Mrs. Prairie Dog, Cincinnati Age and Occupation: 24, Program Coordinator Fiance's Age and Occupation: 25, PhD/Biomedical Engineer Engagement Date: December 18, 2009 Wedding Date: May 2011 Venue: Glendale Lyceum About Me: I'm a pilgrim soul of a girl with a house full of books and a coffee addiction that could slay Juan Valdez. My life is a whirl of grammar correction, good music, glue-gunning, and two pets named Hazel and Winston Churchill. I'm marrying my high school boyfriend in a formal-ish spring affair, roughly themed: "Elizabeth Bennet crashes a party co-hosted by Jay Gatsby and Cath Kidston, and loves it."
About Mrs. Prairie Dog

My engagement ring has a split-shank, so it kind of already looks like two rings, like this one:

Clearly, a regular wedding band won’t sit flush. But…I don’t want a band that curves to fit the ring. I want to wear my wedding band by itself sometimes because…well, sometimes I am a simple gal. In fact, I would have been totally content with just a wedding band. (PDog says: “NOW YOU TELL ME.”)

In fact, the idea of an unadorned wedding band appeals to me. I blame The Count of Monte Cristo movie, when Mercedes ties a piece of twine around her finger and says, “I don’t need a ring. I don’t.”

Something about not needing embellishment is so romantic—a simple wedding band signifying a simple commitment: I will be your person, no matter what.

Sounds great, right? Enter Jane Lynch, who got hitched and made me fall in love with her ring:

Obsession.

Except…I don’t want the eternity band…only diamond weave about 1/2-3/4s of the way, so it can still be engraved. I decided this because I am high-maintenance and trying to make our jeweler’s life hard. Also, the more often I go in to make edits, the more often they will steam-clean my ring. All part of the plan, people.

I’ll probably wear my engagement ring on one hand and my wedding band on the other. When I mentioned this to my super-traditional mother, she gasped and said, “But…you…can’t.” I think I can. They’re both called the ring finger, aren’t they? I’m guessing we won’t magically be annulled if I mix and match ’em.

Anybody else going for a wedding band that doesn’t “go” with your engagement ring?

I’ve got bands as matchy-matchy as they come. My e-ring and band have the same openwork pattern on them. I found a different band that I really want though, so I might convince my FI that I need two wedding bands.

my e ring has curves to it, but I also wanted a plain wedding band to wear by itsself. Not even any diamonds. so, it will sit behind the e- ring, and I will live with the fact that it doesnt match and I am fine with it. I know a few people who wear on both fingers and it is lovely. its your set, wear the way you want.

A good friend of mine has a e-ring like yours.. but also a claddagh wedding ring as her band. She typically only wears the claddagh. But if she does wear her e-ring, it is on her right hand.

Hahaha, you CANT!
I love these scrolly wedding rings. I *also* love my ring though… but can I have one of these too? So classy!

Yeah! My beautiful purple sapphire engagement ring set in a split shank will be moving to my right hand so I can wear my simple, custom wedding band engraved with my man’s fingerprint by itself on my left hand. I could not be more thrilled about our wedding bands!

THAT’S MY RING!!! The second one looks just like my wedding band, and my engagement ring has the same band with a rock in the middle! One more reason to love Miss P-Dog and Sue Sylvester!

I looove those bands! My ring is a halo that is very low set so a regular band won’t sit flush either, so we are going matchy (FI didn’t love the idae of wearing my e-ring on my right hand oddly), but I still have a secret desire for one of the scroll/wreath-ish bands. Maybe for an anniversary… =)

I have a similar ring, and I opted to get two wedding bands to border each side. They are eternity bands and I can wear them without my engagement ring if i chose.

I LOVE the look of just a plain wedding band. In the jcrew catalog wedding section a couple of issues back that’s how they had the brides and I thought it looked so simple and elegant!

I wear my e-ring almost exclusively. I also have a titanium wedding band (durable) that I wear for activities that I’m afraid for my ring….running, climbing, camping…I love the idea of wearing them both, on different hands!

Everything about this post made me smile. A) The title. B) The ring. C) Your “Whatever-I’ll-Do-What-I-Want” attitude. Love your posts!

I’ve got mismatched bands as well. The wedding band “designed” to go with my ring sat against the setting oddly and was just too wide for my very small fingers. So, we went mismatched. I love it! I get so many compliments on how unique and funky my wedding band is.

I have several family members who began wearing their engagement rings on their right hand after they were married. They only wear the wedding band on their left hand. The rings are only a symbol of the commitment anyway. Wear them anyway you like. :)

I love those twisty scrolly bands! My set is pretty matchy, but I still mix it up and sometimes wear my wedding band on my right hand, just for fun!

PDog! I’m planning to switch my e-ring over to my right hand when I get MY scrolly wedding band mess figured out. Hammy & Pencils wear theirs on their right hands, too. And that’s how Octo Cs it!
