are doing it cause it makes natural waist dresses unique :)

Great choice! When I saw your other post before I thought, “why is she still trying on dresses? that’s her dress!” So glad you went back for it!
