About Mrs. Starfish

Newport Nuptials: Something Old, Something New... : wedding accessories jewelry newport Wedding09 I was really into the meaning behind “something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue.”

Something old is supposed to be continuity of the bride’s past and therefore should be something old belonging to the bride or one of her family members. I chose a three-stringed pearl bracelet of Starfish Mom’s. I wanted to wear something of hers on the wedding day and I’ve always loved this particular bracelet. I didn’t actually think of it until the week before the wedding when I was desperate to find my something old.

Something new represents optimism for the future and represents the new life the bride will share with her husband to be. So I thought the dress was the perfect representation of the “something new.”

Something borrowed represents borrowed happiness and should be an item borrowed from a happily married couple. I decided to borrow Sister Starfish’s pearl earrings. She needed pearls too, so we decided to just switch, since I already have my own. These are shown in the top photo.

Something blue represents love, good fortune and fidelity. I decided to use this area to include my bee pride, and wanted to wear some type of Starfish item to represent my bee status. I found a blue starfish pin and pinned it under my dress.

This isn’t part of my something blue, but Starfish mom also wanted to represent my bee icon and surprised me with starfish hairpins the week of the wedding.

Are you following this tradition? What will/did you used for your “somethings”?

I have 2 “something olds” - one ring from each of my late grandmothers. One is my maternal grandmother’s wedding band, which will be my wedding band as well. The other is from my paternal grandmother and is an art deco style cocktail ring.
My dress, made by a best friend, will be my “something new.”
Don’t know about “borrowed” yet.
“Blue” - my dress will have thin blue piping, and my bouquet will be wrapped in that same fabric.

Very sweet! I got a little too into the rhyme and one of my very sweet bridesmaids located a silver sixpence for me to wear in my shoe. Silly, but it made me happy :)

my something old is an angel pin that my grandmother gave me. she is too ill to travel for the wedding and I will have the pin on my bouquet along with a small photograph of her.

something new is the dress- duh!

something blue is shoes (2 pairs, whoops!), my underwear, and I’m wearing aquamarine earrings and a necklace (since its a march wedding)

my something borrowed is a bracelet from my mom thats been in the family for a few generations.

I have a while but I think I have all of my “somethings” - old is a bracelet of my grandmother’s, new is the dress, borrowed is probably going to be a pair of earrings from my MIL (just have to wait to try them on with the dress/veil to be sure they work), and blue is my shoes =)

Love your somethings! =)
