Those Pretty Things with Petals

January 28th, 2011 @ 2:23 pm by Mrs. Waffle

Heading into this whole wedding affair, I didn’t know much about the amazing and vast array of flowers that exist. I just knew what I liked…hydrangeas and tulips. I’ve even helped arrange bouquets for friends and had no idea what I was pairing with what. They were just pretty.

So, here I am, educating myself across the interwebs about those pretty things with petals and learning how to talk about them with my florist in an educated manner. Luckily, for me, we’re getting married in a garden, so it’s OK for my floral vocabulary to be slightly small.

Without further ado, here are the front runners for the Waffle wedding flowers…

Antique blue hydrangeas (of course)

By far, these are not the ultimate final contenders…just my current favorites.

How are you doing on floral research?

I almost had hydrangeas - I love them so much. But the colors they come in didn’t ultimately match the peacock/teal color of the piping on my dress.
I also knew NOTHING about flowers, but my brilliant florist suggested a bouquet of white sweet peas for me. I never would have thought of it, but it is SO perfect for me and suits the soft feel of the wedding. He didn’t know this, but one of my favorite terms of endearment is “sweetpea,” and I call my friends that all the time. So it really made me feel like he “gets” me. Very comforting.

I have been thinking about using sharmrocks somehow paired with baby’s breath. I’m doing my research and I found out that babys breath in large amounts have a foul “spoiled milk” scent hints the name
