What a Whirlwind Life

January 28th, 2011 @ 9:34 am by Mrs. Bacon

Last month was one of the craziest I’ve had so far since we first got engaged: I finally accepted the fact that my dress might not actually be “the one.” That one was right at the top of the list of “Things that will not happen to me during wedding planning.” In my last post, I mentioned that I would be shopping alone to try on my purchased dress. Since then, Mama Bacon and I have put together a plan that doesn’t involve nearly as much lonely suburban shopping. She and FMIL Bacon are both going to come to Chicago, and we are going to do it together.

Having a plan is soooooo helpful!

Even at the beginning, dress shopping was something more or less thrown together at the spur of the moment without much of a plan. Here’s how it went:

Mid June: Engaged! Time to flip through those wedding mags!

Early July: Let’s do some pre-shopping in Chicago! Are you free? Come along! The more the merrier!

Mid July: Running of the Brides! No dress, no glory. :(

Late August: MOH Bacon is going to be in Minnesota? Let’s dress shop some more!

Mid October: Mama Bacon is coming to Chicago! We MUST buy a dress NOW!

Mid January: Not having a plan of attack turns out to be a very bad plan.

I’m a few months delayed, but now we have an “action plan,” as Mr Bacon would put it, and I’m finally seeing clearly. At first I was so upset with my dress that simply mentioning it almost brought me to tears, and watching the wedding shows I usually watch did the same thing. But now, with a plan under my arm, I can finally start focusing on all the other wedding accessories like the shoes and invitations and music!

Did you ever get mid-planning blues? How did you fight them off?

I totally relate. Before dress shopping I SWORE I wouldn’t be a 2 dress bride. It was the one thing that I was adamant about. Well, I bought a dress too soon, and well…. after months of trying to love it and realizing I just don’t, I am on the search again for “the one.” I am still embarrassed that this has happened and I have become that girl.

I’m a 3 dress bride. *blush* I totally understand. I got caught up in the whirlwind of planning. I even ended up with a photographer (who’s great), while caught in the planning vortex. We’ve since cut him loose because we finally realized that we never look at photos. Duh! It seems so obvious now. Oh well. Live and learn.
