Mrs. Lox's Picture
Mrs. Lox, Baltimore Age and Occupation: 33, Government Worker Fiance's Age and Occupation: 35. IT Consultant Engagement Date: May 8, 2010 Wedding Date: May 2011 Venue: Vandiver Inn About Me: I’m an East Coast gal born and bred and a suburban brat turned city rat for the last year. Now Mr. Lox and I enjoy walking all kinds of places, having the coolest things around in our backyard, and especially our garage parking. I love gadgets, toys, Ben & Jerry’s Chubby Hubby ice cream, monkeys, and our insane cats. I’m a blonde by birth and a redhead by choice. I’m that girl in the cubicle farm with all the cool toys and the file cabinet covered in magnetic poetry. I still use smiley faces in my emails, whether people like it or not. This is not the first rodeo for Mr. Lox nor me. And together, we are planning an intimate afternoon wedding on a budget we can afford by ourselves.
About Mrs. Lox

Say Cheese!

February 2nd, 2011 @ 10:14 am by Mrs. Lox

I have something to tell you. I want a photobooth. Like for reals. WANT. But let me tell you something else. Our tiny wedding budget is exhausted. I have stretched it to its conceivable limits, and those darn photobooths are expensive! Some of the quotes I got made me whimper and clutch at my chest. As I was getting quotes during working hours (clearly while I was on break) my co-workers were starting to wonder about me. So I had to stop pricing photobooths. But I never let go of the dream.

The day I saw this post on Weddingbee, I knew there was a higher power. Or, at least, a far more resourceful person than me who was willing to let me gank her ideas. You know, close enough. I promptly introduced Mr. Lox to the concept of a fauxtobooth. And he seems willing to indulge me. Hooray!

I know some people have successfully used Mac software to implement this and print out pictures on the spot. Clearly this is a close proximity to the real thing. I know other people have rigged up digital cameras and printers. That is also a good alternative. I also know I’m not going to be able to make either of those fly. So here is my grand idea. We will use Mr. Lox’s tripod and my digital camera. I will save all of the pictures and then upload them to our photo-sharing website after the fact. That way people can download them for free later. Oh yes, and I can get prints. Hopefully prints like some of these:

Say Cheese! : wedding baltimore Lox1 lox1

Look how happy they are. And I love the props. (source)

Say Cheese! : wedding baltimore Lox2 lox2

(Recognize this fauxtobooth? Mrs. Cola will!) I am so hoping all of our guests get into the spirit. I’m imagining Mr. Lox’s parents looking something like this. (source)

Say Cheese! : wedding baltimore Lox3 lox3

(How about this one? I bet P Chips will!) I can totally see my high school friends looking like this. And I so hope I do! (source)

I swear to you, in addition to talking about my planned wedding projects, this is leading up to the promised guestbook idea. I’m thinking you all see it clearly now. If not, you will in my next post. Because I’m evil like that.

Did you or are you having a photobooth at your reception? Are you renting one or DIYing it?

We’re rigging up our digital camera, too. I feel really silly now, though, because I never even considered putting it up on our website. That’s genius! :)

I think I might even like the Faux-to-booth better. I’ve been to a wedding with an actual photobooth, don’t get me wrong, it was great but I think that having the ability to have more than a few people in the “booth” will be awesome. Not to mention, I LOVE the props! YAY!

I’m doing a photo booth as well! I love the idea and can really see some interesting pictures happening late into the night. :) My wedding is not until April 2012, but I have already started to buy a few “props”. I found oversize plastic sunglasses at the local dollar store. They also had lei’s and feather boas. I was also thinking about using a colorful printed bed sheet for the background. Our venue will not let us hang anything to the walls. I was thinking of just hanging the sheet over a clothes rack. Does anyone else have any ideas?

I love photo booths at receptions! We did ones at both mine and my sisters showers, I wanted it at the wedding, but thought it would be overkill.

@jo.lee @thefuturemrs.o @amyisnice: I’m so glad I’m feeling the love for the fauxtobooths. I’m excited that we can find a way to fit this into our little budget!

@FutureMrs.G: We’re following these instructions from Mrs. Pin Cushion… http://www.weddingbee.com/2010/08/23/build-your-own-photo-booth/

I love the DIY photobooths! My advice is to get some sandbags to place around the feet of each of legs of the tripod. (or rent one of those industrial tripods) It makes it MUCH more sturdy and save from guests getting tipsy/overeager. :D

Just so you know if you want them to be able to take their own pictures without using the self-timer, depending on your digital camera you can get a wireless remote for cheap. I got one on amazon for around $10. I’m doing the same thing at my wedding and figured the wireless remote would help things be a little easier for the guests.

I’m renting one as a surprise for FI! I just sent the deposit off today and am more excited about that than anything else in the wedding :)

I’ve been toying with the idea of a photobooth for years! (long engagements leave you with too much time on your hands to drool over fancy stuff!)

I hope you guys figure out the logistics and have a blast with it! :)

Our photography package has two photographers, so we’re getting one of them to hang around the photobooth for the reception. We’re going to DIY something for the backdrop, and raid work for props!

Love the idea! Our photographer offered up photobooth type option that we signed up for. My dad is going to build us a prop wall…think live theater type. It will have cut outs framed with picture frames for people to strike a pose behind the wall, plus they can pose in front of the wall. And of course, what would a prop wall be without props?!? Good luck to you and I would take BeautifulKatastrofie’s suggestion and get a wireless remote. Our photographers have for their camera too so guests can operate the booth when they are away taking other pictures.

I really want a photobooth, but idk if there is one that will be able to come to our area (we’re getting married in a small town about an hr from any big city). I love the idea of making one ourselves but we’ll see if that happens!

I wanted a photo booth as well but because we are paying for the wedding ourselves, it is not in the cards.
Check out Sparkbooth - it is this rad software that turns your laptop (with a webcam) into a photo booth. I’m not sure how the printing aspect works out but I think we may set up a website with all the pictures. It’s fairly inexpensive (maybe $70?)…WAY less than the photo booths in our area.

We need to stop doing this. I legit just wrote a post about photo booths entitled “Say Cheeeeese.” (I have since renamed it so I don’t seem like a total weirdo copy cat.) Love that you’re DIYing your booth! Can’t wait to see which kind of backdrop you choose!

Definitely DIYing a fauxtobooth. I like the idea better because more people can fit in. The more the merrier!

I’m glad so many people are using our photobooth instructions to make their own!! If anyone (readers or Lox!!) has any questions about our backdrop set up, message me!! I have an etsy shop where I sell them too, if anyone doesn’t want to DIY it!! Good luck, all!
