Well, I was officially confused with dress prospects, so it was time to actually try a few on. Some were good, some were bad, and some were just, well, ugly. Look and laugh with me. We quickly realized that since I’m super short-waisted, I needed to shy away from anything without a dropped waist. I won’t even show you those pictures because I’m not putting pics that bad of me on the Interwebz.
I’ll start with the ones that definitely didn’t make the cut…please don’t laugh at me too much!

Maggie Sottero’s Rhianna Royale: I thought it would be a front runner, but those beautiful little flowers look like weird cotton balls in pictures. Plus, I’m so flat chested that I need a bit of a sweetheart neckline. Sorry, Maggie, you’ll have to try again.
Creepy doll hands!
Maggie Sottero Rowena: I don’t know what’s going on with that neckline, but it’s not flattering on me! It kind of reminds me of when I tucked down my bra straps because I couldn’t find a clean strapless bra to wear with a dress…BAD IDEA, let me tell you. It ends up looking like this, haha.
Eh…nice…but just not for me. I’m also partial to corsets.
I love this style and the shape it gives me. But it just wasn’t it…
I want to suck your blood!! And…marry you. Yeah, all-lace dresses do not flatter me. The bridal consultant nicely said, “It seems to overpower you.” I said, “It looks like I gained 20 pounds in 1.5 minutes.” The vampiress collar doesn’t help either…but it would be PERFECT for a Twilight-themed wedding! Come on…I know someone out there’s doing it…
OK, away from the bad and the ugly—let’s move on to the good. And we know what this means:
Maggie Sottero Ambrosia, my first love. It looks a little flat in these pictures…partially because it’s missing the flowers. Why did they take those off??? I still don’t understand. Plus one of the consultants said that this one was “unflattering” on me. Well, I tried it on again at a different store, and I’m not sure why, but it looked a lot better. *shakes fist at consultant*
Here was my front runner at this store, the Maggie Sottero Sabelle. The only thing it was missing was pickups in the back, and I wasn’t big on the excessive beading on the bodice. Here are some more pictures:
Yes it is veryvery pretty, but it had those two minor flaws.
Anywho, my mother and I went in to try on some gowns at another store in Pittsburgh. This store had some more brands, including some higher end stuff, and I figured at least I’d see some more variety. We were geniuses and didn’t bring our camera that day, so you will just have to imagine. Imagining is fun.
First, we once again tried on Ambrosia. It was beautiful, Mom loved it…all was good.
Then, we tried on a dress that looked just like this:
It was very pretty…but just wasn’t it. Definitely wasn’t it. That was disappointing because, well, I love this dress. It just didn’t do it for me. Oh well.
Then we tried on this number, a Saison Blanche. It was a real bargain, and my mother thought it was much much more expensive than what it actually was. (She thought it was $6K and was freaking out because she loved it!) I liked it, but it was something I wouldn’t have originally thought of for myself due to the amount of bling on the front.
When I went out front, a mother of another bride was on the phone and saying how she wanted to start crying because a bride just came out that looked so stunning. OK, so then I realized that maybe I should consider it.
I couldn’t “say yes to the dress” until I tried the Sabelle on for my mother. She personally liked both the Ambrosia and the Saison more. I put the Saison on again, and we both came to the conclusion that it was very elegant but different. The other dresses were great, but once you got over all the detail, they were just a bit much. Also, no one was trying this one on, but those Maggies are front runners for many brides.
The only problems with the Saison? No sweetheart neckline and no corset. Well, we discovered that they can put the sweetheart in for me for the lowlow price of $200! As for the corset…we’d lose some detail in the back by doing that. It has buttons, which are nice, but a corset will not be happening. It’s OK. Really. I’ve let it go.
My mother and I pulled the trigger and bought the dress. Finally, my dress confusion was over!
I’ll include some pictures of it that we took while BM dress hunting for BM A’s wedding. (Yes, I visited my dress while BM-dress shopping.)
Kissy face?
Happy face!
Ugh, weird doll hands again
Angry?
Happy
OK, dress looks good. Me want food!
I’m a little worried because we had to order a dress two sizes larger than my hips and bust to accomodate my waistline. I guess I’m kind of built like a block. I’m apprehensive that I’ll lose too many crystals when we take it in and it will look weird.
Did you guys buy a dress you didn’t even think to look at on the rack, or did you know what you were going to get before you even set foot in a store?
