Pennant banners were one of those projects that looked really easy, but ’twas not the case for moi! I had great intentions starting out, but fell short miserably not once, but twice. I almost gave up on having a banner and I would have been justified in doing so, but I gave it one last go-around, and finally, success (or at least something I can live with)!
Remember the horror?
Stage One:

My tips for others trying to complete this project:
Chose the right card stock - The paper you see in the photo above was REALLY cheap and I had tons of it, which I thought would work to my advantage (as many pennants as we wanted)! However, I didn’t realize our banner would look more like something made for Nascar than a garden wedding!

Figure out the letters first - this was another issue and it was the problem that got me not just on my first attempt, but second, too. After sharing this DIY disaster with you guys, I went home and attempted to create the letters in a new, fancier way. I used my Cricut, and the letters looked awesome. I thickened up the ribbon per your suggestions and holding this pennant in hand, I thought I’d done it. I’d finally done it!
I hung it up, took a few steps back, and realized there was yet another problem.
The lettering was way too light and it was hardly legible.

Stage Two:

We were warmer. It definitely looked a lot more like what I envisioned.
Don’t run out of supplies - It wasn’t just the fact that you couldn’t see the letters, I also ran out of card stock. I only had enough for the banner to read “Sweet End” instead of “Sweet Endings.”
Back to the drawing board ladies and gents!

Stage two wasn’t a complete wash, though. I did realize how much I loved thick ribbon.
It made a world of a difference!

Stage Three:
With the cardstock, the ribbon, and the letters all figured out, success was mine at last!
Ta da!!

I tried drawing an outline around my white letters, but that didn’t work. Finally, I turned to Martha Stewart for some good old-fashioned block letters! Mama Brooch cut out each one:
Meanwhile, I thread the ribbon through our pennants (yet again):
Then we adhered the letters to the pennants with a glue stick:
And finally, the beloved banner I had been dreaming about came to life:
Here’s a look at the banner in action as a part of our DIY dessert bar (in the making)!

Are you making any pennant banners for your wedding? What will they say?
