My Dream Wedding

January 27th, 2011 @ 12:18 pm by Mrs. Prairie Dog

For me, there is no such thing. At least, not in the way you normally hear it talked about on TLC.

I mean sure, when I was younger I dreamed up wedding ideas, but they all involved Lisa Frank invitations, Prince Charmont as the groom and Book-It Personal Pan Pizzas at the reception. All great ideas that I grew out of. (Except Char. Sorry Mr. PD.)

There are a hundred weddings that could be a dream wedding for me. Destination wedding on the sandy beaches of Cape Cod? Dream wedding. A simple, romantic courthouse wedding? Dream wedding. Full-scale, luxury production? I could make it into a dream wedding. If any of these made the most sense for our guests, our budget, our life, then that’s probably what we’d be doing.

I don’t have One Set Dream Way of doing any specific element of my wedding. I could have dreamed up plenty of color schemes. Plenty of invitation suites, venues, food. Winter, summer, fall. Details.

Even the dress.

The only way that my dress is The One is that it does happen to be the one wedding dress that I will wear. I’m sure I could have combed through for other dresses that could have suited me, that I would have loved. There will likely be dresses created in futures fashion lines that I would have chosen OVER my wedding dress had they been available at the time. Same goes for bridesmaid dresses. I made the decision based on what they like, what was comfortable/flattering, and the time-line I needed to decide within. That’s it. They’re great. But they’re just dresses.

My dream wedding? Mr. PD + me. Family and friends and love and laughter. Good food and dancing and hugging and more love. That’s it, my friends. That’s the dream. Everything else is just details. (And that is good for me to remember when I am neck-deep in details.)

Anyone else not really have a ’dream wedding’ already set in their mind?

I agree with you, when I’m stressed about details I need to just sit back and realize it’s truly only about the end result… him and I finally being married. My ‘dream’ wedding still seems to change from day to day and I haven’t fully committed to any one color scheme or even place for that matter… I think my guy has a better idea of what he wants than I do and I’ve been thinking about this day since I was 10.

your reference to “Book It Personal Pan Pizzas” is AMAZING. I thought my sisters and I were the only ones who did that lol

I get you, PD. Totally never had that feeling. And now, all I want is a wedding where we can enjoy ourselves with friends and family.

I love your posts, PD :) I feel like I never really had a vision of a perfect wedding. I knew I wanted a big fairytale wedding, but never really imagined the details. Not even in the days (years!) I was waiting. Part of why I think I’m enjoying planning my wedding so much now is that we’re creating the “perfect” wedding as we go along :) And I’m loving everything we’ve come up with so far!

I completely agree (: my dream wedding consists of FI and I getting married surrounded by our families and closest friends. I actually just want the ceremony, I’d rather not have a reception haha

Oh me too! I never really fantasized about my wedding - except insofar as imagining all my best friends around me as bridesmaids. And now, of course, I’m not having a wedding party at all! Ha. Too many good friends to choose from. But they’re going to be around me anyway, even if they’re not all wearing the same dress.

Awww good post.
For me…I’ve always just wanted it to be a really great party with family and friends, and lots of food+cake.
OH, and my dream groom too :)
Honestly, I think that a ‘dream wedding’ is just what you make it. As long as you’re happy at the end of the day, then that makes it a dream come true!

LOVE that you referenced Book It! I totally had a “dream wedding” when I was younger…and I’m actually having pretty much the exact opposite! But it’s what WE consider our dream wedding now…not what I imagined as a 15 year old, so it’s actually way more perfect. =)

Is it just me or do personal pan pizzas still sound like the making of an AWESOME reception? hmmm….

I completely agree. I never dreamed about my wedding as a little girl and I’m often made to feel guilty for the fact that I genuinely don’t care about lots of things, or want to deal with them. Based on that, I’m foregoing tradition in lots of ways, and generally just trying to get through the whole wedding thing. I’m more excited about my marriage than I am the act of planning for a “perfect” day that I feel like doesn’t exist.
