As our wedding was approaching and the ten day forecast became available, people started asking what the weather would be like on the day of our wedding. I told them I didn’t know. I was refusing to check it until we got closer in. Although, I did a lot of praying the weeks leading up to our wedding. I said over and over I didn’t care if it rained every day surrounding our wedding, all I wanted was a nice wedding day—actually, at some point, I even hoped for “decent.”
At about the five day mark, I caved and looked at the forecast. I couldn’t believe what I saw. I felt like it was a cruel joke to get my hopes up.
Tuesday- rain
Wednesday- rain
Thursday- rain
Friday- rain
Saturday (our wedding day)- sunshine
Sunday- rain
Monday- rain
Tuesday- rain
Wednesday- rain
Thursday- rain
You may remember that I was pretty set on thinking it would rain on our wedding day. I went so far as to purchase seven matching umbrellas for my bridesmaids and an oversized alma mater umbrella for me and Mr. S.
I felt like the forecast was kind of mocking me. I just couldn’t believe that it would stay that way. If every day surrounding our wedding was set to rain, of course it would end up shifting and we’d end up with rain on the wedding day. I chose not to believe the weather report. So whenever someone told me that our wedding day was supposed to be beautiful, I kind of cringed hoping they wouldn’t jinx it. I also went off about how the weather reports are often wrong and there is now way it was going to be sunny.
I did a lot of wood knocking the week before our wedding. Anytime someone said it would be beautiful, I immediately found a piece of wood.
The morning of our wedding, I woke up afraid to open the shades, but I made myself do it so I’d know what I was in for. As my phone alarm sounded, I slowly made my way to the window and pulled back the shades. As I pulled them open, I was greeted by blue skies and sunshine.
Weather.com was right! I woke up Mr. Starfish to tell him the unbelievable news and I think he said, “yay, I told you so,” and fell back asleep.
Did I mention that we ended up staying in our wedding suite together the night before the wedding? I may have been superstitious about the weather, but I wasn’t superstitious about this. Go figure?
Do you plan to check the 10 day forecast before your wedding?
