Mrs. Lioness, Atlanta
Age and Occupation: 25, Physical Therapist
Fiance's Age and Occupation: 25, Attorney
Engagement Date: August 29, 2009
Wedding Date: April 2011
Venue: Anthony’s Fine Dining
About Me: I’m a Southern girl with New England roots. I say "wicked" and "y’all" in the same sentence and I like to drink sweet tea with my lobster. Mr. Lion and I are both former Floridians now living in Atlanta, which fortunately is still SEC country...Go Gators! We both love baseball, coffee, traveling, cooking, and playing Words with Friends with each other on our iPhones all day long. I’m very passionate about the things and the people I love, and I tend to plan things with all of my heart...our wedding, of course, is no different! Oh, and also Mr. Lion is a first generation American of Cuban descent. I may look more like Lucy than Ricky, but I’m doing my best to incorporate some Latin elements into our vintage-garden-Southern wedding!
Mr. Lion had one request regarding my wedding day look: he wanted my hair down. At first, I was a little skeptical. What if it got in my face? What if it covered up to much of my gown? Would my veil look okay with a down-do? Then, I recalled the feeling I get when I look at my old prom pictures. I had chosen a pretty involved up-do. On some girls, this would look glamorous. On me, I just looked poofy.

An exaggeration, but you get the point.
Most importantly, I just didn’t look like myself.

Mrs. Brooch, Arlington, VA
Age and Occupation: 25, Writer/Editor
Fiance's Age and Occupation: 29, Front Desk Manager
Engagement Date: October 3, 2009
Wedding Date: April 2011
Venue: Oxon Hill Manor
About Me: I’m an indecisive girlie-girl with a motor mouth, can-do attitude, and knack for making others laugh. I dream of becoming a best selling novelist like Elizabeth Gilbert or Julie Powell (a girl can dream, right?), and love long road trips, a beautiful countryside, music, blogs, books, and all things vintage/thrift/antique/or homemade. I’m a Virgo, i.e. overly sensitive, emotional, and critical, and there’s no such thing as short and sweet in my world. I want to say and do it all. Mr. Brooch grounds me. I point where to go and he figures out the way. He’s a pragmatic fancy-pants who enjoys video games and movies. We both adore our mutt, Rocky, and spending time with our amazingly supportive family and friends. We’re planning a garden wedding with a formal reception with lots of whimsy and unique, Southern-inspired details.
Um…what happened to the last two months?
It feels like we went to sleep and woke up 3 months from the big day!

Mrs. Jaguar, Sydney
Age and Occupation: 27, Primary School Teacher
Fiance's Age and Occupation: 29, IT Consultant
Engagement Date: August 8, 2009
Wedding Date: June 2011
Venue: Curzon Hall
About Me: I'm an Australian girl who is a self-proclaimed nerd, loves all things stationery and would be lost without books, music and the internet. Mr. Jaguar and I have been together for the past eight years and he finally popped the question last August. Hurrah! We currently live in Sydney, Australia with our adorable cat who thinks he's a person. We're a couple who likes to multi-task: we've been planning a wedding abroad, a permanent move from London to Sydney, and preparing to build our own home all at the same time. Travelling makes me giddy...as does Mr. Jaguar, of course!
I’ve always been curious when friends have talked about their parents’ weddings. I love seeing what they wore, their traditions, the families that were invited—it’s like taking a step back in time; I love that in thirty years time, our families might be doing the same peek into the past to look at our wedding, too!
In terms of history though, I was pretty lucky: I actually got to attend my parents’ wedding. Say, what? Well, I may not have been there in person or seeing it through my own eyes, but I was definitely a big part of the wedding day—Momma Jaguar was eight months pregnant on her wedding day!
My parents got married very young, upon finding out they were expecting…er, me. My dad was a wee cherub of just 18 and my mum was only 20, so it was quite a low key wedding ceremony. There were no fancy lace gowns or sweeping trains involved, but they still looked super stylish in their wedding duds, and completely adorable. Check them out!

Mrs. Eggs Benedict, Seattle
Age and Occupation: 29, Attorney
Fiance's Age and Occupation: 35, Attorney
Engagement Date: December 5, 2009
Wedding Date: February 2011
Venue: IslandWood
About Me: I'm a Northwest girl who spends my time goofing around with Mr. Eggs Benedict and our dog, hiking, traveling, drinking wine and planning a wedding that will showcase the best of what the Pacific Northwest has to offer. I also love photography, beating Mr. Eggs Bene at Mario Kart, and watching the most ridiculous natural disaster flicks you can think of (seriously, how can you deny the awesomeness that is The Core or 2012?? That's right, you can't). We are planning our weekend wedding adventure at an environmental educational center, and I can't wait for the fun to begin!
Our photographer search was so easy, it’s almost unfair. Awhile back when Kat (AKA Mrs. Cherry Pie) was starting her photography business, I won a free engagement session with her and Justin (AKA Mr. Cherry Pie). This was great for me because I’m pretty sure that this was on Mr. EB’s list of “things one doesn’t really need,” but because it was free he couldn’t really say no. And of course, Kat and Justin were beyond fabulous and took some amazing photos. It was a super easy decision after we saw the pictures to book them for our wedding—especially because they’re going to be photographing our Friday-night welcome dinner as well!
We had such a great time with Kat and Justin taking our engagement photos. It was a super windy day (resulting in lots of random hair pictures), but it didn’t rain! Which is pretty amazing, especially given the weather that the Northwest was experiencing at the time, namely 50-degree days and lots of rain (and a little hail every so often). Makes me remember that no matter when one plans a wedding in this part of the country, there’s always a decent chance for rain!
We started the day at Pike Place Market before we took the ferry over to the Island to take some more pictures in a park and at my parents’ house (with Cody!). Mr. EB and I had a lot of fun—though I felt really uncomfortable at times being in front of the camera. Luckily, it was really only for the first bit that I felt weird, and then all of a sudden it felt totally normal to have two cameras in our faces! Is that how it’s going to feel on our wedding day, too?

Fiance's Age and Occupation: 27, Latin American Policy Analyst
Engagement Date: March 12, 2010
Wedding Date: May 2011
Venue: Casa Punto de Vista
About Me: I’m a perfectionist with a big heart. I love a good laugh and firmly believe no one has ever regretted being prepared! My motto is “go big or go home.” I am incapable of doing anything in moderation, especially when it comes to shopping, TV, food and travel, and some would say wedding planning! The other half of this nearlywed team is a laid-back, adventure-loving, accident prone, sweetie from LA. He makes me laugh, is always down for an impromptu dance party, and totally indulges most of my hare-brained schemes. Now, in my final year of law school, we’ll be spending the spring abroad in Amsterdam and planning a DIY, whimsical, detail-filled destination wedding in Costa Rica!
I recently read another bride’s blog that provided an excellent set of arguments for purchasing a titanium ring for her future hubby instead of gold or platinum. (I can’t seem to find the blog post now, but I swear it exists!!) The point is, it caught my attention because I hadn’t put that much thought into Mr. Pancakes’s ring and had kind of (quite wrongly) assumed there weren’t that many options. The reason I am particularly intrigued by titanium is that it’s a durable, budget-friendly option, and due to Mr. Pancakes’s lifestyle, he really needs something that will both last and that could perhaps be easily replaced. By that I mean Mr. Pancakes loves outdoor activities such as surfing, snowboarding, and rock climbing, and has a history of jewelry-related accidents. To be honest, neither one of us thinks that a $1000 platinum ring would be a wise investment, especially on our tight budget.
So what are the pros and cons of titanium?
Pros:
- Titanium is very light and extremely durable, making it an ideal candidate for wearable jewelry.
- Another pro is the durability; it is virtually indestructible through normal wear. Unlike gold alloys that wear down over years of normal use, titanium will hold strong, showing very little wear over the years.
- Unlike with white gold, there is no upkeep (i.e., re-dipping) necessary.

Fiance's Age and Occupation: 28, Medical Student
Engagement Date: May 2, 2009
Wedding Date: May 2011
Venue: The Royal Park Hotel
About Me: I'm an exuberant gal from the Midwest with a penchant for Neuroscience and anything sparkly. I'm not afraid to poke fun at myself, and I'm a believer that given the right pair of shoes, a girl can conquer the world. While an interest in the sciences threw Mr. Tartlet and me together (again, and again, until it finally stuck), we share a love for many things---food, video games, car dancing, food, bad puns, travel, did I mention food?---that ultimately led us to where we are now, less than five months from becoming Mr. and Mrs. We're planning a laid-back, romantic, garden-inspired affair with organic and quirky touches that reflect our love for the unexpected!
In case you missed it, I let it slip that I tried my first dress on while attending a bridal expo with my bridesmaids. Toward the end of the event, we attended a bridal fashion show where beautiful wedding dresses came out on rather disconsolate-looking models. (Why is that?) Dress after dress went by, but nothing stood out to me. And then, this gorgeous, lacy number came down the runway:

Fiance's Age and Occupation: 24, Music Student Teacher
Engagement Date: October 23, 2008
Wedding Date: May 2011
Venue: Trinity Lutheran Church & Idlewild Country Club
About Me: Coming from the suburbs of the Windy City, you'll often find me with my foot in my mouth while laughing for no reason or telling bad knock knock jokes. I've been crafty for as long as I can remember, and will DIY something twice over before I have someone do it for me. I'm a semi-awkward, typeface obsessed, design junkie and have been know to break out my dance moves for no reason as well as try my best to be ridiculous at all times. My love of pop culture, wordplay, and graph paper almost rivals my love of Mr. Giraffe (who is just the bee's knees). After a 2.5 year engagement, we're planning a modern-in-disguise traditional wedding, and cannot wait!
Firstly, I have to say that you guys were totally right. Let’s Talk About Sex is by Salt ’N’ Pepa, not Madonna. Funny enough though, Madonna has a line in a song where she says she can’t talk about sex. Anyway, sorry about that! Apparently ’80s Trivial Pursuit has taught me nothing! I mean, that game is really hard. I only get the Full House questions right.

Fiance's Age and Occupation: 38, Copywriter
Engagement Date: October 4, 2009
Wedding Date: April 2011
Venue: Sweet ceremony by the sea and sunset celebration on the North Shore of Hawaii
About Me: Born in the city of angels and residing in the city by the bay, I’m a fearless fashion buyer by day, a passionate blog author by night and a dreamy bride-to-be in between. I thank my lucky stars to live in such a stunning city that gives me gifts like organic honey lavender ice cream, movie nights in the park, tucked away beaches, legendary record stores, '80s dance parties, awesome sports teams, stellar flea markets, and vintage bookshops. Oh, and I love to dance! We always find every excuse to escape to the beach, and decided a little seaside wedding in Hawaii is our idea of bliss. Full of our favorite people, music, food and sparkly lights, this is one sunset celebration we will always remember.

Thank goodness for the holidays—I finally had a few precious days to tackle some of our DIY projects, like this beauty here, aka the design for our CD Favors!
I played around with the filters and color levels in Photoshop long enough to be super happy with the cover design. It’s so cute! I was inspired by a record poster and designed my own version with a heart shaped record & a fun chevron background.

Mrs. Barrettes, Tumon, Guam/Napa, CA
Age and Occupation: 29, Dancer
Fiance's Age and Occupation: 31, Licensed Building Contractor
Engagement Date: November 16, 2008
Wedding Date: October 2010
Venue: V. Sattui Winery
About Me: I'm an East Coast girl, living on a tiny little island in the Pacific, twirling, leaping, and shimmy-ing my way through life, and now, wedding planning! I'm equal parts nerdy and cool... okay, mostly nerdy. I love satin bows, red lipstick, black & white graphic anything, the shine of sequins and the sound of a champagne "pop". My favorite books are The Portrait of a Lady, by Henry James, and Tender is the Night, by F. Scott Fitzgerald. I can also conjure a pretty good Patronus Charm. I started my appreciation for good red wine while traveling on the high seas, and it's only fitting that my passion for wine drinking led me to my Napa-bred honey. We bonded over bottles of Cabernet on my oceanfront porch and haven't looked back since. We're sealing the deal at a winery in the Napa Valley on a 'perfect ten' of a day!
I woke up not feeling awesome. Really? On the day of our wedding? I wasn’t feeling like my peppy self after the previous day’s excitement, drama, and subsequent alcohol consumption. Omigod, I thought I was going to puke—thank goodness, false alarm. I was nauseous and dehydrated. While Mr. Barrettes leapt out of bed, all shiny and rested, ready to meet his family for breakfast, I struggled to find my glasses and force a granola bar down my throat to get my motor running.

I was in no state to go anywhere and requested coffee and fruit upon my groom’s return from breakfast. I burrowed under the covers and just lay there with my eyes closed, trying unsuccessfully to go back to sleep. Why did I drink so much yesterday?

Mrs. Lox, Baltimore
Age and Occupation: 33, Government Worker
Fiance's Age and Occupation: 35. IT Consultant
Engagement Date: May 8, 2010
Wedding Date: May 2011
Venue: Vandiver Inn
About Me: I’m an East Coast gal born and bred and a suburban brat turned city rat for the last year. Now Mr. Lox and I enjoy walking all kinds of places, having the coolest things around in our backyard, and especially our garage parking. I love gadgets, toys, Ben & Jerry’s Chubby Hubby ice cream, monkeys, and our insane cats. I’m a blonde by birth and a redhead by choice. I’m that girl in the cubicle farm with all the cool toys and the file cabinet covered in magnetic poetry. I still use smiley faces in my emails, whether people like it or not. This is not the first rodeo for Mr. Lox nor me. And together, we are planning an intimate afternoon wedding on a budget we can afford by ourselves.
I blame Miss Cardigan for what I am about to tell you. Oh yes, so suggestible am I that she has imprinted a single image in my head. An image that cannot be shaken. Now I am only seeing cute little paper balls.
Mr. Lox finds this amusing. He came home from a late night at the office to me making faces and exclaiming “Look at these!” Well, I mean look at them…

I mean, seriously, who could resist? Apparently not Mr. Lox.

Mrs. Pashmina, NYC/Catalina Island, CA
Age and Occupation: 28, Arts Education
Fiance's Age and Occupation: 34, IT Administrator
Engagement Date: April 26th, 2009
Wedding Date: July 2010
Venue: Catalina Country Club, Catalina Island, California
About Me: I'm a laid-back Cali girl who moved to NYC for school, and ended up staying for love. My fiance is a quick-witted Jersey boy, a self-proclaimed Foodie and the funniest man I've ever met. Together we love exploring the city streets embarking on our next misadventure---and yes, this often involves eating off food carts and trying "the next big thing". I'm the girl in the sundress, snapping photos and collecting trinkets of memorabilia along the way. As a girly girl at heart, I am excited about our romantic natural island wedding incorporating our American & Filipino traditions.
As a East Coast transplant I am always torn between spending holidays here with my hubby or seeing my family on the West Coast. Of course I want to spend these special occasions with my best friend and husband…but I get one or two days off on top of my hard-to-come-by vacation days this time of year. It is the most perfect time to go!

So every year for the six years I have been with Mr. Pashmina I have gone back home to be with my family for Thanksgiving and Christmas. I’ve always tried to feel out Mr. P to see if he would mind my departure or if he was getting tiresome of me always going away.

Mrs. Pretzel, Seattle
Age and Occupation: 32 Learning, Training, and Development Specialist
Fiance's Age and Occupation: 28 Manufacturing Engineer
Engagement Date: September 2, 2009
Wedding Date: July 2010
Venue: Catholic Church & The Engine Room at Georgetown Studios
About Me: I’m just a thirty-something girl who never dreamed of weddings, poofy dresses, or ritzy receptions. I am a rabid knitter, except recently, wedding projects have replaced my yarn and needles. I’ve been fiercely independent since the age of 2 and 30 years later I think my family and friends had given up on me settling down and getting married.
Ironically, I had to go all the way to Seattle to find a boy from Purdue. We fell in love over Seattle Beers and cooking together. I love NASCAR, he loves Legos. I can talk like a Muppet and he can fit a whole McDonald’s cheeseburger in his mouth. We are a two reception couple, currently planning a brewery inspired bash.
It’s a new year! I can’t think of a better way to start it off than to get crackin’ on recapping the amazing adventure Mr P and I had immediately following our wedding. The weeks before and after our wedding were the most beautiful we had this summer. We were so glad that we decided not to venture far and honeymooned in British Columbia.
After collapsing for exhaustion the night before we had to wake up early.

We bid adieu to our awesomely hip room at Hotel Max and rushed out our Nirvana clad door.

Fiance's Age and Occupation: 35, Finance IT
Engagement Date: August 8, 2009
Wedding Date: March 2011
Venue: Samuel Lynne Galleries and Marc Events
About Me: I’m a thirty-something bride living in New York City and planning a modern-ish wedding in Dallas, Texas. I love trashy reality television (Jersey Shore, anyone?), online shopping, Sunday brunch, Central Park, and random celebrity spottings on the streets of Manhattan. While I love NYC, I miss good Tex-Mex, my college friends, central A/C, and being in close proximity to a Target. I’m thrilled to finally be planning an event that’s not work-related and to be marrying my best friend in what I hope will be a unique and personal ceremony followed by a reception with plenty of good food, good drinks, and dancing (regardless if it’s good or not).
I’m so glad that we’ve made it past all the holidays. Don’t get me wrong, I’m a big fan of Christmas and New Year’s, but I am so glad to have all the sweets out of the office and to not be the only person on a mission to get in shape. Bring on 2011 resolutions!
I mentioned my workout calendar before, and I’m happy to report that it’s really helping me stay on track. Let’s take a look-see, shall we? Here’s how I did in December:
