I am an aspiring foodie with a weak spot for the unusual and I love semi-reality food television. My other loves easily include laughing as a form of exercise, a book that I can't put down, summer baseball games, espresso with whipped cream, couch potato days and nights with the ridiculous Mr. Bacon, and our two kitties, Lincoln and Sawyer. We're planning a faux-destination wedding for 150 of our closest friends and family in the city we've both adopted as home that has a modern, yet whimsical twist and as many personal touches as we can manage.
About Mrs. Bacon

The Overachiever Bride

February 1st, 2011 @ 1:00 pm by Mrs. Bacon

I’m not totally type A. I’m not as impressive as Miss Lox with a wedding-dress-shopping spreadsheet, but I am definitely an overachiever. It’s not because I’m “Miss Punctual” (hahaha, anyone that’s ever made an appointment with me is laughing their booty off right now) or “Miss Organized” (Mama Bacon is laughing because she remembers my room growing up), but it’s all because I’m “Miss Most-Popular-Date-of-2011.” That’s right. We have a super popular date: September 10, 2011, AKA 9.10.11. (Please don’t stalk me and crash my wedding, kthx.)

You see, we picked the date because it’s our four-year anniversary and the day before Mr. Bacon’s birthday; the fact that it’s oh so easy to remember was just a bonus. So we picked it, I started telling peeps that we wanted that date, and then we went venue shopping. As I mentioned in my venue-search post, eight of the venues we called were already booked for 15 months away, so once we had a place to have this shindig, I went into hyper mode for the rest of the vendors. We picked a DJ, DOC, photographer, filmographer (is that even a word??), baker, and a dress within three months, or almost a year from the wedding. Wedding to-do lists had nothing on me…erm, us.

It’s no surprise, then, that we also were overachievers at sending out our STDs (hehehe, Miss Lox) since we wanted to make sure that we had “dibs” on our guests, just in case there were other people they knew planning a wedding for the same day. The best part is that we were able to sit back and enjoy the holidays without a whole lot of wedding stuff to fuss about because we were so far ahead of schedule!

Was anyone else ahead of schedule for wedding planning, or am I a total Stepford bride?

I just have a ginormous heap of DIY projects, but other than that I am way ahead of the game too. The spring part of the season at work is always way hectic and full of overtime so, even though it goes against the natural procrastinator in me, I got the big stuff tackled early. :)

Hooray! You are so efficient! I don’t think I’ve ever been ahead of schedule, for anything…sigh. I accept my limitations.

You already know I’m a crazy control freak about booking things. ;) If it makes you feel better, I had to FORCE MYSELF not to send out our STDs (*giggle*) earlier. It was a 3 month long battle, but I won! ;)

You are not alone Miss Bacon! Although my over achievedness doesn’t come from a popular date, it comes from me being slightly OCD in my organizational status (you couldn’t tell from my room either). My fiance and I had already booked our Venue, Caterer, Photographer and DJ as well as sent out our STDs before the holidays. My future brother in law (also getting married on your date!) thought we were crazy for having so much done already (our wedding isn’t till the end of October).

HEY! We’re date twins! I’ve got my Venue, Caterer, DJ, Photographer, STDs are out, invites are sitting in my online cart ready for me to check out once I get the right wording down, Flowers are being arranged by my future father-in-law’s girlfriend, Cake is being made my our groomsman’s mother, I’m going to Filene’s basement in NYC next month and if I don’t find my dress there I have one at David’s that I want. Table numbers are printed and I have lovely frames to put them in. Escort cards are sitting in Excel waiting for seating assignments (obviously I’m not doing that now)

I really want to do everything NOW since summer is usually pretty full for us. I think I’m pretty far ahead of the game. I look forward to following your blog!!

I am a 9.10.11 bride as well! Didn’t get engaged until this December so in that first month or two I got the venue, photographer, std, my dress, bridesmaid dresses. Getting closer on the food and band! Wish I was as far along as you!

I got married on 12.11.10 & definitely had to be an overachiever! And just breaking it down into what to do each weekend - but still making time for life to happen - it made planning the smaller stuff much easier! Good luck!

My friend is getting married 2 months before me and I have accomplished more than she has. We have just over 6 months to go and the venue, dress, bridesmaid dresses, tuxes, save the dates, ceremony order, dj, photographer, videographer, and cake are all taken care of.

You aren’t alone.

haha, FI keeps insisting to people that I am going to have our entire wedding planned by July (our date is October 1) - I tell him he’s crazy because he still doesn’t contemplate how much there is to do, but I’m definitely super type-A and trying to get stuff done “ahead of schedule”!

I sent my Save The Dates out almost a year in advance and I didn’t even have the excuse of a popular date, I just really wanted to send them…Whoooops!

I booked the venue a week after getting engaged because it was their last summer 2011 date! I was then quick to book my photographer and DOC because I wanted to have options so I started researching early and then once my mind was made up I didn’t want to lose them. We sent out STDs 10 months out and although I felt it may have been a bit early I am so happy we did now that 2 different friends have told us they were invited to 3+ weddings in July!

i’m very ahead of schedule. I am 8.5 months out and I have had everything done (with the exception of making a few things) for months. It’s good because I have plenty of time but it’s bad because I have now designed my 15th invitation design! haha.

Finallly someone who understands what I’m going through! We’re getting married on 11/11/11 and ran into the same problems. We have 9 months to go and I’m pretty much done!

At the rate we’re going, we could probably have our wedding a full year earlier if we had the money (and the date). Oh well.. it’ll just leave me less to do later :)

If you are a stepford bride, so am I. My wedding is 4/21/12, I already have a dress, a lot of my decor, a venue, my bridal party picked out, and most of my candy buffet done. This is the biggest day of our lives as why shouldnt we be excited and plan plan plan, (as long as we dont turn into bridezillas along the way)

We had most of our vendors booked more than a year in advance. ;) I was preparing to defend my thesis, and knew everything wedding was going on the back burner until that was finished! It was a total relief to have it out of the way, but as we’re scheduling final meetings I find myself going “hi - remember me?” Whoops!

*raises hand*

We booked our venue, planner and photographer 20-22 months in advance. I’m like Miss Tartlet sending out remember me emails.
