There Will Be Steel Drums!

February 4th, 2011 @ 6:30 pm by Mrs. Elephant

The surprise for my dad will happen!!

Back in December I talked about my issues with an unresponsive vendor who we were going to use to surprise my dad on the wedding day. I still have not heard back from him but it doesn’t matter because we found and booked another steel drummer!

There Will Be Steel Drums! : wedding dallas music Dsc0608 DSC0608

My personal drum purchased on our trip to Trinidad & Tobago

Honestly, this has been more stress than any of our other vendors and I was so ready to throw in the towel. The only thing that kept me going was the mental picture of my dad on that day; I cannot wait to see his face!!

Did you have any drama with booking a vendor? Did you plan any part of your wedding day as a surprise for someone else?

Ms E I know your father will be shocked, amazed and so proud that you have incorporated a small piece of his culture in your wedding ceremony. The look of pride in his face when he hears that sweet sweet music will be priceless. Love ya for thinking of him.

My FFIL is from Trinidad, we actually have a small steel drum at home but this is a super cute idea for a gift!

Yay! I’m glad it went okay. I’m having a really hard time with my string quartet and the lady doing my invitations. God, some vendors :(

Oh how cool! I am super-psyched for you guys. I secretly wish we were planning a beach wedding just so I could have steel drums!!

Are you doing videography - would love to hear the drums in your recap posts (really planning ahead, I know!)

@Miss Pain au Chocolat: That we are!! I’m happy because I’ll probably miss hearing most of the songs, but will get to hear it back in the video.

They are call steel pans to be accurate. I love the sound they make.

That is fabulous! The only problem I had at my wedding was the wedding coordinator… drama! All of the other vendors were on top of it.

That’s so cool. I’m actually a professional steel pan player in Missouri, even got my Masters degree in it!

That will be so awesome! I’m having trouble with a videographer, but it’s my own fault for dragging my heels.

So cool! I’m glad that worked out for you. One of the featured couples on my site also had a steel pan band play at their wedding reception and it was fab. Check it out:

Yay! So excited for you! We’re having steel drums at our cocktail hour as well - my fiance is from Trinidad, and lots of his family will be coming up from there! Funny though, the first vendor we contacted was very slow to reply, so we found another, much like you! Good luck!!

@hulahoop: That is so weird, but I’m glad you got one!! We just found out there are another 4 people from T&T coming to the wedding, so I really can’t wait for them all to enjoy it!

OMG, I had issues with a few photographers when trying to book. The thing I’m going to surprise my honey and his momma with is a guy that can play the Bagpipes before and after the ceremony outside when guests come and go! I can’t wait because he LOVES the bagpipes, as do I!
