The Long-Awaited Guestbook Idea

February 3rd, 2011 @ 8:43 am by Mrs. Lox

Let’s finally get back to that guestbook idea I’ve been promising.

The bottom line with the faux-to booth is that I can’t figure out a way to print on the spot. So there will be no fun favors for my guests, and they will not be able to affix their faces to a giant book and write next to it. That was admittedly the original desire. But, you know, the rental thing didn’t fit in the budget, so we are changing the plan to match our pocketbooks. And the new plan involves no photo printing and no giant book. So far we just have this:

The booth setup we have already discussed. A la Mrs. Pin Cushion. (source)

So, I bet you’re kind of wondering what it does entail? Well, OK. I’ve been stalling on purpose because I imagined this myself and I’m praying it is not stupid. I mean, it doesn’t seem stupid. But maybe it is, you know? Right, I’m stalling again.

So in addition to having their pictures taken, I will have a table near the faux-to booth with blank slips of paper and something to place them in. I envision paper in different sizes and different shapes, and with different kinds of edges. Then people will write on the paper as if it were a guestbook and deposit their signed messages into whatever receptacle I have there. (I’d add a picture here, but I have no clue what I’ll go for yet. A jar? A basket? A box? Something I haven’t yet envisioned? You have an idea?)

Yes, I recognize the *book* part is still missing. I’m about to tie it all together. After the wedding I will get prints of all of the faux-to booth pictures. I will then pair them up with the signed messages. Then, wait for it, I will make a scrapbook (my new hobby is so totally wedding related!) of all of them combined. And we will have said scrapbook forever and ever. Hooray!

Since you’ve suffered through my insecurity and my probably not terrifically original idea (although I totally thought of it by myself), I offer you a gratuitous picture of my latest scrapbook layout. Because, as we have so definitively determined, it is sooooo wedding related.

I am in love with these pages. And can you see the pictures in there? Want to guess what they are? I promise it’s a pretty easy one.

So is this idea totally stupid? It’s really OK to tell me if it is. Really.

I was thinking of something similar…but less work. I was thinking photos onto digital camera (no printing available on the spot, we will print later). Then everyone writes in 1 column of a 2 column guestbook (we will need to have clear instructions to leave the other column free). Then FI and I print the pics and attach the ones we like next to where the person wrote in the book (where we had them leave 1 column free).

You should not be insecure! This is a fantastic idea, and I think I will be stealing it! :)
I was trying to think of a way to incorporate the faux-to booth into a guestbook also, and this is a fbulous idea! I have not tried scrapbooking yet so it should be interesting to try this out before I actually put it into play. Let me know how everything goes because my wedding isn’t until September 2012 and I would love to see some examples!!

We are doing something VERY VERY similar, and there is software out there that will automatically print your pics!!! Seemonkey lets you hook up your laptop to a printer and a camera–if you search online, you will also see how others have utilized a push button or a separate screen and keyboard so that guests don’t have to actually touch their laptop

http://www.seemonkey.net/

The other option out there is SparkBooth. This one is similar to SeeMonkey (but much cheaper and the demo is a lot better). The downfall is that you can only utilize a webcam. We’ve tried faking out the computer to think that a regular camera is a webcam, but no such luck…this demo actually lets you print your pics, and the webcam on my computer actually doesn’t take horrible pics.

There are also FREE software out there, but none of them worked as well as the above did when we demo’d them!!

BEST OF LUCK =)

I think this is a great idea! It’ll help fill up all that time you’re going to have one the stress of wedding planning is over, too!

This is a great idea! I know I would stress trying to get a printer to function properly during the wedding, but this allows you to have a fun and heartfelt guestbook. And you get to use your new scrapbooking skills!

Not a bad idea at all. But check out the Polaroid website. They have a new version of the instant “shake it like a polarid picture” camera. For my guestbook I’m getting one and stocking up on lots of the film. I’m on the lookout for coupons (apparently Target carries the camera/film.) I mean polaroid isn’t for everyone (quality can suck), but I love the old school feel of it.

I am doing something very similar. I am having my 2nd photographer take the pictures. Then I will mail a copy of my guests picture with their Thank You note! Then I will have copies to put in my scrapbook! I love it!

Guestbook scrapbooks are AWESOME!!! I am a fellow scrapbooker (and will forever be working on our wedding album!)…here’s the thread where I posted my guestbook…it is never ending though - as, again, I’m CONSTANTLY making pages for my guest book to add to! :D

we’re doing a digital camera photo/fauxtobooth setup, too. and i’m sooo not dealing with printing pictures on the spot, but we will have a wireless remote so people can take their own pics, instead of needing someone to man the camera. we plan to take everyone’s best/funniest pics and include them in their thank you notes after the wedding, and also create a flikr account where guests can view all the photobooth pics and add/share their own personal digital pics they take at the wedding!

@ simplifiedbride. - how do you set up the camera with a button so guests can take their own pictures?

For what it’s worth, after I wrote this, Mr. Lox came clean with the fact that his digital camera has not only a backup battery but also a remote. We are totally using it for both of those reasons. :)

@JNWhite: we’re using a wireless remote. it looks like a tv remote, and was about $10 from best buy. you just click it, and it sends a signal to the camera to take the pic, but i think you have to have a DSLR.
