Mrs. Jaguar, Sydney Age and Occupation: 27, Primary School Teacher Fiance's Age and Occupation: 29, IT Consultant Engagement Date: August 8, 2009 Wedding Date: June 2011 Venue: Curzon Hall About Me: I'm an Australian girl who is a self-proclaimed nerd, loves all things stationery and would be lost without books, music and the internet. Mr. Jaguar and I have been together for the past eight years and he finally popped the question last August. Hurrah! We currently live in Sydney, Australia with our adorable cat who thinks he's a person. We're a couple who likes to multi-task: we've been planning a wedding abroad, a permanent move from London to Sydney, and preparing to build our own home all at the same time. Travelling makes me giddy...as does Mr. Jaguar, of course!

Bridesmaid Budgets: Outfits & Gifts

January 27th, 2011 @ 11:39 am by Mrs. Jaguar

If there’s one thing I love doing, it’s shopping for other people. I’m that girl who has all of her birthdays planned out in advance, who has her Christmas gifts over and done with by October…it’s just how I roll. So when it came to finding the perfect gifts for my girls, I was really looking forward to searching for that special something for them.

Before I get into that though, I thought I would share how I’ve worked out money & ‘necessities’ for my bridesmaids—and how we worked out who is paying for what.

First off: their outfits. I was fairly honest about what they would be paying for when I asked them initially—and I verified many, many times to make sure they were okay with purchasing their own dresses. All three of them were just fine with that. I had a budget in mind that I didn’t want to go over, and they agreed: however the ultimate dress decision was completely up to them. It’s great that we found something that all three liked nice and early.

I also love photography, beating Mr. Eggs Bene at Mario Kart, and watching the most ridiculous natural disaster flicks you can think of (seriously, how can you deny the awesomeness that is The Core or 2012?? That's right, you can't). We are planning our weekend wedding adventure at an environmental educational center, and I can't wait for the fun to begin!

Be Our Guest!

January 27th, 2011 @ 11:15 am by Mrs. Eggs Benedict

I’ve been thinking a lot about our guests lately. Since we’re having a semi- destination wedding for a lot of people and it’s a weekend shindig, a lot of our guests are going to be staying at the property for a night or two. There are four different lodges on the property, and part of my job is to figure out where people will be staying. Because it isn’t just a hotel with plenty of available rooms, I really want to get the room assignments figured out just right so that as many guests as possible can stay on the property and not have to worry about driving home after the wedding. But while I was working on this, I started thinking about what I would want if I were a guest at our wedding.

I am an aspiring foodie with a weak spot for the unusual and I love semi-reality food television. My other loves easily include laughing as a form of exercise, a book that I can't put down, summer baseball games, espresso with whipped cream, couch potato days and nights with the ridiculous Mr. Bacon, and our two kitties, Lincoln and Sawyer. We're planning a faux-destination wedding for 150 of our closest friends and family in the city we've both adopted as home that has a modern, yet whimsical twist and as many personal touches as we can manage.

We love it so much it only took us 12 hours after we got engaged to decide to have a destination wedding. We are working our little Meerkat tails off planning a rustic-chic, travel themed destination wedding in the Riviera Maya with a semi-formal, vintage-turned-modern, outdoor at home reception back here in Michigan.

Reserved with Love

January 27th, 2011 @ 10:07 am by Mrs. Meerkat

One of the last minute projects I had to finish before we left for Mexico was reserved seating signs for the ceremony. We needed to mark the front two benches at the ceremony for our families. When I started researching different sign types, the only examples I could find were ones that were for chairs.

Not real useful for those of us using benches. Of course, we could just lay them out on the benches like the example below, but I was really afraid that the wind on the beach would blow them away.

Green-Eyed Monsters

January 27th, 2011 @ 8:08 am by Mrs. Lox

I look at wedding things every day. I look at what vendors on Etsy are selling. I look at what people on message boards are discussing. I look at what other brides are planning. I look at pictures of other couples’ wedding days. I look for inspiration. I look for ideas. I look because it’s all so easy to find.

I thought I had a complex about some things because I’m spending less money, or I’m less creative, or I didn’t get the hippest photographer. I thought I was a unique little snowflake of a bride with my insecurities. I’m guessing someone reading this feels the same way.

So here’s what I want to tell you today. It doesn’t come with inspiration photos or pithy post titles. Sorry about that. I’ll do better after this, I promise. I have wedding envy. Of basically all of you. I am just a covetous little bride. I see your pictures and hear your ideas, and I’m convinced that our centerpieces aren’t cool enough, my shoes aren’t bright enough, and my hair flower isn’t big enough. I’m sure our napkins will be folded wrong and our cake will ultimately look silly. Every once in awhile, I wonder if anyone will ever be able to see what I meant them to see when this is all executed, or if it will look like a weird mishmash thrown together by a crazy woman.

I have wedding envy. And I bet you do too.

Sattui Winery About Me: I'm an East Coast girl, living on a tiny little island in the Pacific, twirling, leaping, and shimmy-ing my way through life, and now, wedding planning! I'm equal parts nerdy and cool... okay, mostly nerdy. I love satin bows, red lipstick, black & white graphic anything, the shine of sequins and the sound of a champagne "pop". My favorite books are The Portrait of a Lady, by Henry James, and Tender is the Night, by F. Scott Fitzgerald. I can also conjure a pretty good Patronus Charm. I started my appreciation for good red wine while traveling on the high seas, and it's only fitting that my passion for wine drinking led me to my Napa-bred honey. We bonded over bottles of Cabernet on my oceanfront porch and haven't looked back since. We're sealing the deal at a winery in the Napa Valley on a 'perfect ten' of a day!

Food-tastic!

January 26th, 2011 @ 6:41 pm by Mrs. Cinnamon Bun

So I haven’t talked about our caterer or our food plans yet! I hear you yelling, “You’ve only got 5 months, Miss Cinnamon Bun, better get on that!”

Not to worry, we’re on it. We actually started meeting with and interviewing caterers in September.

Cinnamon Buns suggested the caterer that does all the opening nights at the theatre he works at, and I said, “Yeah, sure,” then went on to do all this research on all these caterers, and didn’t contact our work contact. When we started getting quotes back with heart attack-inducing figures ($6000+ for 65 people? And that doesn’t include booze?!) and fancy menu items like “Quail Egg with crisp lardons of prosciutto [sic], savory basil pesto & wild hibiscus crowns” I got scared off and ignored the whole thing for a while.

Food-tastic! : wedding calgary food 5351352 california_quail

(I don’t want to eat this! Or its eggs!)

Then we did it Cinnamon Buns’ way.

On Getting a Head Start

January 26th, 2011 @ 6:17 pm by Miss Oatmeal

Speaking of name changing, I never really touched on what a process it’s going to be. So I decided I’d get a little head start. No, I’m not going to start going by my new name…do you think I’m crazy? I did, however, “reserve” my new e-mail address on Gmail. And by reserve, I clearly mean that I just registered for a new one.

What?

I was afraid it would get taken by someone else between now and May.

Hive, do you remember the card box I had started, but hadn’t finished? Probably not, because I had started it even before you had seen it, way back during the summer. It then sat in my basement for…ummmm…a few months until I started to freak out about our deadline—oops, I mean timeline. While Daddy G, Mama Giraffe, and Sis Gee yelled at the Bears/Packers game behind me, I decided to get things done!

So, are you finally ready for the finished product? I’m sure you’ve all been dying for the final result. ;)
