Mrs. Brooch, Arlington, VA Age and Occupation: 25, Writer/Editor Fiance's Age and Occupation: 29, Front Desk Manager Engagement Date: October 3, 2009 Wedding Date: April 2011 Venue: Oxon Hill Manor About Me: I’m an indecisive girlie-girl with a motor mouth, can-do attitude, and knack for making others laugh. I dream of becoming a best selling novelist like Elizabeth Gilbert or Julie Powell (a girl can dream, right?), and love long road trips, a beautiful countryside, music, blogs, books, and all things vintage/thrift/antique/or homemade. I’m a Virgo, i.e. overly sensitive, emotional, and critical, and there’s no such thing as short and sweet in my world. I want to say and do it all. Mr. Brooch grounds me. I point where to go and he figures out the way. He’s a pragmatic fancy-pants who enjoys video games and movies. We both adore our mutt, Rocky, and spending time with our amazingly supportive family and friends. We’re planning a garden wedding with a formal reception with lots of whimsy and unique, Southern-inspired details.

What Should Our Welcome Sign Say?

February 2nd, 2011 @ 3:14 pm by Mrs. Brooch

Remember my obsession with chalkboards? Well, I finally got around to making one for us! Not just any one, but the main one! It’s pretty much the first thing our guests will see when they approach Oxon Hill Manor:

Obviously it can’t be blank. We need to figure out what it should say!

One thing to keep in mind is that we need to direct guests to the garden. It can’t just say “Welcome,” because guests might walk right past it into our venue and not turn left to go to the garden where our ceremony will be! The picture below is the entrance to our venue. Imagine the sign set up there.

Do you think any of these options will work?

In your comment, use the color of the box to vote your favorite!

OR tell me if you like any of these better:

  • “Welcome to Our Garden Wedding! Ceremony This Way”
  • “Two Lives Become One Over There”
  • “Our Story Begins There”
  • “Garden Ceremony This Way”
  • Mr. B said we should just put “Welcome! Ceremony This Way.”

OR, please suggest one!

Do you have welcome signs for your ceremony? What do they say?

I’m a big sucker for “Our story begins here” with an arrow.

@hmaxwell77: “our” not “one”. Ooops!

Honestly if you want it to be clear to your guests than the first one in pink is probably the best bet. Could you put a second sign closer to the ceremony that says “our story begins here”? I think that is super cute!

We had a sign that said ” Happily Ever After Starts Here” with an arrow pointing to the ceremony space, it worked really well and everyone loved it.

I like “Welcome to Our Garden Wedding! Ceremony This Way” the best. It’s both welcoming and informative!

While I think the “Our Story Begins Here” one is cute, I think the first pink one is the most direct, and will ensure that your guests get to where they need to be, so I would go with that one.

It’s hard to tell with the font you used, but I think you have a typo - the word is “Nuptials,” not “Nuptuals.” I also like “Our story begins here” like others suggested above, it sounds so romantic!

I love the “Our story begins here” or “Happily Ever After Starts Here” but if you want to be clearer, perhaps “Mr & Mrs Brooch’s story begins here” or similar.

Can’t wait to see it finished though! :)

I’m leaning toward something more straightforward, like the first pink one. I don’t think you want to leave any room for guests to misinterpret things or not understand where to go.

I vote for “our story begins here”, or simply:

I don’t think you need “this way” written out in words if you have an arrow. If it says something like

Welcome to our wedding!
Ceremony

People will figure it out. :)
