Mrs. Hippo's Picture
Mrs. Hippo, New York City/Dallas, TX Age and Occupation: 34, Event Planner for a Non-Profit Fiance's Age and Occupation: 35, Finance IT Engagement Date: August 8, 2009 Wedding Date: March 2011 Venue: Samuel Lynne Galleries and Marc Events About Me: I’m a thirty-something bride living in New York City and planning a modern-ish wedding in Dallas, Texas. I love trashy reality television (Jersey Shore, anyone?), online shopping, Sunday brunch, Central Park, and random celebrity spottings on the streets of Manhattan. While I love NYC, I miss good Tex-Mex, my college friends, central A/C, and being in close proximity to a Target. I’m thrilled to finally be planning an event that’s not work-related and to be marrying my best friend in what I hope will be a unique and personal ceremony followed by a reception with plenty of good food, good drinks, and dancing (regardless if it’s good or not).
About Mrs. Hippo

More Information = Better

January 31st, 2011 @ 4:03 pm by Mrs. Hippo

I know I’m over the top. You don’t have to tell me this, ’cause I already know. See, I have a hard time separating our wedding from the work events I’ve planned in my life. I realize it’s a very different thing, but there’s something about the detailed and organized process of planning a business conference or large-scale multi-day event that I love and I think is quite effective. When you plan a conference, people need information…lots of information, and I’m using this strategy with our wedding. To me, more info is better, so Hippo wedding attendees will be getting one more piece of mail before the wedding. Enter the RSVP confirmation pamphlet:

More Information = Better : wedding dallas stationery Rsvpbr RSVP+br

When we receive an RSVP card indicating that someone will be attending the wedding, we are sending out this little pamphlet with all the details they could possibly need to know before the big show. Not only does the mailer serve as a confirmation that we actually received the RSVP, but it’s also a back-up should they misplace all the little inserts of information that came inside their invitation.

I’ve included a note saying we’re excited that they are coming as well as reminders about the hotel block and deadline, the timing of the pre-ceremony art gallery viewing, and information about the transportation from the hotel to and from the ceremony and reception, including shuttle departure times.

Sure, the pamphlet might be a little bit of overkill, but I’d rather give folks more information than less, not to mention that I had extra envelopes left over from our save the dates. I think the pamphlet is also a little bit for me and my own piece of mind. I mean, this is the second reminder guests would have gotten about booking hotel rooms. If they don’t do it in time, I’m not gonna feel bad. And this is the second time they’ve been told that the art gallery is going to open 45 minutes before the ceremony. If they get there right when the ceremony starts, I will assume it’s by choice, not ’cause they didn’t know.  I think if I were a guest at a wedding I would appreciate it! But again, I have already admitted that I’m over the top.

Did you send your guests anything between the wedding invitation and the ceremony?

I like this idea! I think that I may do the same thing. Esp. with about 85% of our guests coming from out of town, I think that extra information (even repeated information) is a great idea!

Two Words: Not Overkill.

Seriously, I would love to receive this as a guest. Just to have something to put up on the fridge that serves as a reminder of when to book the hotels and all the numbers you could need.

So much frantic googling and calling the happy couple avoided

I love the pamphlets. I too am one for providing more information over less. With our invitations we sent 3 rather large cards full of information I wanted to make sure the guests got. All the information is also on our website but I wanted to make sure everyone got it. Since then I found these great cards I wanted to send out but couldn’t figure out a way to include them and now you have given me the perfect excuse. We sent our invitations out early do to needing numbers early for other planning reasons and so a little extra reminder will be perfect. Thank you!

Did you have a wedding website as well to go along with this pamphlet?

I love this idea and I think if stamps weren’t so god awefully expensive more brides would consider this.

I smell a long-lasting trend in the making! This is a *fantastic* idea, especially since I know many of our guests won’t even go to our wedding website.

This is fantastic, Hippo! I think as a rule guests absolutely want more info than they get. Not overkill at all!

I think this is great! Because my wedding is a destination, I’m including most of this information in the OOT bags. And the hotel blocks expire 6 weeks before the wedding, so it might be too late to be useful if I sent them another reminder after I got their RSVPs. But I think this is an awesome idea and I’d love to get one myself!

Sometimes I see things on the blog that I think *might* be overkill. I don’t think this is overkill at all—it’s creative, and actually really helpful.
