Mrs. Lox, Baltimore Age and Occupation: 33, Government Worker Fiance's Age and Occupation: 35. IT Consultant Engagement Date: May 8, 2010 Wedding Date: May 2011 Venue: Vandiver Inn About Me: I’m an East Coast gal born and bred and a suburban brat turned city rat for the last year. Now Mr. Lox and I enjoy walking all kinds of places, having the coolest things around in our backyard, and especially our garage parking. I love gadgets, toys, Ben & Jerry’s Chubby Hubby ice cream, monkeys, and our insane cats. I’m a blonde by birth and a redhead by choice. I’m that girl in the cubicle farm with all the cool toys and the file cabinet covered in magnetic poetry. I still use smiley faces in my emails, whether people like it or not. This is not the first rodeo for Mr. Lox nor me. And together, we are planning an intimate afternoon wedding on a budget we can afford by ourselves.
About Mrs. Lox

Well Color Me…Something

January 25th, 2011 @ 2:42 pm by Mrs. Lox

I remember some of the first wedding discussions Mr. Lox and I had. First we talked about what kind of wedding we wanted. After we decided on a small-ish, less formal affair for our small family and mostly friends, he thought we were done. My next question was, “What colors do you think we should have?” And Mr. Lox just kind of blinked at me. “Does our wedding really need to have colors?” he asked me. I looked at his kind of annoyed face and said I supposed they didn’t. And we didn’t discuss the wedding for a couple of weeks.

The thing is, planning a wedding without any idea of colors is…well…hard. How do you know what kinds of invitations to buy? What do your flowers look like? How do you coordinate things? I mean, I’m sure there’s a way to do it all beautifully, but I’m simply not that cool. We needed colors. This time, I approached Mr. Lox with the reasons our wedding needed colors. He seemed to agree. So I went off in search of inspiration. I came up with things like this:

Well Color Me…Something : wedding baltimore color schemes Lox12 lox1

Look how happy this room is. (source)

Well Color Me…Something : wedding baltimore color schemes Lox22 lox2

Here’s a more sedate version, but look how lovely the napkin and menu card are. (source)

Well Color Me…Something : wedding baltimore color schemes Lox31 lox3

If these weren’t more money than I wanted to spend, I would have already ordered these invitations. (source)

Well Color Me…Something : wedding baltimore color schemes Lox4 lox4

I swear I’m giving this picture to my baker during our tasting. (source)

I even found full inspiration boards:

Well Color Me…Something : wedding baltimore color schemes Lox51 lox5

If you didn’t get the hint before, I’m sure you have now. PS: Look closely at this to see the way the napkins are folded. D’oh! (source)

Clearly I had a well-formed idea of what I wanted. Lucky for me, orange is Mr. Lox’s favorite color. So not only am I madly in love with a pink and orange (fuschia and tangerine?) wedding, but he loves it too! Presenting this to him went very smoothly, and without any pain or loss of blood, we had our wedding colors.

How did you pick your colors? Or did you successfully decide not to have colors at all?

there is no such thing as a wedding with no colors. even if it’s all white then THAT’s you’re palette - just white. even if there’s every color of the rainbow then, again, THAT’s your palette. this is not the first time a bee has posted about her FI not understanding the concept of colors… it’s not surprising why guys don’t get all the aspects of wedding planning, but it’s pretty baffling to me why you would even listen to him. for all the very obvious reasons you list here, you have to choose a palette. i went with a similar palette of pink and orange too! not super bride shades, more coral pink and softer orange. with accents of gold and lots of white. it was gorgeous!

I can relate here, haha. My wedding will be very simple as well, but smaller & intimate w/ only family. It’s still 10 months away & doesn’t require much planning, but I can’t help myself! About 2 weeks in after being engaged & still almost a year to plan, I learned that my fiance does NOT want to discuss details ( like colors) haha- he basically wants to be informed of what is expected of him, what to wear, etc. So I stopped yammering on about it awhile ago & just accepted that it’s pretty normal for him not to be interested in things like decorations. In fact, I’ve come to appreciate the fact that I can pick everything myself! I love the combo of pink and orange, and that cake is AWESOME! Congrats :)

We used a similar color palette - a bit more muted (more peachy oranges) and we also used yellow. It made everything really cheerful and was perfect for flowers. I actually picked all of our colors around the butterfly hairpiece I wanted to wear, which was orange.

I am in love with your whole wedding haha! I have always wanted to do orange and pink, with touches of lime green! But seeing as I will probably get married in the winter I think Im going with Pink and Navy for a less summer-y option. I will have to decorate a room in my house pink and orange one day to get over with the obsession haha, love it!

I love your colour combination! so fun!

we picked navy and blush pink because he likes navy and i like pink…. it was easy! We did toy with the idea early on of just white and grey, but that didn’t last long because i looove colour.

We (let’s be fair… I) went back and forth on colors a couple times. I knew flowers immediately, but had trouble deciding what colors to run with for the bridesmaids. I scoured websites and magazines to try and find the right feel for our wedding. It took some digging, but eventually we got there!

I love bright colors :-)

Not technically planning yet (and still unsure if we want a wedding or a courthouse ceremony), and initially it was going to be purple and something else….but after 3 sisters used it, I’ve decided that even though it’s been my fave color since I was 5, I want to go a different route. Purple shoes will be my tribute to my favorite color.

Also, my s/o decided he wants Red Sox colors. sigh. However….to make it seem less patriotic looking, the girls will have a lighter color of blue, and the boys navy.
