I always loved the idea of Mr. Socks and I writing letters to each other on our wedding day, just so we could keep them and remember how excited and happy we were on our wedding day. Plus, I was kinda just in love with the idea of getting a love letter on my wedding day, so I told Mr. Socks to write me a letter.
A few days before the wedding, here’s how that conversation went:
Mrs. Socks: Honey, have you gotten stationery for the letter you’re going to write me on our wedding day?
Mr. Socks: What letter? What’s stationery?
Mrs. Socks: I told you about how awesome it is to have love letters for each other on our wedding day! It just has to be a nice piece of paper.
Mr. Socks: Do I have, like, a minimum word requirement?
Mrs. Socks: Sigh.
Sooo…Mr. Socks didn’t really get it. But I pressed on with the plans anyway because darn it, I was determined to get lovely pictures of us opening letters and getting emotional, saving them for our grandchildren, etc, etc.
I got a fresh box of stationery for my letter to Mr. Socks and got to writing the morning of our wedding. I had Sister Socks deliver the letter to Mr. Socks:

Doesn’t she look gorgeous? And TJ in the background is such a ham!

Okay, so he didn’t get emotional reading the letter, but at least we get to keep it forever, right?
Well…um. No. We never found the letter after going through all of our wedding stuff, so I think the beautiful letter I was so adamant about is lost forever. The children and grandchildren that I pictured reading and treasuring this letter…well, they’ll never see it.
Bah! So then when it came time to open my letter from Mr. Socks, I completely forgot about it until our photographer left the room to find a place for us to do our first look.
Georgi’s assistant took the pictures with my Nikon D60, but my camera quality is just not the same…

I didn’t read it out loud, but it was a very touching card with a lovely note inside that reflected many of the same sentiments that I wrote in his letter!

I forget what was funny, but apparently, there was something that tickled me about it! I was expecting waves of tears, not giggles!
So okay, my beautiful vision of letters and emotions and keeping them forever didn’t seem to work out. Oh well. We tried, and it was still a wonderful thing to do for each other. Writing notes of kindness and love is always a good idea, and if it wasn’t captured exactly as I had imagined it, who cares? We still wrote beautiful words to each other and I’m so happy we did it.
