Mrs. Eggs Benedict, Seattle Age and Occupation: 29, Attorney Fiance's Age and Occupation: 35, Attorney Engagement Date: December 5, 2009 Wedding Date: February 2011 Venue: IslandWood About Me: I'm a Northwest girl who spends my time goofing around with Mr. Eggs Benedict and our dog, hiking, traveling, drinking wine and planning a wedding that will showcase the best of what the Pacific Northwest has to offer. I also love photography, beating Mr. Eggs Bene at Mario Kart, and watching the most ridiculous natural disaster flicks you can think of (seriously, how can you deny the awesomeness that is The Core or 2012?? That's right, you can't). We are planning our weekend wedding adventure at an environmental educational center, and I can't wait for the fun to begin!
About Mrs. Eggs Benedict

A Belated Honeymoon

January 26th, 2011 @ 2:54 pm by Mrs. Eggs Benedict

I’m not sure if any of you have noticed, but I haven’t talked about what we’re doing for our honeymoon. The reason is because we aren’t really going to be taking one. At least not right away. See, Mr. EB is in school this year, and our wedding will be about three weeks before his finals for winter quarter. Not exactly the best time to fly off for a couple of weeks on a tropical honeymoon. Also, money is really tight for us right now, so there’s no way that we can afford the type of trip that we’d like to take. So instead of planning a trip to Bora Bora or the British Virgin Islands or the Seychelles (three of the places that are highest on my honeymoon wishlist), I’ll be drooling over all the amazing beachy honeymoons I get to see online.

Now, this isn’t to say that Mr. EB and I are planning on going back to real life immediately after the wedding. We’re definitely going to take at least a few days to relax and unwind after the whirlwind of the wedding weekend. We aren’t positive what we’re going to do yet, but we do have a couple of ideas.

First we thought about renting a cabin on the Washington or Oregon coast.

It wouldn’t be a super long drive from Seattle, and since the wedding is in February it’ll be the off season for most rentals on the coast. I love the beach in the winter time, and visions of the waves crashing on the beach and rain beating at the windows while Mr. EB and I sip on champagne in a cozy little house with a fire burning in the background sounded perfect.

Another thought we had was to drive up to the mountains somewhere.

We could have the same cozy atmosphere with a fire, but instead of crashing waves, snowy woods would be our view as we sip our champagne. (Yes, there will be champagne whatever we decide to do. What? It’s my favorite!).

The problem with both of these ideas is the travel time—sure it would probably only take about three or four hours of driving time, but what if we could do something that wouldn’t require much travel at all?

And that’s when we thought about finding a nice hotel and staying right in Seattle, no travel required.

There are so many beautiful hotels in downtown Seattle, and it would be pretty nice not to have to spend a long time getting somewhere (especially since we’ll probably only have about three days no matter what we decide to do). And we both love the idea of holing up in our home town (but not our own home—we both feel really strongly that we want to stay somewhere else and enjoy a little bit of a transition back to real life). We can wander Pike Place Market, eating our way through all of the delicious food, or just watch the rain fall outside our hotel windows (yes, while enjoying champagne, of course!). And if there’s a big bathtub and fireplace, so much the better!

We’re still figuring out exactly what we’ll do, but we feel better having a few different options that all sound like a really fun time. Because really? When it comes down to it, we just want a space where we can be together with no one else around. And then we can start planning what will be our ridiculously awesome one-year-anniversary trip. Because Mr. EB and I decided that if we have a short and simple trip now, then we can do something a little bit bigger (and hopefully warmer!) in a year.

Anyone else decide to take a one-year-anniversary trip instead of a honeymoon right after the wedding? (And if you say you got to do both, well, just color me green with envy!)

That’s what we are doing too! We can’t afford a honeymoon right after the wedding so we are just staying a couple extra days in our wedding city then going for the big trip on our 1 year anniversary!

I have to say I was happy to read this! We are choosing a similar option as well. After the wedding we are planning a “Mini-Moon” somewhere local to get away for a few days and treat ourselves to something special, but not over the top costly. I started a new job recently so my time off situation is tight and I get 2 weeks off at the end of the year, so we are postponing the real deal till then. We are thinking of something tropical, say St. Lucia or anywhere of the like. I feel like this has lots of advantages- I have a fabulous trip to look forward to after the wedding excitement dies down, I get to go away somewhere AMAZING and warm during our winter closure and get out of town then! AND– if we (hopefully more like “when we” get some money from the wedding gifts, it can offset some of our costs!
Also, we get 2 trips, and who doesn’t love that!

Seattle is one of my favorite cities in the states! My FI and I visited there a few years ago and if you are at all interested in a B&B across from a beautiful lake about 10 mins outside of the city center, then you have to look into Greenlake Guesthouse - the place was beautiful and the people who run it were so friendly. I know B&B’s aren’t everyones thing but this was first class B&B! (Plus some of the rooms have fireplaces and heated tile bathrooms) Very Romantic… on a side note we haven’t booked our honyemoon yet but are really looking into the Seychelles!

I love the cabin ideas!!! How amazing to think of a snowed-in weekend with nothing but the two of you, champagne and a fire in the fireplace. Sounds like heaven to me!

We are also thinking of staying close to home, possibly the Oregon Coast or a wine tasting “mini moon” in Carlton, The Allison is gorgeous and I probably wouldn’t want to leave the room! Our ultimate honeymoon would be in Ireland, but that is not in the cards right now.

We are going to do a local mini-moon and then do our honeymoon about six months after the wedding. Still lets us relax, but we will also be able to save up and have the honeymoon we really want!

We do this for anniversaries. For our 2 year dating anniversary we went an hour out of town and got a nice hotel room and lounged around. It really is the best way to celebrate!

We eloped and went to the courthouse here in Seattle with two of our friends. I was in the middle of finals, so we ended up just spending the night at Hotel 1000 to celebrate and taking our honeymoon trip later in the year. We’ve already made reservations to spend our 1st anniversary at Hotel 1000 too. I loved the hotel, I loved our room (and the tub was great!), I loved spending the down wandering around downtown and Pike Place and I’m really really looking forward to our stay this year. I would recommend it whole-heartedly.

We took a mini-moon to DC and are planning our “close to one-year anniversary” honeymoon to New Zealand! I think staying in downtown and having a romantic hotel stay sounds great, as would a cabin adventure! There have been some pretty great groupon/livingsocial vacation deals for local cabins recently, make sure to check those out!

We did a honeymoon, but it was so much like every vacation we’ve ever done (drive up the coast… again?!) that we’d really like to take a bigger trip. Not this anniversary, unfortunately. :(

Your three options are all so amazing, though! I’d probably drive a little bit out of the way if it were me, though. :) You don’t want to run into anyone around town on your three-day mini-moon!

I have several friends who did a small get-away after the wedding and are planning bigger trips for their first anniversary. I know they were happy to have a couple days away and now are looking forward to the bigger trip!

I can’t wait to hear what you decide! FH and I will be mini-mooning in Seattle-due to new jobs, moving across the country (TO Seattle), etc…so excited to see what you and yours do!

Mrs. Husky’s in-laws are supposed to have a beautiful cabin in Washington State (I think) that they rent out. She mentions it in her honeymoon post.

That is exactly what we are doing. FI is a teacher, so unless we have a summer wedding, which neither of us want (gross humid NC weather anyone?) then we have to postpone the honeymoon. So we will be getting married and then having a short weekend getaway, then going on a trip next summer. :D
