I was really into the meaning behind “something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue.”
Something old is supposed to be continuity of the bride’s past and therefore should be something old belonging to the bride or one of her family members. I chose a three-stringed pearl bracelet of Starfish Mom’s. I wanted to wear something of hers on the wedding day and I’ve always loved this particular bracelet. I didn’t actually think of it until the week before the wedding when I was desperate to find my something old.
Something new represents optimism for the future and represents the new life the bride will share with her husband to be. So I thought the dress was the perfect representation of the “something new.”

Something borrowed represents borrowed happiness and should be an item borrowed from a happily married couple. I decided to borrow Sister Starfish’s pearl earrings. She needed pearls too, so we decided to just switch, since I already have my own. These are shown in the top photo.
Something blue represents love, good fortune and fidelity. I decided to use this area to include my bee pride, and wanted to wear some type of Starfish item to represent my bee status. I found a blue starfish pin and pinned it under my dress.

This isn’t part of my something blue, but Starfish mom also wanted to represent my bee icon and surprised me with starfish hairpins the week of the wedding.

Are you following this tradition? What will/did you used for your “somethings”?
