Finally, a Card Box!

January 26th, 2011 @ 5:53 pm by Mrs. Giraffe

Hive, do you remember the card box I had started, but hadn’t finished? Probably not, because I had started it even before you had seen it, way back during the summer. It then sat in my basement for…ummmm…a few months until I started to freak out about our deadline—oops, I mean timeline. While Daddy G, Mama Giraffe, and Sis Gee yelled at the Bears/Packers game behind me, I decided to get things done!

So, are you finally ready for the finished product? I’m sure you’ve all been dying for the final result. ;)

So, it’s done. That means something, right?

I’ll be honest, I don’t love it. I don’t hate it either, but it’s kind of ’eh’ in my mind. It looks a little sloppy, the colors aren’t perfect, the blue sticker letters are the wrong shade of blue, but I already had them and didn’t feel like going out and buying new ones.

It’s not awful, I guess, and I don’t dislike it enough to start over, so I think I’m just going to go with it. Even if it doesn’t look perfect, it actually feels good to cross something off of my giant/enormous/bigger-than-a-house to do list. I’m just going to go with it.

Any wedding projects not come out perfect for you guys? Did you use them anyway?

There have definitely been some projects that didn’t come out great for me. Some of them I started over, others I just said good enough :)

I’m a big fan of the ‘good enough’ approach. Most people either won’t notice or won’t care.
I think your card box looks good, the opening with the dots is especially cute.

*that should read:
people won’t notice or won’t care what I (inevitably) screw up.

I tried to make a hair flower that totally bombed! I won’t be using it but mostly because now that my dress came in they don’t even match even though they are both diamond white.

I definitely had projects where I had to just leave well enough alone. It takes a strong mind to do that… good for you. Go attack another project.

“Meh” is how I felt about our ceremony programs but once I saw them there I loved them. Maybe that will happen to you?

BTW I like it!! :-P

I felt liek that with our centerpieces, but they fit the budget, so they worked for us. I think every diy bride goes through a project or two with this feeling.

I think it looks great!

Our card “box” was a decor item, sort of an oversized coffee cup made of iron or something (that sounds really weird when put into words - but it was cute!), and I wanted to make a little sign to attach to it that said “Cards.” So I layered some cardstock and used the press on letters, and it looked terrrible. The letters were crooked and unevenly spaced. But by that time, it was definitely on my F*** it List. And I don’t think a single person noticed.
