Ms Cheetah's Picture
Ms. Cheetah, Los Angeles/Palm Springs Age and Occupation: 31, Artist, Educator Fiance's Age and Occupation: 32, TV Finance Engagement Date: April 2010 Wedding Date: March 2011 Venue: The Viceroy About Me: I’m a silly, sassy lady with a compulsion to create. I love to sing and dance, despite the fact that I lack any talent doing either. I somehow manage to be messy and organized at the same time. I like to spend my days road tripping, watching '80s movies, reading true crime books, buying things on sale, sending postcards, playing board games, dining at food trucks, snuggling, and drinking ginger ale. I have a weak spot for all things sweet, especially Mr. Cheetah! I’m a Chicago girl and he’s a Nor Cal boy but we love living in the City of Angels. After 10 years as a couple we are planning a fun-filled semi-destination wedding in Palm Springs. Hope you enjoy the ride!

On Trend

January 28th, 2011 @ 11:35 am by Ms Cheetah

When you read as many wedding blogs and magazines as I do (I know I’m not the only wedding p*rn addict out there), you become pretty aware of all the current wedding trends. I’m not one to blindly follow a trend just to be “in,” but I’m also not one to shy away from a trend just because it’s, well, trendy. So which trends are “in” and which ones are “out” for the Cheetah wedding?

The Photo Booth

Probably out. I love photo booths, I do. I’ve only been to one wedding that had one and it was a ton of fun. But I have no idea where we’d put it and there is the extra cost/project to consider as well. I’m also worried that there would be a line and it would take people off the dance floor. And these Cheetahs want a dance party.

Although this picture makes me second guess our decision…

Colored Bridal Shoes

On Trend : wedding decor palm springs Shoes B

Love these shoes & flowers!

Out. I considered colored shoes to go with my dress, but then decided on some lovely ivory t-straps instead. There will be some brightly hued shoes in the wedding though, the Cheetah girls will be donning bright pink shoes with their awesome grey dresses!

Cupcakes

Nom Nom Nom

In! While wedding cakes can be spectacular, we recently decided that cupcakes are the way to go for our wedding.

Sweets Table

On Trend : wedding decor palm springs Wedding06

It’s already in our colors!

All signs points to in! We still need to discuss this with our DOC and venue, but we’re planning on having some other desserts and candy surrounding the cupcake tower.

Sweetheart Table

On Trend : wedding decor palm springs Sweethe

Table for two

Out. We’re having three long tables at our wedding, and we’ll be smack dab in the middle of it all!

Non-Number Table Numbers

On Trend : wedding decor palm springs 194rea

I adore these!

To be determined. We love the idea of naming the tables after streets in our hometown or buildings at UCSB (where we met at undergrad), but we may just go with simple numbers to make it easy on us and the guests.

Bunting

On Trend : wedding decor palm springs Wedding07

So cute!

No clue. We’ll see where my last minute DIY takes me…

Wedding Signage

On Trend : wedding decor palm springs Wedding08

Will someone please make this for their wedding?

Out. Great idea, but there really isn’t anywhere for it to go in our venue.

Flip Flop Basket

Out. I’m not a flip flop person myself (I hate that thing between my toes), and I figure that plenty of our guests will be staying at the hotel so if their feet are aching, they can just grab another pair of shoes from their room.

Fun Socks

On Trend : wedding decor palm springs Pink Gr

Pink Socks!

Out. I love this trend, but Mr. Cheetah and I decided that the fun sock ultimately didn’t go with the sleek modern look we’re shooting for.

Grooms & Guys in Converse

On Trend : wedding decor palm springs Bel2ba

All Stars

Out. For the same reasons as the socks.

Moustaches

On Trend : wedding decor palm springs Mustach

Fun fake facial hair!

In. But real ones. Hey—my family is from Chicago—my uncles were ahead of the trend on this one.

What wedding trends are you including? Omitting?

We’re omitting a photo booth for the same reasons! And, I also second guess our decision…all too frequently. ;) I’m excited to see your sweets table!

We’re omitting most of them. The only one I know we’re including is having pie in addition to cake, since my FI much prefers pie to cake. I might try to do some sort of guest book alternative (Quaker wedding certificate? Thumbprint tree? Wishing tree?) but I’m not sure.

On point Cheetah - I am only doing 2 of the trends you listed: colored shoes and cupcakes. I would love to have a photobooth and special signage, but venue space owudl not allow it. And although we are not doing fun color socks for all the guys for the same reason as you, I have convinced FI to wear a solid color to stand out a little more as the groom.

I love the photobooth idea but I think it’s dying out. My BFF wanted one 4 years ago when she got married but she opted to not have one. I never been to a wedding that had one, but I wish I did! The only trend that I am going with here is the colored shoes. I’m doing red, that’s my wedding color. And at least I’ll get to wear them again :)

The yellow, black and white sweets table is to die for! So cute!

I absolutely love the organization of this post.

Photobooth is OUT for the same reason you mentioned. It pulls away from the dance floor. I also think it’s somewhat of the new “disposable camera” at table idea.

We are most likely doing pies unless the trend gets too trendy and if so, bundt cakes.

We are donating money to the wateraid.org in honor of our guests so there will be a cute table with personalized water bottles letting them know that their presence is serving a great cause.

Shoes….mostly doing sparkly heels but waiting on pulling the trigger as might taste in style chances all too frequently!

Thanks again for the fun post! :)

I’ve wanted a photobooth at my wedding since the 8th grade and saw it in a magazine (and I’m 32 now so it’s been years) Besides awesome music, it’s the only thing I really want at the reception-whether it’s in or out.

We’ll prob do a sweetheart table, but all the rest look like outs for us. Alas, I’ve seen so many cute pictures from those trends!

I’m suddenly feeling horrifically trendy. But I don’t care cause I love the things we picked. No bunting or sweetheart table for us though. And we might not get cute socks simply because I have searched high and low for the darn things and I can’t find them in the right colors! Very cool post Miss Cheetah.

I love this post! I’m a wedding trend whore, myself, but I refuse to include mustaches on a stick. I just don’t get the appeal! Am I a weirdo??

Oh my god the shoes!!!! The pretty pink shoes! I’d absolutely love those… I’ve followed the link, seems that my size is unavailable, boo! Search goes on…
As for the rest of the list, we are having a fauxtobooth, and cupcakes, but it’s a no on the coloured socks and casual shoes. He just doesn’t get it!

@Miss Panther:

I do not understand the appeal either! I guess they make for cute/funny pictures?

The only trend I am doing is colored shoes. This wasn’t deliberate, I just happened to fall in love with some pink Kate Spade’s and had to have them. :)

Hm, we’re doing a photobooth for sure. Things we’re thinking about but haven’t decided on are sweetheart table, fun socks, Converse, and coloured shoes.

The photo booth is in for me & the awesome picture that you have of the picture frames has inspired me for the backdrop… Thanks! With that said, the mustaches are a must. Super cute.

Also, colored shoes will be my “something blue.”

We considered cupcakes, but the cake is something that’s really important to mr. o. Sock & converse will be a no - military wedding. No flip flops either… it was another thought, but like you said, if they want them they can bring them. :)

Candy buffet is also in, I just love it. We’re fun and crazy. Our main goal of the wedding, like any other celebration that we have is to really include our guests and have a good time … our choices definitely reflect our personalities.

We’re doing the photobooth, blue bridal shoes, cupcakes, purple argyle socks for groomsmen (if I can find them), and a dessert table. Guess I’m also a trend whore!!! But we would’ve done a dessert table whether it’s trendy or not. I’m Greek and FI is Italian, and part of our ethnic wedding traditions include Greek pastries and Italian cookies! So, instant dessert table :)

I love the photobooth, but you make an excellent point with taking away from the dance floor. I have sparkly gold heels, we’re doing a candy table, and maybe a sweetheart table.

We did a sweets table, butit was more of a cookie table, I also did I candy bar for favors, but it was really simple compared to what you see inthe blogs. We did non-number table numbers also. Ours were the names of trees found In the mid-atlantic region. Our theme was fall so that fit. We used a lot of leaves in our decor.

Cute post! I did colored shoes (blue), a photobooth (which spawned mustaches, and lips, and silly hats, you get the idea!), colored socks for the groomsmen, and a sweetheart table.
The photobooth worked out well for us due to the placement - we put it in a nook towards the back of the venue by the older guests. They didn’t do much dancing but loved the photobooth, and our younger guests used it during band breaks - a good compromise!

@thekindbride: Bundt cakes! Yum!
@tink4kali: It’s great that you’re filling your wedding with stuff you love!
@aunt pol: Oh no! Maybe you can find those shoes elsewhere?

Of your list, we’re only doing the sweethearts table. Would love to do the photobooth, but more like your second photo posted we didn’t budget for it so it’s probably out. Thanks for this post! I like reading about wedding trends.
