I Fail at Shoe…

January 27th, 2011 @ 3:13 pm by Mrs. Biscuit

It took me quite a bit of time to find the perfect wedding shoe and, I admit, I was very clueless when I began to look. As much as I like color, I was afraid that a colored shoe would clash with my dress. Don’t remember what my dress looks like? Here’s a refresher.

Now, I’ll let you in on a little secret: I’m really not a shoe person. Especially heels. I have worn the same style of black pointy-toed three-inch pumps from Nine West for every classy occasion since I was 18 years old. When one pair wore out, I just bought a new pair that was exactly the same. Yup, I’m that girl. Here’s another secret: I have super ugly feet. I mean, my toes are weird. There’s one that’s not totally straight, and they’re kind of chubby. OK, now that I’ve fully disclosed my issues: on to the shoes.

As much as I would love a pair of Louboutins to cherish forever, I can’t justify the cost. I recently bought a pair of gold Nina Culvers for a wedding and, at a tenth of the cost of a designer shoe, the price was right.

I realize that the gold would look weird with my dress. However, they have them in ivory!

I know what you’re thinking: Hey, Miss B. These shoes are great but, well, they’re a little boring. That’s where Etsy steps in…enter: shoe clips!

How cute are these? Well, I felt like I had finally made an executive decision on my shoes. But how could things be so easy whilst wedding planning? They can’t. I was carousing the Nina site, continuing my search, and saw the words that cut through my original plans with a machete:

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! Of course, I had to play around with this and created these beauties:

So whimsical and fun! And, well, I’m sure some of you think they are pretty ugly. They’re not for everybody, but they are something fun to wear on the big day. These weren’t the shoes I eventually went with, but I still think they’re great!

Are you going the colored-shoe route, the completely wacky mismatched colored-shoe route, or sticking to tradition with an ivory or white shoe?

I think I’m going to wear blue shoes and the Nina Culvers are actually at the top of my list right now. I haven’t ordered them yet though.

I just kept coming back to those Ninas - cheap(ish) and pretty and simple and looked comfy. So I finally bit the bullet and ordered them in white. They got here yesterday and I’m so psyched. Going to an indie-bridal expo this weekend so maybe I’ll look for a shoe clip to liven them up - but even without they look good.

Oh I love this post! :)

I am getting married in 3 months…have my 1st dress fitting in 1 1/2 months and I still don’t have my shoes! :(

I forever wanted purple shoes…and while I still want them, not sure it’s going to happen for me. I was a bit ‘meh’ about me personally having to get ivory shoes as I don’t think I’d get to wear them again…but THEN I saw your post of the Etsy seller w. the rainbow floral shoe clips! I have a floral like hair barrette that I’m hoping to wear as my ’something borrowed’ from my Mom..and believe the shoe clips would be perfect….
So, now I may just go the ivory shoe route w. shoe clips..
Aww…thanks for sharing! I feel revived again in my shoe search! THANKS!

I remember Miss Lioness posting about her design-your-own Ninas, and she brought up a good point. She tried on the store version of the shoe to make sure it was sized properly and comfortable before taking the non-returnable, customized plunge.

I love your gusto with the colors!

Oh my god you and I are shoe twins! Not wedding shoes, but for the past 3 years since I’ve started working in the office world and have been wearing heels, I have been wearing, wearing-out, and re-buying the same exact style of plain black Nine West 3 inch pumps! I can usually find the same pair at Marshalls on sale each season for $20.00! Can’t beat that! :)

I bought those Ninas in raspberry for my wedding shoes! I am going to try on my dress again today now that the bustle is finished and I’m bringing those shoes :)

Um, I love “ugly” shoes. It’s one of my weird things. Those shoes are not ugly, but I do love them.

I went to the Zappo’s outlet in Shepardsville KY this weekend, and they a bunch of these in ivory for 70% off! =) Basically, any shoe that gets returned for whatever reason gets resold there for a huge discount. It might be worth the trip for you!

haha… I thought at the beginning of your post that we were shoe twins! I bought the ivory Nina Culvers, and am ordering a custom shoe clip from b.poetic on Etsy. I can’t wait! I guess I’m more of a traditional gal :)

Definitely going with a colored shoe. I think this is one of my favorite new wedding trends.
