Mrs. Brooch's Picture
Mrs. Brooch, Arlington, VA Age and Occupation: 25, Writer/Editor Fiance's Age and Occupation: 29, Front Desk Manager Engagement Date: October 3, 2009 Wedding Date: April 2011 Venue: Oxon Hill Manor About Me: I’m an indecisive girlie-girl with a motor mouth, can-do attitude, and knack for making others laugh. I dream of becoming a best selling novelist like Elizabeth Gilbert or Julie Powell (a girl can dream, right?), and love long road trips, a beautiful countryside, music, blogs, books, and all things vintage/thrift/antique/or homemade. I’m a Virgo, i.e. overly sensitive, emotional, and critical, and there’s no such thing as short and sweet in my world. I want to say and do it all. Mr. Brooch grounds me. I point where to go and he figures out the way. He’s a pragmatic fancy-pants who enjoys video games and movies. We both adore our mutt, Rocky, and spending time with our amazingly supportive family and friends. We’re planning a garden wedding with a formal reception with lots of whimsy and unique, Southern-inspired details.
About Mrs. Brooch

I’m taking a break from discussing our journey to finding the perfect invitations to announce an exciting project checked off of our to do list! Remember those old dusty frames we got for really cheap? Well, we finally had our way with them!

Check out the before and after:

I’m in love these frames and in love with the idea of using them as our centerpieces! If you have no idea what I’m talking about, check out our table mock-up. We’re planning to place these in the center of our tables with milk glass vases on them; but first, we had to clean them up!

We started by laying them all out on our strip of fabric. I didn’t have a lot because I bought it on sale months ago (and had no idea what we’d use it for), and checked to make sure we would have enough. We had just the right amount! Whew!

Mr. B pulled the backs off each of the frames and Mama Brooch started cleaning them. If you saw where we got them, you’d understand why a good wipe down was in order!

Then we took the picture from inside the frame, laid it on the fabric, and cut a covering. We did all of this on an ironing board because we ironed the fabric, too.

Once the fabric was ready, we laid the picture down on newspaper and got ready to apply our adhesive!

We sprayed the adhesive right onto the picture, waited about 30 seconds, and attached the fabric. The circular frames were a bit of a challenge, but the square ones were easy peasy!

We were so proud of ourselves, you guys!

This was a big project and we had finally tackled it (we had fabric to spare, too)!

It wasn’t until our planner came to visit that we realized something was missing—cohesiveness. She pointed out that the frames were all different shapes and therefore needed to be the same color. She suggested that we either spray paint them all gold or paint them all white!

We were so nervous at first! We had just enough frames and knew once we started painting, there was no turning back! I’ll admit, I was a little stressed over the whole thing, but Mama Brooch came to the rescue. She painted them one day while I was at work and I about fell over when I got home, ’cause THEY’RE BEAUTIFUL!

The whole idea seemed like a gamble in the beginning, but they turned out better than I could have ever imagined! I absolutely cannot wait to see it all come together on our wedding day!

great minds think alike! I have almost all of my milk glass collected and 4 frames. I am looking for 8×10 or similar with intricate design. I am finding mostly golds and silvers. I was thinking of doing them all in white but now I think I might just go with the metalic and add a few small vintage looking picture frames into the cluster. Yours look great! I’m assuming that you spray painted? I’m also thinking I might make mine all antiquish silver. Love what you did!

They look amazing! My fiance and I are doing the exact same look for our centerpieces. We have collected a ton of milk glass and other vintage trinkets like glass birds and perfume bottles etc. Still working on the frames however. If you are interested in selling the frames after your wedding I would be extremely interested in the entire lot! Message me if you are! Our date is 9.10.11 so there would be plenty of time to make a transaction ; ) Again, beautiful job!

Awesome transformation of the frames!!! I would never look at those and think to do that!!! Great Idea!! I just tackled making canvas bags for my girls! Well, modifying them actually–we’re in the midst of a 20inch snowstorm in the midwest so I’ve been knocking out DIY projects!
