Remember the shoe issues I was having? Well, I finally found some shoes and—surprise!—they’re not any of the ones I had originally looked at! While browsing for purple shoes on my favorite free-shipping site, I found these:

Um…yes please! Purple shoes with a blue undertone, something I never thought I’d find! At first, I simply admired them. Unfortunately, Badgley Mischkas often run a bit too narrow for my fat slightly wide feet. I know this because of a very disappointing day at Nordstrom Rack in Baltimore. While casually walking through the shoe aisle, I spotted a lovely ivory colored pair from BM. I was very excited to try them on because the price was right and they were super cute even though the shoe was a half size too large for me. Well, when I tried to stick one of them on, my foot couldn’t even fit in it.
After that, I swore off Badgley Mischka due to their discrimination of fat feet. I may have even switched the channel if I saw them on TV, because I’m mature.
Because of the original debacle, I didn’t have very high hopes for these shoes, but I figured I could always return them if they didn’t work out. Since there were mixed reviews on the fit, I erred on the side of caution and went a half size up. This size happened to only have three left, so I checked out faster than I think I ever have while online shopping.
One day later, they came in. Thank you, super fast Zappos shipping! And let me tell you, they were one classy shoe. I’ve never spent $200 on ANY shoe (except for my leather boots and ski boots), and I was subsequently very impressed with the packaging:
Once I opened the box and got over the fact that the shoes came with a DUST BAG (I have an obsession with dust bags), I checked out the pump itself. The color was PERFECT. It wasn’t an exact match to my bridemaids’ dresses, but it was close enough that our photographer could probably tweak the hue a bit if there’s a discrepancy in pictures.
Toby wanted in the picture, too.
Tres classy cardboard shape holders
Extra padding in the platform!
Then the moment of truth came. I made a silent wish that the shoes would be large enough for my fat feet, took a deep breath, and went for it. And…the shoe was large enough! Actually, it was too large. I went into a bit of denial about it…maybe I could still wear them, maybe they would work out. I eventually realized that if I did wear them I’d probably trip, and that I was just being too lazy to return them. They were the only pair of heels I’d ever been able to wear comfortably—there’s this extra pad thing sitting in the platform—and I think I was nervous that for some unknown reason a size smaller would not be as comfortable. Sigh. I am so illogical.
So I said a quick au revoir to my shoes and decided that I would buy them in the correct size in a month, after my credit card recovered from Christmas (and aforementioned ski boots I bought for myself).
But I just couldn’t say goodbye to those shoes. I kept searching for more reviews or a cheaper price on the internet, because I’m crazy. On one of my extensive searches, I found them on endless. They were also listed for $200, but for some reason the website was having a 30% off sale! I quickly did the math in my head…30% was $60, and my shoes would be an awesome $140! I had to buy them, sick credit card or no. A few days later, they were in my possession and fit MUCH better. Though they’re still not the perfect size, they will work just fine.
How did you find your shoes? Were they the first pair you tried on, or did you have to make a more extensive search?
