Mrs. Jam's Picture
Mrs. Jam, Chicago Age and Occupation: 25, Writer/Associate Wedding Coordinator Fiance's Age and Occupation: 25, Structural Engineer Engagement Date: December 23, 2009 Wedding Date: June 2011 Venue: Hunter’s Ridge, Princeton, IL About Me: I’m a penny-pinching cat lady getting ready to marry the frugal dog lover of my dreams. Our ideal Saturday morning includes rummaging around people’s junk at garage and estate sales followed by an afternoon date to our favorite café, where we only eat sandwiches that include the word “salad.” We actually love it so much, it’s sort of our unofficial wedding theme: Look at our delicious finds, eat homemade ham salad, and celebrate our love…barndance style. When we’re not obsessing over our love-fest shindig, we’re planning themed parties for our best friends and jamming to '90s music.
About Mrs. Jam

Introducing: The Hershey Dynasty.

January 29th, 2011 @ 1:30 pm by Mrs. Jam

We can all agree that a candy bar at a wedding is pretty darn sweet, right? Case in point (and an excuse to shove some more happy wedding inspiration in your faces today!):

Hello, I love you and now I want a peach ring.

Anyhoodle, that’s out of our budget and in a big way, and trust me, because we checked with so many candy distributors and stores my sweet tooth aches just thinking about it. But we did find a way to give guests something extra sweet and delightfully delicious to nom on in between the dinner and all their drinkin’. What could it be, you ask? (If you guessed personalized M&Ms, you are sadly incorrect.)

It’s…our obvious-yet-really-unique favors!

And if you guessed homemade jam packaged to perfection, you’re also sadly incorrect. Although that would be sort of charming considering our moniker…and also considering how heartwrenchingly delightful these look:

Alas, we don’t jar our own preserves. For shame!

But Mr. Jam just so happens to share his last name with a very popular candy bar (yes, it’s even an ingredient in a Blizzard and also happens to be my dear ol’ dad’s favorite). And since I’m taking his last name once we tie the knot, we figured we would treat our guests with OUR VERY OWN CANDY BAR:

Sure, it might not be as cutesy as a full-fledged candy bar, but it will be really special. We’re sort of guessing that the guests will love it, even though Mr. Jam won’t. Because—get this—he does not like his namesake candy bar. He thinks they taste bad. I still can’t wrap my head around that.

Ah well, at least it will be a sentimental cherry to top the day. Oh, and did I mention that they’re so budget friendly, it’s like they fell straight down from God’s hands into ours? We’re buying them all from the Dollar Tree, because they sell them in value-packs for just $1. Another item checked off the list and still within the $10k budget. One day at a time, folks.

What did you choose to do for special favors? Did you spend a whole lot more money on them than you planned?

we did a candy buffet, and it actually wasn’t super expensive! our wedding was located in cincinnati and there’s a bulk candy store downtown (Minges and Son) where we got it all for only $500… and we got a LOT of candy! about as much as there is in the photo you posted. and we collected all the containers at thrift stores and used some vases our venue provided, so i don’t think we spent more than $100 on those. got some cute red striped cellophane baggies and personalized monogram stickers and our guests went to town! it was a hit :) the line for the candy was longer than the line for the bar!

Instead of a full on candy buffet, we did a harvest basket filled with Lindt truffles and a basket filled with Jordan Almonds - it gave guests a choice, and cost $30. I’d be psyched for your personalized candy bar - it’s a really cute idea.

A 10K budget is phenomenal (I would also love to see the budget breakdown - I could really learn a thing or two!!!)

I think your chocolate bar favours are an excellent alternative to a candy buffet! Good luck!

Dying over the guesses, but I’ll give you a hint: It’s not Reese’s, Fruit & Nut OR Milky Way (although I would give my eyetooth to eat any of those right about now, yums)! It’s a real dream come true for a chocoholic like me to share the name of a candy bar!

@Tasha and @Miss lawyer: I will DEFINITELY post our budget breakdown…we’re sticking to our guns when it comes to the $10k mark = not one penny over!

@Misslizzy: Good luck with your budget, it’s not too hard to stick with it if you try : ) And I know what you mean…Mr. Jam is a total nutcase for not loving them. He doesn’t know what he’s missing!

@Miss Bacon: You can if you want, but I’m not gonna be Mrs. Mounds! My future last name is MUCH more delicious than that ;)

How cool that you’ll share a last name with a candy bar! But how unfortunate that Mr. J doesn’t like it………..I like your compromise! Maybe you could just mix in a few of your namesake bars? Mr. J doesn’t have to eat them, right?
