I’m that girl in the cubicle farm with all the cool toys and the file cabinet covered in magnetic poetry. I still use smiley faces in my emails, whether people like it or not. About Mrs. Lox

Petals and Stuff

January 27th, 2011 @ 1:54 pm by Mrs. Lox

I literally just sat and stared at my screen for five minutes trying to come up with a witty title for this. Obviously, I failed. Moving on.

So awhile ago, Mr. Lox and I drove up to the wedding venue and made what I think were the last of our initial vendor meetings. One was a brand new vendor selection for us. It was time for something I really wanted but had been intimidated to approach…the florist. I had a vision of a beautiful bouquet, and since we’re not having floral centerpieces and we have no bridal party, my bouquet is like our one flower splurge. So we wanted a bouquet for me, a boutonniere for Mr. Lox, and a petal aisle and petals for the centerpieces. (OK, OK, that will make them not entirely non-floral. I see that now.) Because I didn’t know what I was doing, I worked hard on this inspiration board.

All images from Projectwedding, except the following: Center picture from this thread on the Weddingbee Boards, and top row center image is mine

The picture in the center is my dream bouquet. And it meant my heart was entirely set on lovely dark pink peonies. Not the cheapest flower. But the heart wants what it wants. So I took these pictures to the florist, and she agreed that this is not going to be recreated without my beloved peonies. We talked about the bouquet and about Mr. Lox’s bout. And about the aisle and the tables. And after all of that, these are the flowers we’ll be using:

Orange tulips

Orange roses

Yellow freesia

The orange roses were added in addition to the tulips because tulips can’t make a boutonniere, and we wanted to tie the bouquet and the bout together. So Mr. Lox gets an orange rose instead. His bout will also have the yellow freesia.

Now let’s reflect on the bouquet in the middle of that inspiration board just one more time. Basically, my bouquet will look like that. It will be about 65% hot pink peonies, along with orange tulips, orange roses, and the yellow freesia in place of the light green flowers in the picture. There will be little to no greenery. And it will be hand tied with orange ribbon. Our aisle will be lined with pink and orange rose petals, and we will have extra to scatter on the tables as well. I’m so excited now!

Did you find the florist visit intimidating? What happened (or might happen) when you visited your own florist?

I literally just visited with, who I thought would be my florist, last night. It was awful! He just sat there, didn’t know what certain flowers were in his own books, didn’t know what season they were available in, or what color. And everytime I asked if flower a, b, and c would look good together he would say “well you are the bride so it is up to you what you like.” For real?! So needless to say I am on a new florist hunt, which will be taking up my whole weekend!

Ps…I love the hot pink peonies!

Love the pink peony! I can’t wait to see what flowers you are using for reception decor. Can I put a request in for a post about those next? hehe :-P

Waiitttttt a minute! That’s how mine would be but it’s more like blush pink and deep pink peonies with lavender fresias and hypericon berries because I wanted some greenery.

@upstatebroad: I’m sorry your florist didn’t have any idea what to get for you. That sucks. Good luck next time.

Gorgeous! I put off my florist decision a really long time. I met with one (around the corner from my house, so I didn’t even have a long drive keeping from doing it) eventually… 3.5 weeks before the wedding. It worked out, though… my bouquet was gorgeous! Like you, pretty much our only florals were bouquets and bouts - so I wasn’t too worried. :)

The florist was one of my favorite vendors. I knew the colors and feel I wanted to create and she had such great suggestions to make it happen. Definitely a plus to have such great people work with us!
