Mrs. Prairie Dog, Cincinnati
Age and Occupation: 24, Program CoordinatorFiance's Age and Occupation: 25, PhD/Biomedical EngineerEngagement Date: December 18, 2009Wedding Date: May 2011Venue: Glendale LyceumAbout Me: I'm a pilgrim soul of a girl with a house full of books and a coffee addiction that could slay Juan Valdez. My life is a whirl of grammar correction, good music, glue-gunning, and two pets named Hazel and Winston Churchill. I'm marrying my high school boyfriend in a formal-ish spring affair, roughly themed: "Elizabeth Bennet crashes a party co-hosted by Jay Gatsby and Cath Kidston, and loves it."
I love my friends with a ferocity usually contained to lion prides. I’ve been through the best and worst times of my life with an amazing array of people, and there is an instinct in me to protect them from everything— from their snarky coworkers to jealous ex-girlfriends to their own mother-in-laws. They are the people who have carried me through my own hurt, so I can’t stand to see them hurt, you know?
So what would happen if one of them is going to marry the wrong person? Awhile back, an acquaintance of mine was talking to me about a wedding she was dreading the following weekend. It was the wedding of one of her childhood best friends, of a close group of a dozen or so people, and he was marrying his college girlfriend.
…who every single person knew was totally wrong for him.
“They’ll wind up divorced,” she said. The comment was so nonchalant, so certain, that I was rendered speechless. Read more…

Mrs. Husky, DenverAge and Occupation: 26, Systems AdministratorFiance's Age and Occupation: 32, Mechanical Engineer, recently laid offEngagement Date: August 14, 2009Wedding Date: October 2010Venue: Rancho San CarlosAbout Me: I am planning a quirky-crafty wedding with my recently out-of-work fiancé for a (fingers crossed!) warm October afternoon. We are two self-professed nerds with an affinity for all things outdoors---be it rain, snow or shine. Recently relocated from the drizzly Northwest, we're enjoying the many sun-soaked days in the mile high city. Our day will be filled with both of our large families and friends, a self-served Cajun feast, and a Zydeco-style jazz band rocking beneath the beams of a historic red barn.
Big happy sigh. These are some of my favorite photos from the day. I’ve already shared one of them, and now it’s time to show you a few more from our sunset session.
After we finished eating, Mr. Husky led me toward the hills for our “couple” photos. Our window of opportunity was quickly closing, and we were down to the last half-hour of useable daylight. Read more…
Mrs. Zebra, Providence, RIAge and Occupation: 24 Marketing/Costume DesignerFiance's Age and Occupation: 26 Management/Firefighter Engagement Date: December 12, 2008Wedding Date: March 2011Venue: The Providence BiltmoreAbout Me: I'm a small town New England girl with an affinity for procrastination, crossing the proverbial line, and putting her foot in her mouth. I'm a lover of history, all seasons, sewing and Incubus. I design costumes on the side for my old high school's theatre department, which is where I met my sexy man. Our motto for our Big Fat Lebanese/Portuguese/Irish near-300 person wedding is "the more the merrier"! We are marrying in a Catholic ceremony and are hammering out the details of our Victorian-inspired reception.
A little unexpected something or other occurred that’s really kind of, well, a giant pain in the ass. So, in true Zebra fashion, I want you to learn from this mistake, because garsh darnit, changing your email address three months before your wedding sucks ass.
You see, it’s my fault really. I’ve been begging my parents to get accustomed to computers for quite some time now. With the creation of my blog, my mom started to use the internet on her dinosaur of a PC to keep up with my wedding ramblings. Then the telephone calls started… Read more…
Mrs. Eggs Benedict, SeattleAge and Occupation: 29, AttorneyFiance's Age and Occupation: 35, AttorneyEngagement Date: December 5, 2009Wedding Date: February 2011Venue: IslandWoodAbout Me: I'm a Northwest girl who spends my time goofing around with Mr. Eggs Benedict and our dog, hiking, traveling, drinking wine and planning a wedding that will showcase the best of what the Pacific Northwest has to offer. I also love photography, beating Mr. Eggs Bene at Mario Kart, and watching the most ridiculous natural disaster flicks you can think of (seriously, how can you deny the awesomeness that is The Core or 2012?? That's right, you can't). We are planning our weekend wedding adventure at an environmental educational center, and I can't wait for the fun to begin!
There’s nothing like the realization that you’re only 6 months out from the wedding day and that if you want to send out save the dates you need to send them like RIGHT NOW or else really what’s the point because all of your guests will be getting the invitation soon enough anyway. And of course, while we got these babies done and sent out to most of our guest list, there were still some addresses that we didn’t have, which means that not everyone on our guest list actually received one. Sigh. Hopefully we’ll have their addresses by the time the invitations go out. But I do want to share our STDs, and I’m pretty sure that anyone reading this already got one. If not, hey look, here they are! Now, save the date!
I decided that we should use a postcard for two reasons. No, really it was just one. Postcards are cheaper than magnets, and postage would be way cheaper for mailing postcards then to figure out how I wanted to package the magnet and mail it. And this way, people can use all of their other STD magnets to hold up ours on their fridge! Really, it’s a win-win here.
The other reason that I liked the idea of postcards was that I wanted to use two designs. Read more…
Mrs. Cinnamon Bun, Calgary, AlbertaAge and Occupation: 26, Stage ManagerFiance's Age and Occupation: 26, Theatre TechnicianEngagement Date: June 22, 2010Wedding Date: June 2011Venue: Calgary Opera CentreAbout Me: I'm a life-long crafter and bookworm living in the foothills of the Canadian Rockies. Some of my loves include Lord of the Rings, Sherlock Holmes, knitting, opera, musicals, Etsy, baking, and of course, Mr. Cinnamon Buns. We're keeping our wedding close to home---the venue isn't very far from our house, and we live within walking distance of 6 bridal salons. I'm using the wedding as an excuse to try out every craft project I possibly can, with the endless help and support of my fiance.
I pulled out all the wedding stuff from behind the couch the other day (ACK!) and had a bit of an organize. I put out all my cake/pie stands on the coffee table to see what they look like together. I posted about my vintage ones recently; here is what they look like with everything I have!
Mrs. Rainbow, TampaAge and Occupation: 22, Makeup ArtistFiance's Age and Occupation: 25, Electrical Engineer/ProgrammerEngagement Date: November 27, 2008Wedding Date: May 2010Venue: The Gamble PlantationAbout Me: I'm a quirky (and slightly Type-A) freelance makeup artist who was born in Washington State, raised in Alabama, and now living with my one and only in sunny Florida. I'm fashion and beauty obsessed, and have recently discovered my inner domestic diva extraordinaire. I'm a wannabe chef, decorating addict, and trying desperately to be as crafty as possible---albeit only with a glue gun. I'm hopelessly in love with my fiance, and all things sparkly and feathery. Despite the glittery exterior, I'm a total hippie on the inside. When I'm not making up pretty faces, I love doing what I can to help people, animals, and the environment. Someday the FI and I will change the world, but first we're tackling our modern-vintage-Marie-Antoinette-meets-Alice-in-Wonderland inspired wedding. I just can't wait to be Mrs. Rainbow!
On the day of our wedding, Mr. Rainbow and I woke up around 7:30. We both lazed in bed for an hour or so, just smiling at each other like idiots and trying to wrap our minds around the fact that it was finally happening. Today was our wedding day. Crazy.
Against my dear mother’s wishes, we spent the night together on New Year’s Eve, woke up together on New Year’s Day, and got ready together at our apartment. She said it was something about bad luck, but I didn’t care. I was finally marrying the man of my dreams, and according to me, there was no such thing as bad anything.
When 10 o’clock rolled around, I went to my regular nail salon and got a mani/pedi. It may be a little odd to get your nails done on the day of your wedding, but let me tell you, having that relaxing few hours was exactly what I needed for the start of a sure-to-be-hectic day. If you’re having a late afternoon wedding, I highly recommend doing this.
Immediately afterward, we went to the reception restaurant and dropped off the flowers, menus, and cake. By the time we got back home around 1 o’clock, it was officially go time!
Mrs. Bacon, ChicagoAge and Occupation: 26, Digital Advertising ManagerFiance's Age and Occupation: 25, IT Client ServicesEngagement Date: June 17, 2010Wedding Date: September 2011Venue: Ravenswood Billboard FactoryAbout Me: I'm a Midwestern girl that can't seem to commit to staying in one place for too long and is constantly daydreaming about my next adventure. I am an aspiring foodie with a weak spot for the unusual and I love semi-reality food television. My other loves easily include laughing as a form of exercise, a book that I can't put down, summer baseball games, espresso with whipped cream, couch potato days and nights with the ridiculous Mr. Bacon, and our two kitties, Lincoln and Sawyer. We're planning a faux-destination wedding for 150 of our closest friends and family in the city we've both adopted as home that has a modern, yet whimsical twist and as many personal touches as we can manage.
The Bacon engagement wasn’t really a surprise. We had been talking about getting married since 2009. It was really just a matter of me finally accepting that I am “old enough” to be wearing a diamond ring. We’d been talking about it so long that once I decided the time was alright to be engaged, I felt compelled to let Mr. Bacon know that simply discussing getting engaged and actually being engaged are two very different things. In fact, I demanded a proposal. My exact words were something along the lines of, “I don’t want to suddenly be wearing a diamond ring and for everyone to ask me the engagement story and have nothing better to say than ’he didn’t specifically propose, we just decided. ” I was such a brat, but looking back, I’m SO glad I have this story to tell!
I brought up the idea of a possible engagement to Mama Bacon when I was home for someone else’s wedding and tried to slyly ask who the mister should call to get permission. She’s a bit old fashioned, so the idea of a simple phone call permission did not fly. Read more…

Mrs. Taco, San FranciscoAge and Occupation: 29, writer/editorFiance's Age and Occupation: 37, editorEngagement Date: May 13, 2009Wedding Date: August 2010Venue: The Green Room at the War Memorial Veterans BuildingAbout Me: I like laughing and talking with good friends over good food and good drink, be it wine, cocktail, or brew. I write and edit things for fun and profit, but I rarely "write" these days without a keyboard and high-speed internets. Favorites include Mr. Taco, my Boston terrier, San Francisco, getting out of town, and the Roaring ’20s. I was kind-of planning a wedding since roughly 2006, when I discovered "Whose Wedding Is It Anyway?" on the WE channel. I ran and didn't look back with a theme I called "urban vintage," and it culminated in the most magical day a taco could ask for.
We had a photo booth out on the balcony where cocktail hour was held, courtesy of Red Cheese Photo Booth Rentals. It ran for about four hours, starting around when toasts were wrapping up, and it held court at the epicenter of fun for the rest of the event. Some 150 sets of photos were taken, and most guests participated. I gravitate immediately toward these things at bars and events that have them, so my excitement was hard to contain when we nabbed one for wedding day.
The photo booth printed two 4×6 copies per session. Each pic had a custom event banner, modeled after our save the date filmstrip and designed by the same gal. So, we got favors, entertainment, and a still-makes-me-laugh guestbook in one fell swoop. People mostly signed the book as they came in, and we had instructions so people knew why an empty photo album was sitting out there.
Miss Oatmeal, Fresno, CAAge and Occupation: 25, Medical Device Sales RepresentativeFiance's Age and Occupation: 28, Police Officer/Captain in the US ArmyEngagement Date: February 16, 2010Wedding Date: May 2011Venue: Private Residence, FresnoAbout Me: I am a toast-loving, list-making, occasionally crazy California girl getting dangerously close to marrying her crime-fighting, patient, man's man fiancé. I’ve never left our hometown of Clovis, CA, I love Anthropologie so much it almost hurts, appreciate promptness, love that our 4lb. Chihuahua, Murphy, smells like Fritos, am irritated by windshield wipers that move too fast for the amount of rain, love me some cold weather, have an unhealthy obsession with boots, and wholeheartedly think that my family is everything. Mr. Oatmeal is, oddly enough, my brother's best friend. He's also the best thing that's ever happened to me, and together we are planning a vintage chic, backyard, spring wedding with a few nontraditional touches while trying to keep up with our crazy lives.
I was thinking about something the other day when Mama Oatmeal and I were watching Four Weddings on TLC. A bride started crying while saying her vows. That’s not uncommon, but for some reason this was the first time I actually gave some thought to what a problem this is going to be for me.
We’ve thoroughly enjoyed reading real Weddingbee brides’ experiences with their vendors via the Weddingbee Vendors section! A while back, we launched Featured Reviews from the Hive, a new feature that allows you to share your favorite vendors right here on the front page! We’ve loved all of the great vendor reviews coming at us.
Currently, we’re regularly featuring your favorite vendor reviews that you write and submit to us. Every Friday we’ll randomly select a featured reviewer that week to win a prize from our Weddingbee Favors Shop!
Mrs. Panther, Atlanta GA/Westport CTAge and Occupation: 24, Web WriterFiance's Age and Occupation: 25, Music Recording EngineerEngagement Date: March 13, 2010Wedding Date: July 2011Venue: The Inn at LongshoreAbout Me: I'm a total goofball who goes through life at a breakneck pace, trying not to knock anything over. I tend to fall in love with everything I encounter, but more than anything, I love my two little kitties, Bela and Josie, and my big kitty, Mr. Panther! As a wannabe crafter, I'm still waiting for my artistic talents to emerge. (Any day now, really.) In the meantime, I spend my days eating anything put in front of me, buying every pair of shoes I see and absorbing wedding inspiration from every inch of my surroundings. Mr. Panther and I are hardcore New Englanders planning Connecticut nuptials from our new home in the Dirty South, and can't wait to mix our newfound love of classic Southern charm with some modern city touches.
Being stranded at home all week from 5″ of snow (the New Englander in me is HORRIFIED), I’ve been tackling a lot of wedding tasks. I’ve been collecting centerpiece containers for months, and I’d like to kind of finish that up and put it aside. But why, why, WHY can’t I find the footed bowls that I want?!
To be more specific, this is what I’m looking for:
Mrs. Cloud, RichmondAge and Occupation: 25, Sales RepFiance's Age and Occupation: 26, Customer Service Manager/DJEngagement Date: February 14, 2008Wedding Date: November 2009Venue: Cathedral of the Sacred Heart & The Jefferson HotelAbout Me: Mr. Cloud and I are Yankees planning a Southern wedding to show our families from Boston and New York our fabulous city. We are complete opposites, resulting in a wedding to include bridesmaids in pearls and groomsmen in Adidas shell toes. I’m a sorority girl at heart with strong addictions to my blackberry, cherry Chapstick, Coach purses, the Boston Red Sox and our fur baby, Bella. I can’t wait to the throw the party of our lives and of course, marry my best friend!
I guess its about time I share something that I’m pretty sure I have never mentioned before: I knew one hundred percent, absolutely, NOTHING about the music that was going to be played during our wedding reception. Shocking, considering I am fully aware that I have a tendency to be a bit of a control freak. But Mr. Cloud has been DJing as both a hobby and professionally for years so the music aspect of the day was extremely important to him. Then one night, early on in the planning, my type A, always in control of the details self, decided he would be in charge of the music all together with no opinions from me. Then I must have just kept on drinking because then I decided I didn’t want him to tell me anything. Craaaazzy I tell you.
I won’t bore you will the awkward pictures of everyone walking into the main ballroom; let’s just get to the good music. Hubs did not disappoint with his first few quirky picks. First came our parents and the bridal party to The Jacksons’ Can You Feel It.
I was laughing uncontrollably by the time our entrance music came on, Dropkick Murphy’s I’m Shipping Up to Boston.
