I love gadgets, toys, Ben & Jerry’s Chubby Hubby ice cream, monkeys, and our insane cats. I’m a blonde by birth and a redhead by choice. This is not the first rodeo for Mr. Lox nor me. And together, we are planning an intimate afternoon wedding on a budget we can afford by ourselves.
About Mrs. Lox

I Need a Hobby

February 1st, 2011 @ 2:54 pm by Mrs. Lox

We’ve been talking about attire for a while now. Are you tired of it yet? Yeah, me too. So let’s talk about something else. Let’s talk about hobbies!

What do hobbies have to do with wedding planning? Gosh, I’m so glad you asked me that. As I’ve said in the past, I am not a crafty person. Never have been. But with wedding planning, I have developed a sudden urge to make stuff. Some of it is to save money, but a lot of it is to make this day our own. While there are still a whole lot of things we will buy, I feel like the craft projects I’m taking on are making this day more personal to us. And I like that. So I guess it’s my thing now.

It’s also a lovely excuse to learn all about something I’ve always been curious about: scrapbooking.

Paper crafts have proved to be my new favorite thing, so scrapbooking is a natural progression for me. And since I’m really quite clueless, I’ve done what any clueless crafting wannabe does. That’s right, folks. I’m taking a scrapbooking class!

I swear, this is wedding related. See, I’m starting off with a vacation scrapbook. But after I learn more, I’m going to apply my newfound knowledge to scrapbooking the wedding and maybe even the honeymoon. And then I have this idea about a guestbook, but that’s a post for another day.

In the meantime, want to see my first layout?

Don’t laugh—it’s my first try. Here, let me distract you. Instead of mocking me, how about telling me if your wedding has inspired other projects in your own life?

My wedding has inspired me to find a hobby that has NOTHING to do with my wedding. Right now my hobbies consist of - playing on Weddingbee, looking for DIY inspiration, and creating said DIY projects.

Once the wedding is over, I am looking forward to finding a NEW hobby. My current post wedding goal - take up rock climbing :)

I cut out the phrases and illustrations from all the cards I received from wedding events and used them throughout my wedding scrapbook instead of using store bought embellishments. I liked being able to keep the cards and giving them a second chance!

I’m the same way with the sudden urge to create stuff! I can’t wait to live under the same roof as Mr. B, and get to obsess about house (vs. wedding) projects then!

@Tennessee2Carolina: I’m a graphics design moron so I’m pretty sure me and digital design would not be friends. I bet your pages look great though!

@MissMeg: See, I’m uncoordinated and out of shape. Hence the paper crafts. ;)

@kaybee: That is an awesome idea! I’ll have to remember that. :)

@Miss Brooch: Heh, I dream of obsessing about a house! Our lease lasts through the end of the year. ;)

I have respect for you Lox. I do not have the patience to scrapbook, but I wish I did!

Oooh I’m curious to know what your guestbook idea is! I’m planning on laying out scrapbook pages, having guests write notes and well-wishes, and then adding on photobooth pictures from the wedding on each guest’s page. I’m worried it’ll be a hassle (who wants more work after the wedding), but I love the idea of using photobooth pics for something as well as having a guestbook I’ll actually flip through later.

Lady, you ARE crafty! Your scrapbook is looking great so far. I’ve totally always wanted to scrapbook, but aside from being a hobby I’m a freaking procrastinator. You can totally carry over your scrapbooking skills into an amazing guestbook. Can’t wait to see what you’re made of!

My fiance actually bought me a bunch of scrapbooking supplies for Christmas. He saw how many things I was DIYing for the wedding and thought I would have fun documenting our journey through scrapbook.
